There is nothing wrong in operation a joint account, the only thing is one should not abuse it.

There is nothing wrong in operating a joint account, however, better for the man to have something aside for the raining day.
There are some women that regardless will spend, and when there is nothing in the joint account, the woman expect the man to provide, so better for the man to have something stash somewhere, where he can dip into for emergency.

Why can't they have a joint account for the rainy day? An account they can only withdraw from by agreement?

Cos definition of raining is different to both woman and the man.
Please, let me specify that if the woman is the prudent one in the relationship, she should be the one that need to keep something for the raining day.
