Daejoyoung: Now let me tell you a fact about Nigerians in SA. More often then not there are two types of Nigerians who come to SA. 1 Are those who come here to look for work, study at our world class institutions or start there own businesses and those are in the minority. They come with degrees to SA and more often then not those qualifications are not recordnized by SAQA in SA and they need to be reskilled or write exams in order for them to become medical practitioners or whatever field they practice in. More often then not those with degrees are not qualified and they are the ones who illegal medical practitioners in SA. 2 Are those who come from your Igbo clans and come here more often then not with no formal education. They are the majority who come here with criminal intent and they are the most hated here in SA because of there activities which more often are in drug dealing, fraud or socalled front shops while committing other crimes like prostitution rings and human trafficking. There are more then 600 Nigerians in SA jails for criminal acts. Now let's look at Hillbrow or Sunnyside where most Nigerians live in SA. Those places are being run down by property hijacking, drugs and prostitution mostly mostly run by Nigerian nationals and that's a fact. Yes not all Nigerians abroad can be categorized as criminals where they migrate to but it is an undeniable fact that most of you will end up doing illegal activity wherever they reside. A simple example would be the way Nigerians are being perceived in countries like India, Singapore, China and Thailand go see how many are on death row in those nations and then compare those stats to the rest of africa. 9 Likes 2 Shares |

Jkay187:Well that is SA, and maybe lndia, Singapore, China. I'm saying we have Nigerians doing very well in the diaspora, l wasn't talking about lndia, Singapore, China or Thailand, perhaps Nigerians who leave for these countries had no business leaving Nigeria in the first place, perhaps many left to make quick money and then brag to their people back home. if you view some old Nollywood movies, you'll see it's thesame trend. The man in the village believing that if he leaves for the city or goes to Lagos, he would make it automatically or would come back home a rich man. Many Nigerians are going to countries they shouldn't be leaving for in the first place, and they see that they were better off in Nigeria. 4 Likes |

Can you compare China and Norway to each other in same breath. What the world uses is HDI not PPP as a measurement of social and economic wealth my man. 5 Likes |

Funnyman: On the Hiv front your people are currently worse of then SA by all indices because we have a far better health system then yours including we test more people and unlike Nigeria we have gotten over the Hiv stigma. How many people are being tested in nigeria on a daily bases. In Nigeria non of your politicians use your health systems, Buhari is a casing point. How many of your Leaders died in Foreign nations is another good indicator. Let's stop this bs now. 9 Likes 1 Share |

Jkay187: There are more than 2 types of Nigerians that come to South Africa but a majority of them can be categorized as Skilled, semi skilled and unskilled migrants. A class of skilled migrants find the transition seamless , they are highly trained most of the time affluent or retired person who are looking to relocate to a more stable country in terms of lifestyle. Another class are semi skilled, those who have degrees but require additional training to penetrate the systems impediments created to protect the countries citizens or structures. These have to acquire additional skills to be able to enter the work force. They often do make this change and enter the system as required. The third class are the ones you see en mass who are underskilled who travel to a country that cannot absorb them and are forced or willing enter into industries that are not very decent. Jkay187: This is fact however there is a statistical reason why it is fact and the perception you are aspousing is quite dubious and I will explain. It is easier for these unskilled migrants to transit to South Africa that it is for them to make their way to other countries with stronger economies that are able to absorb them, thsu the reason for their large numbers in South Africa. Simple stating fact without context is dubious analysis that is often biased. Jkay187: This is another dubious analysis based on a biased mindset about Nigerians and a more deeper look will reveal the complexities of your simple minded answer There are approximately 170 million Nigerians An estimated 10 million reside outside of the country Of that 10 million extrapolate the numbers is countries like south Africa, probably about 1 million. The rest do make it to more developed countries. of the the 1 million in south Africa extrapolate the number of unskilled workers, I will be generous and say 80% o the 1 million that leaves 800,000 potential hoodlums and drug dealers, Extrapolate the demographics, so remove women a 30% rate who are less likely to be drug dealers, children under the age of 18 who are dependents and at a 10% rate, it leaves 60% potential drug dealing class. that is a potential 480,000 drug dealing class of people in South Africa. Now compare that to the entire population of SA which stands at 50 million and then concentrate those 480,000 in urban areas such as Hilbrow, sunnyside and the rest. Then compare these numbers to the overall population of Nigeria at 170 million and you will see that your response or perception is downright ludicris. Facts without context can be misconstrued. Try to put things in an objective perspective and remove your bias. It will reveal more of the truth to you if you care to really know 4 Likes 1 Share |

Jkay187: Again facts without contextualizing. The indices currently is 1 in 4 people in South Africa are potential HIV carriers, which points to the fact that if you count 4 people you know or they count 4 people they know 1 of them is potentially HIV positive or knows someone who is HIV positive, In my experiences interacting with SA , I find this statistic to be a good estimate. This extrapolation does not necessarily need the reporting of HIV statistics to prove its authencity. Compare apples with apples and relativity to relativity. Nigeria has a population of 170 million, in absolute terms its potential to have more HIV cases is larger compared to the population size of South africa, in relative terms it is easier for you to become HIV infected if you sleep with someone from South Africa, good health care or no good health care. shervydman: Despite global efforts to reduce the mortality rate of tuberculosis, TB, Nigeria still ranks high among the seven countries which account majorly for the disease globally. Nigeria ranked sixth among the countries with the global burden. Two of the major challenges (for Nigeria) have been the inability to detect cases and the battle against drug resistant variants of the ailment especially among people living with HIV/ AIDS. According to the global TB report 2017 released by World Health Organisation, WHO on Monday, there were an estimated 10.4 million new TB cases worldwide in 2016, 10 per cent of which were people living with HIV/AIDS. Of these new cases, seven countries are noted to account for 64 per cent of the total burden. India topped the chart followed by Indonesia, China, Philippines, Pakistan, Nigeria and South Africa. An estimated 1.7 million people died from TB, including nearly 400 000 people who were co- infected with HIV. The WHO said there has been a drop by 4 per cent compared to 2015. The health agency said global efforts to combat tuberculosis had saved an estimated 53 million lives since 2000 and reduced the TB mortality rate by 37 per cent. WHO said despite these achievements, the latest picture is grim. It said TB remains the top infectious killer in 2016 and that it is also the main cause of deaths related to antimicrobial resistance and the leading killer of people with HIV. Progress in most countries is stalling and is not fast enough to reach global targets or close persistent gaps in TB care and prevention. Also, according to the National Tuberculosis and Leprosy Control Programme, over 80 per cent of TB cases were still undetected. Tedros Ghebreyesus, Director General of WHO, said while the world has committed to ending the TB epidemic by 2030, actions and investments do not match the political rhetoric. He said multidrug-resistant TB (MDR-TB) remains a public health crisis and a health security threat. WHO estimates that there were 600 000 new cases with resistance to rifampicin – the most effective first- line drug, of which 490 000 had MDR-TB. Almost half of these cases were in India, China and the Russian Federation. The report argued for rigorous care and financing in tackling the epidemic especially in subset of high TB burden countries; as underreporting and under- diagnosis of TB cases continue to be a challenge, especially in countries with large unregulated private sectors and weak health systems. Also, according to the report, of the estimated 10.4 million new cases, only 6.3 million were detected and officially notified in 2016, leaving a gap of 4.1 million. India, Indonesia and Nigeria accounted for almost half of this global gap. Mario Raviglione, Director of the WHO Global TB Programme said ”the sheer numbers of deaths and suffering speak for themselves and countries are not accelerating fast enough.” ”Prompt action towards universal health coverage and social protection, as well as breakthroughs in research and innovations – will be critical to enable access to patient-centred care of the highest standards for all, especially the poorest, most disadvantaged people everywhere”, he said. https://www.premiumtimesng.com/news/more-news/247760-despite-global-efforts-tb-mortality-still-high-nigeria-others.html In the report it clearly shows Nigeria has an inability to detect. 1 Like |

MduZA: Good day Mduza, Long time no hear your bull crap. let me rebut your nonsensical statements Point 1. Your 95% assumption is pure speculation, you cannot provide a shred of evidence to back that ridiculous statement. If you said 10 to 15% that would have been more plausible so lets throw that out the window. THe second statistical figure is also nonsensical, even if 1 percent of Nigerians tested for HIV, a statistician could still extrapolate the potential numbers of HIV vicitms over a given period of time which would les to near accurate numbers coming out as the potential HIV infection rate in Nigeria, as they did when the ebola virus hit the country so chuck your point number two out the window Go back to school instead of hanging out all day at Chis nyama drinking beer and faking your "blesser" status |

Jkay187: Dubious analysis of the report you just read. What the report is alluding to or insinuating is towards access to health care which lowers the chances of recording TB cases. How you find the nexus between HIB prevalent rates in Nigeria compared to South Africa, I am still scratching my head on that one. In absolute numbers, Nigeria will always have a higher HIV rate than South Africa if that is the point you are trying to make but in relative terms the probability of getting infected with HIV is much higher if you sleep with a South African person because its a 1 in chance. The treatment of HIV or access to health care services is a different animal on its own. Shikena |

morpheus24: Now morphy u just eluded to the fact that Nigeria has higher HIV numbers in total so that proves my point that some of your Naija brothers here are wrong when they come here and tell us whenever we argue or have a discussion that SA is hiv infested. When looking at SA's access to hiv treatment it is currently the worlds biggest, now compare that to Nigeria and its access to treatment and stigma attached to hiv in nigeria especially in the North of your country it is safe to say you have a higher disease burden then SA if we include factors like TB also. Until you can prove that Nigeria as a nation has better access to primary health care compared to SA, you must agree that your brothers in arms here on this thread is wrong. 1 Like |

Jkay187: Their observation is somewhat understandable. In comparison as I have said, the probability of contracting HIV from unprotected sex in South Africa is higher than it will be in Nigeria even though in absolute numbers Nigeria will have a higher NUMBER of HIV incidents reported or unreported. Jkay187: Access to HIV treatment does not weigh in on the number of infected or the potential to become infected. It just means that those who contract it will have a better prognosis and the mother to Baby transmission will be at a lower to zero rate if detected early. Therefore you cannot uses this point successfully in this argument. Even if I concede that Nigeria has a poorer health care system, it doe snot affect does not significantly affect the rate of transmission, NOTE I said "SIGNIFICANTLY affect the rate". Fact still remains that you are more likely to contract HIV in South Africa than in Nigeria. A 1 in 4 infection rate and a 1 in 17 infection rate are not the same. |
