He has tried, if you know what obtains in our schools today. I bet you there are university students who can't define "herbicide", or write as good as this JSS student. He has an inkling of what it means, and that's good. All that's needed is some direction, and he'll be fine.

Let me add this funny story.

I once taught in a secondary school. I gave out a classwork on making a sentence. One of the words is "stone", and a students, whose name (Ojugbana?) I'll never forget gave her answer as, "I am greeting a stone."

I had to mark her right, because grammatically the sentence structure is correct. But later I called her and explain why I marked her right and enjoined she should be greeting people not stones.
