Down Syndrome, Autism....let's Discuss by forlahkhe: 12:08pm On Jun 23, 2015 |
I remember dt wen I was pregnant, mum would caution me not to walk in sun or @ late night w.out having safety PIN attached to my cloth.....my granma even suggested that I tie stone to my cloth so I won't giv birth to autistic children. Some pple would say a pregnant woman shd not sit wit her leg spread apart because the baby wld resemble anybody that crosses over the pregnant woman's leg....pls could it be true dt those that gave birth to children with down syndrome violated any of this rules?? *wondering* |

Nope, those as superstitions. Downs syndrome is a chromosomonal disorder, and autism is a mental condition. So, whatever your mom or grandmum told you is nothing but old wives tale. |

forlahkhe:There is no known cause for autism but speculation has it dat it can be hereditary, it can be caused by vaccines, it can be caused by mercury and lead. It cannot be prevented it can only be managed. |

Well uhm, Costlyb and Angieberry hv given u good and correct answers... But being autistic, in as much as it's a disorder, can be a blessing too coz some autistic cases I've studied shows how exceptionally brilliant autistic persons can be... Take 4 instance, Kim peek (the rain man). Some odas show remarkable ingenuity in Arts. Some hv their memory functioning at superhuman levels and some odas hv a highly developed spatial recognition skill. It goes on and on... So parents wit autistic kids shud watch out 4 d specific interests of dese kids coz they mite prove prodigious in certain areas in d end (since autistic patients are normally preoccupied with a narrow range of subjects or activities and often have a limited range of interests) P.S: Check out d korean medical series, 'GOOD DOCTOR' *Smiles 3 Likes |
