1. Jonathan took 6 weeks...even after promising to announce his ministers in two weeks.

2. Jonathan failed to transmit transition documents that would facilitate the appointment of ministers, especially as it's clear some ministries will have to be merged to reduce the cost of governance...

So so far, it doesn't really matter, but by now next month, it will be a problem if they've still not been appointed.

Not true. We did not have ministers in office for 6 weeks after Jonathan was sworn in.

He dissolved the cabinet before May 29th and it is unconstitutional for any minister to serve before being confirmed by the Senate.

Bearing mind the state of the nation when he came me, I think he should have appointed the by now. Another fear am beginning to nurse is that, this delay may give room for unnecessary pressure and distraction. There are power hungry people who may want to bring express their over bearing influence.

Jonathan Assigns Portfolio To 31 Ministers, Creates New Ministries, Redeploys Minister Of Transport

Posted: July 11, 2011 - 21:16

By SaharaReporters, New York

Exactly six weeks after he took office, President Goodluck Jonathan today updated his cabinet to 31 Ministers.  He had vowed he would have the full cabinet, which is expected to be made up of 42 persons, in place in two weeks.

A statement from the office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Mr. Anyim Pius Anyim, also announced changes in the cabinet today, as approved by the president. Among them:

Yusuf Suleman has been moved from the Ministry of Transport to the Sports Commission as Chairman and Minister after he reportedly demanded huge bribes from NIMASA last week. Mr. Suleiman was slated to be dropped from the cabinet but the Sultan of Sokoto reportedly intervened; Idris Umar is now the Minister of Transport;  Navy Captain Caleb Olubolade moves to the Ministry of Police Affairs; Mrs. Olajumoke Akinjide becomes Hononorable Minister of State, FCT; and A new Ministry of Communication Technology.

The government said the new Ministry would be headed by a Minister "who is very versatile in the Information and Communication Technology (ICT), to give it the desired focus in view of the critical importance of ICT in driving a modern economy.". Mr. Jonathan also made Olusegun Aganga, the former finance minister,  the  "Trade and Investment" minister. The new ministry is expected to bring investments into Nigeria.

Jonathan's cabinet is mostly his old cabinet from the previous administration.  His critics question his snail pace as well as lack of courage to bring in a healthy dose of technocrats to generate new ideas and momentum.

While he has preached a so-called "transformational agenda," Jonathan has so far failed the first test of transparency by failing to declare his assets or generate an offensive against corruption, Nigeria's perennial enemy.  Indeed, cracks may already have begun to appear in the fabric of his government, as the Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Mohammed B. Adoke, declared during his screening at the Senate that the anti-corruption agencies do not properly understand their their statutory mandates, and that they lack the capacity to investigate and prosecute economic crimes.  But it is to those agencies that Jonathan pledged to hand his war against corruption.

The updated cabinet is as follows:

GEJ sent the list to the NASS long before the six weeks you are making reference to.

if we voted in change become we needed it, we shouldn't be comparing GEJ administration with that of PMB. We should be seeing a clear cut difference. I don't like his laid back approach at all. people are using his body language and silence to access him. in no time he will loose the good will of the masses the same way GEJ did.

Whatever he is doing now may not help him unless it is spot on.

1. Read my second point, the change was delayed by Jonathan's deliberate non-transmission of vital documents, the review took two weeks by the Joda committee and PMB got the report just last Friday.

2. The list was sent after 4 weeks, Nigeria did not have any minister till after 6 weeks. This is PMB's 3rd week so chill.

Am sure you are one of those that called GEJ clueless, now using GEJ actions to justify PMB action isn't that hypocrisy

I thought we nigerians voted for "CHANGE" how come the same change mongers are using the "CLUELESS" administration as a template/yardstick for their actions

It beats my imagination when we see those that champion the "Clueless" tag on social media turn and use the same GEJ administration they attacked so much as a yardstick...

If we voted for change, then change we should see and not the same thing nigerians voted out...

You're the hypocrites, criticising PMB after barely 2 weeks when your master failed to swear in ministers till 6 weeks after inauguration.

Don't think it's criticism, the expectations were so high and the APC promised to hit the ground running, added to the fact that they had extra 60 days pre handover to prepare.

I don't Believe Nigerians are asking for too much they are just asking for what they were promised
