Why Corpers Will Not Serve In Adamawa State by Tola4word(f): 2:56pm On Jun 17, 2015
It is not a new news that the peace of some states in the country is being affected by the terrorist group called Boko Haram and Adamawa state is one of those state. Since the inception of National youth service in 1973 There has always been inter-tribal relationship as one of the major reasons for establishing the scheme Is to bridge a relationship between the tribes in Nigeria and this explains why Yorubas, Igbos, Hausas and other tribes in the country do not serve in their regional residence. Despite the presence of Boko Haram in some states in Nigeria of which Adamawa state is one of those states, some fearless corp members still agree to defy all odds in serving their fatherland by serving in Adamawa state regardless of the security issue thereby refusing to relocate to other states in the country based on security issue.
To a great surprise one of top officials at the orientation camp who is expected to calm and reassure corp members on the security issues and other issues decided to bring up another issue which is more serious than security issue. At the parade ground on Monday 7th 2015 arround 6: 30am, Mr Ishaya Caleb, the assistant Director for the Adamawa State orientation camp which is holding at Jalingo in Taraba state, decided to bring up tribal issue. Mr Ishaya intentionally or unintentionally spoke negatively of the Yoruba tribe at the parade ground that morning knowing full well that a larger percentage of the corp members deployed to Adamawa state are from the south west and predominantly Yorubas. He gave a speech which has the team of tribal sentiment. It is no news that the Yoruba tribe is the most educated tribe in the country which explains why the south western part of the country which is predominantly occupied by the Yorubas is the most developed region in the country. Mr Ishaya express his bitterness about the south west region as he claimed that so many media companies have their head quarter in south west consequently they are known to be reporters of the most junky news. Mr Ishaya claimed that most of the offences that is being committed at the orientation camp is committed by Yoruba people. He further explain that the Yorubas are the most corrupt people in the country and that when they hold a powerful post in the society, they do not perform well. He also confess his fears as he claim that he cannot come to the south west region because it is dangerous for him. Though this statement sounds ironic and ridiculous as corp members have been receiving threats from some northerners that they will be robbed of their salary on their way home. Despite the fact that a report was made about the threat, all the Adamawa NYSC state coordinator could say was that the corpers should have faith. it is no new news that corpers do serve in the south west region too and they are not been threatened of being robbed on their way home after orientation. The south west region is a very civilized place and as such, the level of poverty is not as high as what we have in the Northern part of the country which explains why the minimum wage of 19,500 earned by the corpers is not a thing that can inspire robbery in the heart of the citizens in south west.
For every crime that is being committed at the orientation camp, Mr Ishaya is always eager and happy to hold the yorubas responsible for the crime. He siezes every opportunity to insult the yoruba tribe. When every one is trying to convince the corp members to be united, when everyone is trying to maintain peace in the country, when everyone is trying to avoid secession in the country and when the president is trying to solve the problem of terrorism which has implanted itself in the earth of the Northerners, Mr Ishaya is busy building a wall between the tribes. He is trying to create a tribal war.
It is easy to bear the insecurity in Adamawa state as every man's fate lies in God's hands and if one could follow the rules and regulation, one might be saved. On the other hand, it is not easy to bear discrimination especially tribal discrimination as no one decides the tribe he/she falls into. If an educated and enlightened Mr Ishaya can be biased despite his level of education, civilization and enlightenment, then what should the corp members expect from the few northerners who are not as civilised as Mr Ishaya and who the corpers are being encouraged to go to Adamawa to live with for a year.
Due to Mr Ishaya's hasty generalisation, the yorubas corp members posted to Adamawa feel insecure to spend a whole year with strangers who are not ready to become friendly with them. We hope the fire of tribal discrimination ignited by My ishaya will be put out before it burns the Yoruba corb members

That short round belly man (Mr Ishaya Caleb) is a Joker. I don't blame him, I blamed the Person of the state coordinator who is an easygoing person that created opportunities for his staffs to become Boss (es). We din't allow him call the shots during my time though because he was all about camp poke nosing.....

Ask your twin Brother of B. B Balama, a respected camp director that was like a father to us during our camping days.... He sees everybody equally and doesn't dangle religion, tribe, sex.... To his judgment

Tell your brother and his colleagues to calm down..... They will soon be out of camp and they ain't going to Adamawa neither will they remain in Jalingo except for like 2-3% that will remain in Jalingo or those that are adamant of going to Adamawa

Generally speaking, Adamawa is a nice place to live and their people are accommodating. If not for the crises and Majorly (fears of my Parents)..... I would have been in Adamawa and there are youth cops currently serving in Adamawa as we speak.
