On the 25th of May, 2009, there's going to be a friendly match between the Super Eagles of Nigeria and the Irish Team.  What's your prediction?

@ Seun

I still don't understand why the NFF continues to recycle the teams we play. The same old teams- Jamaica, Rep of Ireland, Ghana, Squirrels Of Benin Republic etc etc. The Colombia match was the only exception. The Super Eagles need to play against formidable opponents like Spain, Germany, England, Argentina, Croatia or the Czech Republic. These quality squads will expose our team's deficiencies. Na wa for out soccer authorities o. There seems to be a lack of ideas at the Glass House. Only if the right people were there.

Must it be Ireland . . . .How many times will you play them?
Re: Nigeria Vs Ireland [1-1]: May 29 2009 by Jarus(m): 8:37am On Feb 23, 2009
Unity Cup 2004, Nigeria played Jamaica and Ireland. After that 3-nation tournament, Nigeria has played Jamaica three times again. Now it's Ireland again. Na wa o. When Egypt, Senegal,CIV, Tunisia, Morocco easily get friendly with France, Holland, Argentina, Nigeria, with our pedigree in world soccer(at least on paper) keep playing Jamaica, Colombia, Ireland etc
Re: Nigeria Vs Ireland [1-1]: May 29 2009 by Afam4eva(m): 11:59am On Feb 23, 2009
Why must we always play low-profile countries. When are we going to start playing quality friendly matches with big names like Brazil, Argentina,England,France,Germany,Spain,Portugal and the Lot.
Re: Nigeria Vs Ireland [1-1]: May 29 2009 by Afam4eva(m): 12:02pm On Feb 23, 2009
How are we going to do well in South Africa 2010 if we keep playing this low rated teams, Pls let the football authority wake up from their slumber if they want us to be a formidable side in the world cup.
Re: Nigeria Vs Ireland [1-1]: May 29 2009 by cvibe: 12:15pm On Feb 23, 2009
Low rated until they whip us?

This game is not until the end of May, why is the thread up already?
Re: Nigeria Vs Ireland [1-1]: May 29 2009 by Afam4eva(m): 1:56pm On Feb 23, 2009
World cup is just a year to go and we're still decieving ourselves. This countries that we keep playing won't even qualify for the world cup.

Re: Nigeria Vs Ireland [1-1]: May 29 2009 by Redman44(m): 3:56pm On Feb 23, 2009
We will keep playing all these low rated teams until we sort out the problems bedevilling Nigerian football. For example, why is it taking the NFF so long to appoint a new coach for the U-21 team? We all know Ladan Bosso is not a good coach. We all knew how he fumbled in Canada 2007. Yet, I am hearing hearing rumours that he might not be sacked after his recent bad performances.

Those at the Glass House do not know how to organize top soccer friendlies. Those that can make the Super Eagles play against teams like Argentina or Spain are not part of the current NFF. Guys like Kojo Williams, Segun Odegbami, Uche Okafor [ USA 94 hero. He's also very influential ] etc etc. Sincerely, playing against the Republic of Ireland is absolute bollocks !!! angry

The Republic of Ireland is known for sending Catholic priests all over the world than for playing football. Cheers.

As long as they continue to play such teams, let them change their name to green eagle until they become super again.
Re: Nigeria Vs Ireland [1-1]: May 29 2009 by bawomolo(m): 1:12am On Feb 24, 2009
you can't beat jamaica, you can't beat columbia but you somehow want to play Germany?
Re: Nigeria Vs Ireland [1-1]: May 29 2009 by omar22(m): 6:43am On Feb 24, 2009
Well i could remember all of us travelling up to Vicarage road (WATFORD) to watch the eagle against Venezuela, a match that was meant to start 3:00pm 2 hrs before the match the Venezuelans realised that the money hasn't reached their account, so they decided to stay in the team hotel, so the team delegates had run around looking for money to pay their bills (even for the match officials) all in all the match started around 5:20pm, which was a disgrace! now playing Jamaica and Ireland is a DISGRACE!!!!! Cote De Voire is playing teams all over Europe, win lose or draw they are gaining experience but Naija!!! very soon we would be looking for teams like Solomon Island, Fiji or Tonga to play friendly

That's where Amodu has connections and can arrange his deals and cut, Abi u want make him loose like 10 - 0 to Germany and them sack am!
Re: Nigeria Vs Ireland [1-1]: May 29 2009 by Redman44(m): 4:29pm On Feb 24, 2009
@ omar 22

I agree with you. It is a shame that the Eagles are playing the Irish Republic again.

Very soon, the NFF will line up friendlies with countries like Bahrain, Tuvalu, Comoros Islands and all their likes.

Na Wah O!!!

A sensible response.
Its all about the money and the contacts available.

Play a "high profile" team, get beat and lose the work.
Play a "Low profile" team, get gate receipts and shake off the critics.
Re: Nigeria Vs Ireland [1-1]: May 29 2009 by bawomolo(m): 3:15am On Feb 25, 2009
the thing is we aren't defeating these low profile teams. Why should high profile teams play us when our top players refuse to leave their club engagements. You got to settle with what you got.
Re: Nigeria Vs Ireland [1-1]: May 29 2009 by eldee(m): 10:09am On Feb 25, 2009
Ireland is too small?
Gimme American Samoa, it'll be fun beating any team 20-0 cheesy

It's because we stated playing them in the first place.

Ireland arent no small team,do u guys knw d kind of players that are there? Eg keane
Re: Nigeria Vs Ireland [1-1]: May 29 2009 by Redman44(m): 4:53pm On Feb 26, 2009
@ fadajasi

apart from Robbie Keane , Damien Duff and one or two other players, who are the other good ballers that Ireland can boast of?

What is the football pedigree of the Republic of Ireland? How many FIFA Junior or Senior Competitions has the Rep of Ireland won?

I don't even know if the Irish have a female national soccer team grin

Lets call a spade a spade. We beat Ireland the last time we played them. Remember when Obafemi Martins singlehandedly destroyed the Irish opposition in a match played in Britain some years ago?

We need to play stronger teams so that we can discover our deficiencies. Cheers.

*Fact Ireland made it to the Senior World Cup level before the Nigeria debut in USA '94.
*Fact statistics and records have shown that Ireland has won more times against 'Her Majesty boys'-England.
*Fact Ireland has never won the Junior World Cup , and a guranteed fact they've never (and would never) field 'over aged Players'!
*Fact the quality of the domestic league is of utmost standard in comparison with other/most EU country (which is way superior to the Nigeria local league) , the Managerial/organisational ability and the cupidity for excellence by 'The Irish FA' cannot be overemphasised , one which Nigeria as a nation could draw from!
*Fact the reason why Nigeria has been playing friendlies with Ireland (almost annually) since 2004 was partly as a result of a pact sighned back then , this could be likened to what is for example or the equivalent of say the 'six Nation Rugby tournament'!
*Fact there have been mass exodus of Nigerian players abroad in pursuit of greener pasture and exposure (thanks to the likes of Stephen Keshi) , Fact Ireland is(was) synonymous to the religious life and Nigeria have been blessed by the invaluable work of the Irish Misssionaries but alas 'The boys in Green' (Ireland) have been in the business of soccer and have carved a niche for themselves at the highest level long before anyone from the 'Giant of Africa'- Nigeria.
*Fact in coparison to the Irish team which play together as a (formidable) single entity, no doubt the 'Super Eagles' consist of a bunch of individually skillful players , but the bitter truth is that they (Nigeria) lack the tenacity of a (would be) world champions and the heart(and passion) of a European.
Finally I say to all the sycophants in here to get off your high horse and go back to the basics before you start slagging any team/country , Come on the 'boys in Green'!
