Treknomania,a tropical wandering disease that is currently infesting people in the Nigeria, like Ebola, is becoming of serious concern to psychologists, health workers and social commentators a like.
The disease Which is mainly caused by unemployment resulting in idleness,anxiety and loss of confidence in one's self, in it early signs causes the patient to delusively believe that a high ranking politician like Buhari, Jonathan, Tinubu or others is the solution to his or her problems.
Because of anxiety and stress which the disease inflicts on the victim, an abnormal level of adrenaline is released in the body system of the victim. This causes the victim to begin to imagine that he can do some extraneous and extra physical activities like trekking for days, weeks or even months and in some cases actually undertakes the trekking.
The risks associated with this disease could be worrisome as the victim may undertake physical activities that over rate his or her ability.The person may not access medical treatment in case of any health crisis in the course of the trek.
Also the person may be vulnerable to attacks including rape by armed robbers, rape gangs and bushmen. The disturbing implication is that some of these victims believe that they can take infants along in the trek.
Due to ignorance some Nigerians applaud the victims currently. An act synonymous with the applause given to newly mad person, when the public thinks the hilarious display is in order and genuine, until it is seen that the person is really mad and then is confined to psychiatry.
The best way help to the victim is to administer psycho therapy on the victim. Let him or her know that no singular person has the solution to all his or her problems.That he or she can meaningfully engage in some productive venture and be occupied, other than trekking from Lagos to Abuja, Abuja to Otuoke, Yola to Abuja, Abuja to Owerri etc.
