African Peer Review Rates Johnathan Administration Low by Akbee(m): 9:28pm On May 16, 2015 |
The African Peer Review Mechanism said on Saturday that the 2011-2015 development plan initiated by the President Goodluck Jonathan administration had failed to improve the nation’s economy and the well- being of Nigerians. The five-year development plan specifically focused on three key areas, Strong, inclusive and non-inflationary growth; Employment generation and poverty alleviation, and Value re- orientation of the citizenry. But the APRM, in a statement in Abuja, said, “While the plan looked good on paper, it has not succeeded in producing significant improvement. Indeed, corruption has worsened over the past five years.” The APRM was inaugurated on 9 March 2003 by African leaders within the context of their initiative – the New Partnership for Africa’s Development – as an instrument for self-monitoring for good governance in all its ramifications. The body has, at its fulcrum, the deepening of democratic and development practices and covers four themes: Democracy and Good Political Governance, Economic Governance and Management, Corporate Governance and Socio-Economic Development. In a statement jointly signed by its Chairman, National Steering Committee of the Second Peer Review of Nigeria, Senator Ken Nnamani and Senior Fellow, Centre for Democracy and Development, Dr. Jibrin Ibrahim, the APRM described the country as “having a paradox of extreme riches as well as mass poverty.” It added that stakeholders, mainly from the third tier of government in both private and the public sectors across the country, agreed after the exercise in Abuja on Friday that inspite of its abundant rich natural resources, the country’s over-reliance on its rich oil resource base has had an adverse effect on its economy. It noted that the development had resulted in the neglect of other sectors, leading to high levels of corruption, poverty, high unemployment rates, poor infrastructure, low growth rates, and widespread insecurity and crime. The validation meeting emphasised that it was imperative that Nigeria consolidates its efforts towards diversification of the economy to reduce the impact of external shocks, and encourage private sector-led development. Jonathan tried his best, he should take credit for that. The poor performance during his tenure was as a result of opposition both from those in his cabinet and those outside his cabinet. 1 Like |

Ending the fertilizer scam, building some silly almajiri schools, relocating more FG tertiary institutions to the north and other silly things gej did to the north won't be compared with the kinda damages boko haram did to them.. Some call him Mr clueless, some do refer to him as a democrat while others qualify him with the adjective corrupt. Personally,i think he was the most unfortunate man to lead Nigeria. He( Johnathan)performed to the best of his ability. He was the most criticised n insulted. However,he was able to touch many lives positively. Posterity shall tell. Those who think Mr Johnathan was the least qualified to govern Nigeria shall one day speak good of him. 1 Like |

missclasssy:In politics, there would ALWAYS be opposition within and outside one's cabinet so that can NEVER be put forward as an excuse for failure. If one fails it is simply because they were incompetent, period. Let Jonathan take the blame for his own failure for once. And you people should stop spreading the blames around. 1 Like |

omenka:well people have their different definition of "best". What might be best to you might equally be the worst to another person. I think you are trying to decorate(beautify) incompetence with your own definition of "best". Failure is failure, incompetence is incompetence. No matter how we try to decorate them, the will still remain what the are. |

missclasssy:I beg to disagree. Jonathan's poor performance is attributable to his own leadership incapacity. Simply put, he lacks even the most basic leadership abilities and that's why he failed. Not everyone is meant to be a leader, especially in a complex nation like Nigeria. This is not an insult but just the plain fact. No doubt he tried his best, but his best was absolutely insufficient. |
Re: African Peer Review Rates Johnathan Administration Low by obailala(m): 11:54pm On May 16, 2015 |
Akbee:Jonathan lacked the most basic leadership qualities, except maybe for his humility which enabled him win the admiration and sympathy of many even in the wake of his glaring shortcomings. His endearing nature blinded, still blinds and will continue to blind the eyes of very many from seeing his shortcomings. Obviously he tried his best but his best was just too insufficient. Not everyone is meant to be a leader, especially for a complex country like Nigeria. GEJ didnt just have it in him. By the way, Jonathan was the most criticised and insulted for 2 reasons; 1. He continuously committed too many unthinkable gaffes 2. He presided over Nigeria at a time of social media boom when information spreads fast and everyone can contribute in the discussions. I'm sure if it was during the time of OBJ we had this present boom in social media, OBJ would have been the most cursed and hated president on the planet. 3 Likes |

No real surprise here. You don't need a report read to you before you know the impact of his leadership wasn't felt by the masses. I don't envy the people that feel the need to defend GEJ, that's a tough assignment. Imagine saying he failed because of his cabinet, cabinet he appointed and oversaw. I'm not sure people know what the role of a leader is. |
Re: African Peer Review Rates Johnathan Administration Low by socialmediaman: 8:47am On May 17, 2015 |
missclasssy: His best was not good enough, and please stop blaming opposition, there's a reason someone is called "A good leader". If he failed, he failed, there's no democratic government without opposition and there's no government without insider moles. If they end up deceiving you to do the wrong things, then bye bye from thinking you did your best. This is politics, if you can't play it, sit in your home and don't come convincing Nigerians that you can, and if you try and fail, accept your failure and move on, don't try to blame anyone... |
Re: African Peer Review Rates Johnathan Administration Low by mrmetoo1: 8:51am On May 17, 2015 |
obailala: I'm sure you were just going along the line of the other person's arguments but when people say he's the most criticized and insulted president in the world, it's very hilarious to me because it's so far from the truth. As a matter of fact, Nigerians are very forgiving. The criticism Obama goes through on a daily basis is enough for anyone to jump off a bridge. You have right-wing tv stations, print media, radio stations, blogs, social media platforms that are dedicated to insulting/criticizing him. You have people being paid millions per year to pick holes in whatever he's doing no matter how good it is, people whose job it is to put their spin on issues to convince folks that Obama is no good. Now this doesn't mean he's free from criticism from those in center and the left-wing media. I want to imagine it's similar in the UK and many other countries. |
Re: African Peer Review Rates Johnathan Administration Low by socialmediaman: 8:55am On May 17, 2015 |
I just want you to understand that there's no single government in the world, even the most demonized governments like North Korea, that have not touched some lives positively. If that's the basis of qualifying him as a hero, then that's totally wrong. While he touched some lives positively, his bad decisions and unpatriotic actions and inactions destroyed or negatively impacted on many other lives. Numbers don't lie, the election results indicate he didn't touch many lives in Nigeria even with the huge inflows we received from oil sales. If he touched yours, thank God, but for the sake of the majority of Nigerians, don't be unpatriotic to wish him on Nigerians who continue to suffer because of his poor leadership. Just wish him goodbye and pray for better leadership for this country Akbee: |

Re: African Peer Review Rates Johnathan Administration Low by Gbawe: 10:03am On May 17, 2015 |
Akbee: Of course. Many fuel subsidy scammers are filthy rich today because of GEJ. Many corrupt miscreants are private jet owners now thanks to the 'gangster paradise' GEJ created. Can we forget that, in a nation with a functional armed forces, GEJ made militant warlords and militia leaders very rich through granting them security contract and government patronage those sort of people have no business hankering for in sane nations? Yes indeed Jonathan touched lives positively but it was the wrong sort of lives. He did zilch for the average Nigerian. In fact he abandoned them totally, by leaving them to starve and die, and this is why he is reviled universally by those who know what true leadership entails to include even his peers i.e other leaders. The truth is that Jonathan, more than any other President in Nigeria's history, let ordinary Nigerians down the most. Nothing typified this more than how he allowed more than 15,000.00 Nigerians to be butchered over 5 years while pretending his hands were tied and he could do nothing to fight terrorism robustly. Yet when election loss starred him in the face, and his political empire was about to come crashing down, Jonathan cynically postponed elections and ordered the army to mount a considerable assault against Boko Haram 6 weeks to new election dates when all polls had indicated he would lose the originally scheduled election. Is it then not clear, through this development, that Nigerian lives mean nothing to Jonathan? If that is not inhuman callousness and wickedness then I don't know what is. Even today, Nigeria is totally bankrupt because of how him and his heartless crooks looted our treasury, in time when oil price was high, now leaving Nigeria a nation that needs loans to pay workers !!! I could go on all day but the bottom line is that no one will ever remember Jonathan fondly except those who benefited from his corrupt and amoral leadership plus those who love revisionism and prefer hiding from reality and the truth which is that GEJ largely brought pain, poverty and deaths to ordinary Nigerians. 1 Like 1 Share |
