Unless there are fresh facts to support the new extradition request, then our court should treat the latest move by US and NDLEA as spurious and a blatant abuse of Kashamu's fundamental rights. UK has closer ties to the US, better legal system than Nigeria , if this case dispassionately reviewed 12yrs ago by two courts and they both think it lacks merits, why are we still harassing the man?

If a us senator is wanted in Nigeria for prosecution would they extradict him. Pls leave kashumu alone. If he committed any offence we will try him here in Nigeria.

Food for thought. Will they? I don't think so. These people don't seem to respect the sovereignty of Nigeria.
I don't blame them sha. I blame our so called leaders.

They should please let this man be. There is no valid evidence to prosecute him. All harassment should stop. Besides, it seems the man has turned a new leaf donating 30 trailers of rice to osun state civil servants.

Why do we.Africans always put sentiments ahead of common sense? All those guys executed in Indonesia could have just donated Rice to Osun workers to avoid execution abi?

The question is, can the US allow their citizen to be extradite by Nigeria?

Sentiment apart.
God bless u for this comment. Nigerians should shed the 'pull him down' syndrome. The fact that somebody is accused doesnt make him guilty. That is why jungle justice and by extension, mob action, thrive in our society.

Fresh facts have emerged in the case of extradition between Ogun State senator, Prince Buruji Kashamu and the National Drug Law and Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) as the United Kingdom
government has expressed its own findings through a letter it recently wrote to Nigeria’s inspector general of police, Mr. Solomon Arase.

The NDLEA had last month invaded the Lekki home of Senator Buruji Kashamu, wanting to extradite him to the United States of America in order to face drug offences in the US District Court in
Chicago, Illinois being presided over by Judge Richard Charles Norgle.

However, after placing Kashamu under house arrest for about five days, Justice Buba ordered the NDLEA officials to vacate his house. He also ruled that the drug agency’s boss should appear before him
immediately to explain why the agency violated an earlier order which said that all parties involved in the case should not take any action until the court says so.

Explaining its own findings to IGP Solomon Arase through the British High Commission in Abuja in a letter dated April 27, 2015,
the UK government said that it is no longer interested in any matter concerning Kashamu, having discharged him in 2003.

The letter which was signed by Mr. Robert Hunter, a Police Advisor of the High Commission in Abuja and addressed to ‘Solomon Arase, Inspector General of Police, Force CID Headquarters, Garki Area
10’ also disclosed that the accused person is not wanted in connection with any other offences within the UK jurisdiction.

The letter, a copy of which was exclusively obtained by our correspondent through a dependable source at the UK Home Affairs in London, also disclosed that the British Magistrate who freed Kashamu in 2003 did so when he was not satisfied that there
was a case for him to answer.

The letter added that this was why the United Kingdom authorities had decided to cancel the extradition request they received from the United States Justice Department.

“I understand that the US authorities are seeking his extradition but can confirm that we have no current interest in this matter and he is not wanted in connection with any other offences within our
jurisdiction”, Robert Hunter said in the letter.

In a related development, our correspondent also gathered that the International Police (INTERPOL) had earlier cancelled the arrest warrant it imposed against Buruji Kashamu immediately it
discovered that the US authorities had at the end of August, 2008 withdrawn their own Search Warrant.

But the US is insisting that Kashamu is the same person as Adewale Kashamu wanted by its security agents in connection with
the trafficking of heroine into America for several years up till 1994. The NDLEA had also said that the US had sent a request to
extradite him to face the charges.

If he is innocent, why is he afraid of clearing his name? If his hands are clean, why is he afraid of going to US? If he is sent to US with other senators in official capacity, will he abdicate his duties? If he feels that his he is clean, he should stop all these hide and seek games and clear his name so that he will have integrity. The United States has the biometrics of the man they are looking for. He should go and prove it's not him.

I pray he is vindicated in US too, at least, he's giving back to the society. His 30 trailers of rice(about 18000 bags) to Osun will go a long way. Let those who have one time or the other stolen from government purse give back to the society. Where is Bisi Akande? Oyinlola and thier senators?

Are you say it is okay to commit a crime as long as you give back to the society? We have alot of stealing is not corruption scholars in Nigeria.

It was in the us he committed the crime not UK.The extradition reauest is coming from the US and UK.

i have been following the kashamu case for a while, the offence wasnt committed on american soil.

1.PEOPLE WERE CAUGHT WITH DRUGS IN AMERICA AND THEY CLAIMED A PARTICULAR ALHAJI IN BENIN REPUBLIC SUPPLIED THEM.

2.UNITED STATES.ISSUED A WARRANT OF ARREST FOR THE ALHAJI.

3.KASHAMU TRAVELLED TO U.K DESPITE THE ARREST WARRANT AND HE WAS ARRESTED BY THE U.K GOVERNMENT AND KEPT LOCKED UP FOR SEVEN YEARS.

4. SERIES OF INVESTIGATIONS WERE CARRIED OUT BY THE U.K GOVERNMENT,EVEN.WITH LINEUPS WHERE THE SUSPECTS WERE BROUGHT IN FROM U.K AND FAILED TO POINT OUT KASHAMU.AMERICA ALSO FAILED TO COME UP WITH ENOUGH EVIDENCE.

5.U.K DECIDES THAT AMERICA WAS BIASED IN THEIR INVESTIGATION COS THEY DIDNT REALLY KNOW THE SUPPLIER AND KASHAMU WAS DECLARED A FREE MAN AFTER SEVEN YEARS.

ACCORDING TO OBJ.AND OTHERS THAT HAVE DECIDED TO LABEL KASHAMU A.CRIMINAL,WHY DID THEY TURN BLIND EYES WHEN HE DONATED N300M TO THE OBASANJO LIBRARY FOUNDATION,THEY ALSO TURNED BLIND EYES WHEN THEY USED HIS MONEY TO FUND PDP IN THE SOUTHWEST,THEY USED HIS WEALTH TO THEIR ADVANTAGE AND ALSO SHARPENED HIS TEETH,SO WHY SHOULD THEY COMPLAIN WHEN HE IS NOW USING THE SAME TEETH TO BITE BACK.

THE AMERICAN GOVERNMENT MESSED UP THE WHOLE CASE THE MINUTE THE COULD NOT DIFFERENTIATE BETWEEN ALAHJI THE DRUG BARON,BURUJI KASHAMU OR ESHO JINADU.

The same USA that refused to sell and bar others to sell Ammo to us to fight Boko Haram, cooking up stories of human right abuses by our soldiers is the same USA that Nigeria's NDLEA are just anxious to extradite their citizens to, even when UK had cleared him.

We have had 2 cases that US citizens broke Nigeria's laws in the Harliburton scam and other but the USA did not extradite their citizens to Nigeria. What really baffles me, again is why only Africans are being Prosecuted in the ICC. We are a hunted species because we hate each other. And we will continue with this slave-master relationship since we cant stand for ourselves.

Our selective justice will continue to be our nemesis, we chose to extradite Kashamu but allow Tinubu with a better glaring evidence to walk free.

Wetin be UK own for the matter?UK discharged him in 2003, fine, but the present extradition request is from US (and not UK) for the offence he allegedly committed in US (not in UK), hence I can't see how his discharge in UK exonerates him from the charges against him in US or is US now the same as UK?

Bro, we share almost the same sentiments when it comes to this issue of Kashamu and his extradition request from the US.

With regards to the ICC arrest request on the President of Sudan, I asked the same question: Was the ICC created by the West to only try black leaders?

The blacks have continued to play the slave role with the Whites. Will the US allow one of its citizens to be extradited to another nation, especially an African nation? Of course, NOT.

Our judicial system should seek a way to arraigned and prosecute Kashamu, rather than extradite him to the US.
