It is very fortunate that Brigadier Oluwole Rotimi had to write what he been alleged to have written. When majority of Nigerians yearn for unity and continuous existence of the colonial contraption called Nigeria, I tend to cringe in my consciousness.

Brigadier Oluwole Rotimi is not an ordinary Nigerian. The man is one of the few Nigerians who joined the military as a degree holder. He never commanded any combatant unit during the civil war because he came from the educational corp.

It took long time for nemesis to catch up with him as person who is filled with ethnic bias. He constituted one of the reasons that led to killing of Brigadier Samuel Ademulugun who was also staunch tribal irredentist. With the assistance Rotimi and Shodinide, Brig. Ademulugun ran 1st Brigade as a Yoruba cantonment. I still wonder how he escaped the coup of January 15, 1966 while Ademulugun and Shodinide did not.

The remove of Gen Oluwole Rotimi was ethnics motivated and he owns no one an apology.

You can take your Nigeria. the reason would be link to thier desire to replace him by Mr Ojo with an Igboman or Yar adua with a northerner.

First of all Gen Oluwole Rotimi is a man of honour. And he does not deserve the disgrace Yar adua government is given him.

He has more honour than even this people who are out to disgrace him. What he said about the biafra army is true. Even Ojukwu would agree he was not prepared for the war. he as said nothing wrong. I think they should offer him apology within the next 48 hrs. or else. We would start posting fraud commited by this same people against him.

He is an old man and you can not disgrace him and you people did not know that before you offer him the appointment.

And if he was upset to say that, you know chief Ojo would have done something really bad.? So what did chief Ojo do? that made Gen Oluwole Rotimi upset?

Nigeria's Ambassador to US fired?-The Inside Story
Sunday, 15 February 2009 17:03 Saharareporters, New York
The recently announced "sack" of Nigeria's ambassador to the US, General Oluwole Rotimi (Rtd) has revealed deep divisions in the team of Nigeria's Supreme Court-imposed president, Umaru Yar'adua. The ambassador, who spoke to Saharareporters briefly about his ordeal, said he is yet to receive any letter of sack from Yar'adua, contrary to a report by Thisday newspaper.

When SaharaReporters reached Nigeria's Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ojo Maduekwe, he also refused to speak about the reported sack of the ambassador. Throughout an intense question and answer with Saharareporters, he maintained he was away from Abuja and attending a burial. He directed our reporters to call "the headquarters in Abuja" to find out what is happening.

Diplomatic sources told Saharareporters that Maduekwe was pushing the sack of the ambassador and might have used newspaper reports to pressurize Yar'adua to act upon the decision to sack Oluwole, since it was taking too long. The minister, according to our sources, had reported the Ambassador to Yar'Adua during the swearing-in–ceremony of President Atta Mills in Accra.

Maduekwe reportedly made available to Yar'Adua a letter allegedly written by General Rotimi and circulated widely within the Minister's close-knit circle, including former president Olusegun Obasanjo. In it, the ambassador allegedly claimed to have defeated the Biafran Army while he was "Adjutant –General" in the Nigerian Army, but General Rotimi denies ever writing such a letter.

He told Saharareporters that he was never an "Adjutant General" in the Nigerian Army but a "Quarter-Master-General". Standing his ground, he asked the media to ensure that whomever made the allegation substantiates it. He claimed that as an old man, he has friends across Nigeria and could not afford to put such a divisive statement in a letter to the minister. With Maduekwe refusing to speak about the issue, Saharareporters has not been able to confirm the existence of the letter officially. Our inquiries from one of the Thisday writers of the story did not yield any results: we were directed to speak with the Thisday Saturday editor in Lagos who is supposedly in possession of the letter that is now the subject of an intense ethnic and political debate.

Further investigations by Saharareporters show that although the Minister for Foreign affairs may be using ethnicity to make his point in getting Rotimi recalled, he not exactly a respecter of people of his ethnic origin. Only last year, in a fit of anger, he wrote several letters in which he deployed and redeployed Nigeria's female Charge d'Affaires in Ethiopia, Mrs. Chigozie F. Obi-Nnadozie. He eventually sent her off to Trinidad and Tobago.

Also a US-based Professor, Mobolaji Aluko, told Saharareporters that the minister, while he campaigned for former dictator Sanni Abacha to transmute into a civilian president in 1998, told him that they will have to solve the "Yoruba problem"

Aluko said he still has Maduekwe's "final solution to the Yoruba problem in Nigeria" ringing in his ears since 1998. "Tell him that I said so, and ask him whether I did not confront him with it right there in New York at the Council of Foreign Relations". Abacha died soon after those events and Maduekwe moved to the new power brokers. His search for strong authority brought him to the top of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 2007.

Sources say Madukwe may have resented Ambassador Rotimi from the beginning because it was Obasanjo who nominated the ambassador as the former president was reconciling with his successor last year after a prolonged period of frosty relations. Yar'adua's supporters however became concerned that Washington DC was too sensitive to be left in the hands of Obasanjo and his men. As a result, the ambassador was left in the cold over official diplomatic activities and his deputy, Ambassador Wakili, dealt directly with Maduekwe and the presidency.

General Rotimi, Saharareporters learnt, resented having to follow the minister around, on account of his advanced age, especially as Maduekwe has a taste for frequent and prolonged trips to the US. "The minister was notorious for spending weeks in the US just roaming around", a source in the Nigerian embassy told Saharareporters. During the United Nations General Assembly and the recently concluded inauguration of President Obama, Maduekwe spent several days in the US doing nothing in particular. As Nigeria's representative to the General Assembly, he was not allowed to make his presentation until almost everyone had left; even then, it was merely to read the speech of Yar'adua, who could not attend on account of his failing health.

SaharaReporters also learnt that the Federal government sent two delegations to the Obama inauguration from Abuja even though no invitation had been sent to Abuja. Chief Emeka Anyaoku led one delegation while Minister Maduekwe led yet another. Ambassador Rotimi ran into trouble with Maduekwe when he requested that the two teams be merged together for managerial and reception reasons. Maduekwe, who is known to be a highly-egotistical man, refused all entreaties to accept that the older, more experienced Chief Anyaoku lead the two teams. He was also enraged by the refusal of the ambassador to surrender his inauguration tickets to him so that he could lead the Nigerian delegation to the inauguration. But this could not be done because the US Secret Service in Washington D.C. would not substitute or permit an uninvited Foreign Minister in place of an accredited Ambassador.

Both Maduekwe and General Rotimi are close to former president Obasanjo, but as things fell apart between the duo, Maduekwe is said to have portrayed to Yar'adua that General Rotimi is still loyal to the former president as Rotimi had visited Obasanjo while the latter while Obasanjo was at the UN to present his report on the peace mission in the Congo. Coincidentally, Maduekwe himself also met with Obasanjo extensively and reportedly bad-mouthed Yar'adua to Obasanjo, telling the former president that Yar'adua arrives at Federal Executive Meetings (FEC) seated before everyone and doesn't move or speak as such, underscoring the gravity of his sickness.

Saharareporters sources said Yar'adua will likely approve a statement by next week recalling Oluwole, since his hands have now been forced.

BRIG-GEN (rtd) OLUWOLE ROTIMI, CON, BA (LONDON), JSSC.

Oluwole Rotimi was born on the 20th of February 1935 into a large and well known family at Oke-Ijeun quarters in Abeokuta. His father, John Oladeinde Rotimi made his mark first as a produce-buyer and later as a motor transporter while his mother, Efunwale Rotimi was a trader.

Oluwole Rotimi’s education began at Ago-Oko Methodist School and through to Lisabi School in Abeokuta. Later he attended Olowogbowo Methodist School in Lagos. From 1950 to 1956 he went through his Secondary School Education at King’s College Lagos where he obtained the Cambridge Higher School Certificate. He later went to University College, Ibadan where he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts Degree of London University (2nd class) in 1960.

He joined the Nigeria Army in 1960 and rose rapidly with his other colleagues and course mates to become a Brigadier-General in 1972. In his Military career he served in the Congo under United Nations Force between 1961 and 1962. He also attended many courses of instructions both within Nigeria and Overseas.

He had varied postings in the Nigerian Army and distinguished himself as the first indigenous Deputy Quartermaster General of Nigerian Army in 1964 and also the third indigenous Quartermaster General in 1966. He commanded Ibadan Garrison from 1969 to 1970.

As Quartermaster General, his department (Q Branch) provided logistics support for Federal war efforts against ‘BIAFRA.’ This was an enormous task as the Federal troops were ill-prepared and ill equipped for a war that lasted 30 months. Immediately after the civil war in 1970, he attended the Joint Service Staff College in Buckinghamshire in the United Kingdom.

In January 1971, he was appointed a member of Nigerian delegation to the Commonwealth Heads of Government/Prime Ministers Conference in Singapore.

In April 1971, he was appointed the Military Governor of the West. This area of Nigeria had a political notoriety of being described as ‘WILD, WILD WEST.’ Through the incumbent’s style of governance Western Nigeria was tamed. Under a peaceful and stable polity it was possible to achieve greater economic advancement and sustain existing infrastructural developments. The Rotimi Military Administration succeeded in establishing the following industries:

1. The Cement Factory at Shagamu
2. The Wire and Cable Factory in Ibadan
3. The Ceramic Factory in Abeokuta
4. The Wood Processing Factory in Ondo
5. The Palm Oil Mill at Okitipupa.
The Military coupe of 1975 terminated Brig. General Rotimi’s meritorious military career.

The Muritala/Obasanjo Military regime instituted an intensive probe of the 12 Military Governors/Administrator that served Gowon’s administration. The probe exonerated Brig. Gen. Rotimi and one other Governor as both were found neither to have abused their offices nor guilty of corruption.

From 1975 and up till now, Brig. Gen. Rotimi has scrupulously refrained from partisan politics or any controversies whatsoever, devoting himself to his business and his family. As a patriotic citizen and an aspiring statesman, he contributes to all measures that promote the unity of Nigeria and elevate her to higher moral and ethical standards.

It is in this quest for a better Nigeria that Chief Olusegun Obasanjo administration identified Brig. Gen. Oluwole Rotimi to head a Commission of Inquiry for the Investigation of Federal Government Landed Property in 1999.

From his distinguished and meritorious service to Nigeria, Brig-Gen. Oluwole Rotimi was honored with a national award of Commander of the Order of the Niger (CON) in 2003.

In 2005, Brig-Gen. Oluwole Rotimi was appointed a member of the National Constitutional Review Conference representing Ogun State.

After intense pressure and lobbying, Gen. Oluwole Rotimi decided to join politics as a card carrying member of the Peoples Democratic Party of Nigeria. As President Olusegun Obasanjo’s administration was coming to an end, Brig. Gen (rtd) Oluwole Rotimi was appointed a member of the PDP Presidential Candidates Screening Committee.

After the emergence of H.E. Alhaji Umar Musa Yar’adua as the PDP Presidential candidate, Gen. Oluwole Rotimi was appointed South-West coordinator of Musa Yar’adua/Jonathan Goodluck Presidential Campaign Council. In this capacity, the South-West Zone delivered five states out of six States to the PDP.

As a community leader he is:

1. Chairman Ago-Oko Methodist Church Re-development project.
2. Former Chairman Nigeria Polo Association, Life Patron Ibadan Polo Club and member Board of Trustees of the Nigeria Polo Association.
3. Patron, Abeokuta Social Club.

He is married with children.

personally I have no respect for Nigerian military men and it looks like that's about all he did before he was made an ambassador.

If chief Ojo was been tribalist, why should they not tell it to his faces. This is the problem with Nigeria. Look, I would look at President Yar adua to his faces and call him tribalist if I found him to be. He can shoot me if he want.

And his General Rotimi is age , or that of the president. And are we not africa. Even if he pick up a stick and carry chief Ojo on his lap. He as the right to do so under the africa culture.

And we Yorubas are feed up with the way yar adua govt is treating Yorubas. we are feed up with his govt . we can say that yorubas should be more than 50% of the nigerian in the United state.

All of these crooks don't deserve my time,

I grow up calling "up nepa", right now, I am using generator, my son will most likely also call up NEPA,

I wished all of dem could die like rats, so that proper educated human beings can rule us,

, I just love the way some of our yoruba brothers and sisters like to caste the yorubas as the only honest, hardworking, super christian, friendly, untribalist, anti 419, etc etc etc tribe in Naija. I don't understand why the kettle keeps calling the pot black.
