.... I still suspect the fulanies/our neighboring countries(chad and Niger) in all this menace. not until the northerners realizes this the better for them!!

Call me a conspiracy theorist I don't care but I still see the hand of the west in all this. Its just unfortunate that the previous administration was so weak that it allowed it to linger for so long without doing much to quash it.

They are simply using the most vulnerable region of the country to perpetrate their evil. They knew the north is the most easy region in nigeria to brainwash. They thought with the weak government in the country, they can achieve their aim of breaking up this country thereby benefiting from the chaos. That is why they predicted the break up of Nigeria this year. That's why they refused to help the previous government(which was weak anyway) but God has a different plan for this country. Now they've seen a strong leader in PMB they are offering to help just to appear friendly. Please tell me, who needs more help? The weak or the strong?

BackDatAssUp:
Birth of A monster

Mohamed Yusuf is widely accepted to be the original leader of the proscribed militant Islamic group commonly referred to as Boko Haram.

What most of you are not aware of is the original composition of Yusuf's inner circle which were drawn not from the vast population of poor ignorant masses in the north but from very educated young men of privileged background.

What most of you also are not aware of is that the radicalization of these young men did not begin with Yusuf or in some rundown Madrasah that dots northern Nigeria but in lecture halls in universities across northern Nigeria. They came to Yusuf because they could identify with his own very radical message.

The group gots it's nick name Boko Haram for its opposition of western styled education and mainly because the group was composed of young privileged and highly educated young men who turned their back on the world preferring a return to classical medieval Islamic society. Public destruction of certificates was done to woo more young men into their fold.

The group unsurprisingly continued to enjoy wide spread support among young northerners because of the energetic, vibrant and new perspective they offered. Within a short time, the group started to draw negative critism fom the old established clerics who not only frowned about their radical views but saw their own popularity wane in the midst of younger Muslims who preferred what Yusuf had to offer.

This critism will lead to both false and truthful allegations by the clerics to the authorities on the extent of the radicalization Yusuf was offering the youth. The security apparatus then swung in to investigate the activities of Yusuf and his group and severally he was "invited" to the police station to clarify issues. This only made Yusuf more popular among the youth and gave him an air of fighting the established order. The north was witnessing its first ever revolutionary character.

Yusuf sensing the new twist to his personality and movement will capitalize on his new found fame and status by pumping up the rhetoric even further. This is when the crooked politicians got to notice this young charismatic man. His popularity they (politicians) thought, could be used to their advantage and before long Yusuf added another feather to his influence and ego. With Politicians patronizing Yusuf and soliciting for his support base, things were bound to get to his head.

Here was this young man of humble background and limited education surrounded by children of the elite and the poor masses at his beck and call now getting visits from prominent local, state, regional and national political figures.

Before long the politicians began to use Yusuf's supporters to carry out violent attacks on their opponents for a fee paid to Yusuf off course.
This only made Yusuf more notorious with the security agents. But anytime he or any of his members were picked up both their highly placed political associates and the influential relatives of his Lieutenants swung into action to spring him out of custody.

Before long Yusuf built an air of impunity for himself and his members since they were always let go Scott free after any of their violent skirmishes within Borno. It didn't take long for concerned individuals to petition the DSS about Yusuf and before long he was picked up during the second tenure of Obasanjo and was held for a long period by the DSS. This was the time Yusuf met Asari in detention.

But eventually, Yusuf was released back into society and his aura had taken up legendary status.
This is a man that even the federal government could not convict.
From here on, grand delusions of grandeur began to set in and Yusuf thought he had everything at is disposal to take out the Nigerian state.

We thus, cannot exclude the influences of Yusuf's inner circle and their connections to the corridor of power in our polity in incubating the monster boko haram.

This goes to show that the Boko Haram insurgency has its roots in the northern oligarchy.

Abdulmutalab is a good example of how a young privileged and educated northern youth can become radicalized.

This is were the maitassine movement differs completely with that of Boko Haram.

The maitassine movement was drawn from the poor dredges of northern Nigeria. The maitassine movement was effectively dealt with because the northern oligarchy saw it as a revolutionary movement ( which it was) challenging their authority and dominance and as such this was why the group was completely isolated and summarily destroyed.

The case with Boko Haram is different as the group is intertwined with the northern oligarchy.

Did u write this or it was copied? Lovely read though... So how do we deal with this menace then? The northern oligarchy, will that include Sanusi lamido, atiku or buhari?

Thank you sir, for your opinion, but Nigerians & Southerners in particular are tired of the tepid, lukewarm approach to governance hence creating more fidelity for the demons in our politicians to perpetrate and perpetuate more of the evil on our collective psyche and lives. We now want more than a confrontation with these vampires and empire wreckers. Apparently the softly softly approach will never work in Nigeria, as evidenced by the previous calamitous administration we just went through with. Shikena!!!

Nigeria can’t take a drastic move, it needs a gradual process of getting there.

So inspite of your walk in life, you still failed to realise you've just contradicted yourself by saying the religion is not of peace but the Rich ones there are peaceful. You just showed the misunderstanding most people have about this religion. The religion has no problem or fault but a few people who are afflicted with poverty have.
Initially you said its the religion but at the end you said that poverty is the problem of this people. Which one do we believe?
.

While the gentleman you quoted may have over-generalised, it is not true that only the poor are prone to extremism. Of course the poorer and more disenfranchised people are, the more the chances of being lured into a group that gives a meaning, camaraderie and importance to their lives.
For example the most loyal Hitler youths were such during the Third Reich in Germany.

But Mutallab, the pant bomber belong to the elite. Bin Laden came from one of the richest Saudi families.
By far 99.99% of Muslims go about their lives peacefully, so religion itself is not making everyone violent. BUT the massive effect of the microscopic minority who decide to use the scripture to justify violence & extremism HAVE a massive impact on perceptions.

This is where the average Muslims need to be emphatic in their condemnation of that minority and not seek to evade what is a glaring reality.

You are not an intelligent man/woman, at all. What he said is true - northerners fear the truth. Your leaders have tried to hold back the country as a whole - just as they have done with their own states.

Rivers state and Imo state may have issues but they are not amongst the most poverty ridden places on the planet as the northern states are. Those states do not have issues with child marriage. They do not have a large proportion of children out of school. They do not have children on the street begging - those that you do see come from the north, or Niger.

12 northern states beginning year 2000 adopted use of sharia criminal laws that include stoning women to death for adultery, cutting off hands of petty thieves, etc.

Latter, Boko Haram emerged and says it is fighting for a country governed by sharia criminal laws.

Northern leaders need to tell themselves the truth which is that once the 12 sharia states renounce the adoption of sharia criminal justice system, Boko Haram shall cease operation,

because Boko Haram shall no longer have millions of people in northern Nigeria with whom it shares the same aspirations for a country governed with sharia criminal justice system.

My opinion: Islam is a political movement with the aim of global rule using religion as its tool with sharia as the platform. To achieve this goal any and every means is acceptable. The end justifies the means including deception, oppression, war, terror, injustice, democracy and rule of law, demographics, civil society, philanthropy, marriage, etc. The unbeliever has no status. He is dispensable without guilt feelings by the dispenser.

Here is the link: https://www.nairaland.com/2147292/poverty-behind-boko-haram#30724630

As for Sanusi,he is at the forefront of Islamization in Nigeria.

WombRaiders:
Sanusi attended the Ahmadu Bello University between the years 1977 till 1981.

Sanusi Lamido was an active member of the Muslim Student's Society during his days as an undergraduate in the university of Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria.

In 1979, the MSS will stage violent protests on campus grounds demanding from members ofthe national Assembly to “stop opposition to Sharia or take full responsibility for putting the entire nation in chaos”.

At this time Sanusi was an exco member of the group.

Today, those early members and founders of the Moslem Student Society are in powerful positions and are at the vanguard of the Islamization and Northenization agenda.

Some occupy senior lecture positions in northern universities from where they continue their radicalization of young northern moslems.

Here is a security report on the MSS after they went on rampage on campus ( the first campus disturbance in Nigeria) attacking members of the Keggite Association who where mainly southern christians.

Sanusi was an exco member of the MSS at the time of the riot.

WombRaiders:
See pages 202 and 203 of this documents which detail the attack carried by MSS on Kegite members on campus.

http://wikileaks.org/gifiles/attach/10/10138_The%20Maitatsine%20Risings%20in%20Nigeria%20-%201980-1985.pdf

You will also see a brief 1979 security dossier report on the group after the skirmish where the group is described as "not having any beliefs in the National Constituion; does not recognize the authority and existence of the federal govt and abhor the sale and consumption of alcohol on campuses where they exist". The report goes on to state that the group "hold a firm belief of the ultimate attainment of an Islamic state in the country; through an Iranian styled revolution"

.

From the bolded quote above, can you see any difference between MSS members in the 70's from that of Boko Haram.

Stop talking thrash if you don't understand the issues at stake. The fact remains that the real hard truth that most muslims including Gumi are yet to face is that what boko haram is doing is 100% islamic according to the quoran, hadiths and the sunnah of mohamed. So deal with it. I don't need to be politically correct, I call a spade a spade.

Illiteracy they say is a Disease but I usually say Half education is dangerous. When you carry something that is more powerful than you and fail to fully understand it(half education), you tend to misbehave. The religion is too powerful and deep for human being to just comprehend with few isolated verses of its book. You need to be fully educated on it to understand how peaceful it is.

Most of the foot soldiers of BH are dangerous half educated morons who are brainwashed with carefully selected verses of the scripture but with intentional and malicious aim to misinform them.

There's what they call Entity concept in accounting. It is when you separate the company from the owners. Instead of all the hate statements you keep making about the religion, why not try to meet with someone(maybe a friend) who knows better about the religion as separate from the people practising it to enlighten you on it.

I get where u r driving at. But there r so many religions out there. Y is Islam always at the center of controversies? Y is it the only misunderstood religion?

Islamic extremism in Nigeria increases as you climb the social ladder.

Most poor northern moslems just want to eke out a meagre living for themselves and don't have time or resources going to Sudan to study Classical Arabic.

Poverty is not at the core of Islamic extremism rather it is the northern oligarchy who subject their people to ignorance and poverty in order to be exploited in future riots.

WombRaiders:
The Obama administration wants the rest of the world to believe that wide spread poverty and systematic corruption are behind the Boko Haram insurgency. This off course is all hog wash rubbish from that muslim apologist bastard in the white house who has come out severally in defense of Islam more so than Muslims themselves.

Obama seems more bothered in defending Islam than condemning the acts of Muslims these days and he has gone a step futher to blame the west for the actions of Islamic terrorists group on them. This is akin to blaming the victim and turning the villan to the victim.

The current US ambassador ( that CIA bastard) has come out to even blame Christian communities for instigating attacks by muslims on them! Can you beat that crap?

Off course we all know what this rubish by the Obama administration is all geared towards ensuring that their preferred candidate from the north emerges back into power. The power dynamics of this will see a halt in further Nigerian Russian ad Chinnese cooperation that America feels left out.

The topic of debate here is to see exactly what is fueling radical Islam in the north and specifically the main inspirations behind the original core founders of the boko haram group.
