The Kano State Government has budgeted N220m for the implementation of the Ramadan free feeding programme in the state.

The Chairman, Committee on Ramadan Free Feeding Programme, Alhaji Usman Bala, who said this in Kano on Thursday, explained that the state government had concluded arrangements for the commencement of the free feeding from Wednesday.

Bala, who is the Principal Private Secretary to Governor Abdullahi Ganduje, also said that the state government had increased the number of feeding centres from 120 to 175 and that the centres had since been provided with the necessary food items.

He said, “The food items, which include rice, beans, millet, flour, cooking oil and dates, among others have been provided at each of the centres. Each centre will have a five-man coordinating committee in addition to six cooks, who are saddled with the responsibility of preparing the meal.

“We also engaged the services of some sanitary inspectors, who will always ensure that the environment is clean and tidy.”

Nigeria and religion. That is how we spend billions daily on pilgrimage to Jerusalem and Mecca. After the fasting hope there will be concrete projects that will alleviate poverty. I don't support all this spending on religion that is unsustainable. It is best the politicians invite the poor and fellow muslims into their individual homes and feed them than using public funds.
