Governors of the 36 states have advised President Muhammadu Buhari to share the tax of the Nigeria Liquefied Natural Gas (NLNG) to resolve the financial crisis facing them. Over 20 states are currently unable to pay salaries as a result of a sharp fall in oil revenue. “Instead of NLNG paying $1.6 billion to the federal government, we requested that it be paid to the federation account so that it could be shared amongst the three tiers of government, so that we can also get money to do one or two things,” Abdulazeez Yari, governor of Zamfara state and chairman of the Nigerian governors forum, said at the end of a meeting with Buhari on Tuesday. “We proposed to Mr. President that instead of being given bail out, that the funds for jobs, projects that were done by the states should be refunded by the federal government. If the affected states can get the refund, they can start paying salaries without bail out. “Secondly, we also brought to his notice that most of the loans owed by the state, some between four and seven years, if it can be stretched to 20 years, the states will be relieved and would be able to continue other businesses including paying salaries. “Also, we urged the president to follow the constitution when it comes to money sharing. Section 80 is very clear. That all monies should go to the Consolidated Revenue Account for the purpose, no account should be kept anywhere because this is what the constitution says. “And Section 162 also is self-explanatory, that whatever is going to happen to the money will be after sharing to the three tiers of government. That the NNPC or any other revenue generating agency should not have the first line charges.” Apart from the governors of Bayelsa and Plateau states, who were represented at the meeting, the other 34 governors attended. http://www.thecable.ng/govs-ask-pmb-share-nlng-tax Over 20 states never pay salaries as a result of a sharp fall in oil revenue I thought it is only Osun state ooo 1 Like |

SLIDEwaxie: bro what you don't understand is that civil war will work in the interest of biafra, the international community will not let the same conflict to happen a third time and the geographical entity is left the same way. . . if a war starts now, it wouldn't take months for the international body to facilitate a divided Nigeria. The east is not even ready for such violence but seriously speaking if the igbos really need biafra, all they need do now is to start a war and that is it... 2 Likes |

This is how Amaechi and co insisted that excess crude oil funds should be shared only to turn around and accuse GEJ of depleting the national treasury. Where in the world do people ''chop'' everything they earn? Make una chop am finish o. Jegudujera people. By the way, where is the 1.6 Billion USD coming from since GEJ already took all the money to Otuoke? 11 Likes |

These set of c.razy parasites are at it again. they were always asking GEJ to share everything with them which was one of the major headache Okonjo Iweala had in increasing our foreign reserves during the era of oil boom. They never listened to her or GEJ until they ended up depleting our reserves without any thing to show for it in their respective states except for the backlog of unpaid salaries and pensions. 3 Likes |

with all these financial problems, Law makers are still requesting for jumbo package. This system of government where states can not even pay salaries of civil servants from IGR is unsustainable. even with all these, groups are still agitating for creation of states |

I hate to comment, but i find it pathetic, that there are loads of Dullards here calling someone else a dullard. Simple Essay they cannot comprehend. Buhari says the treasury is empty, the money they are talking about, is money that is yet to be collected, or in process of being collected. “Instead of NLNG paying $1.6 billion to the federal government, we requested that it be paid to the federation account so that it could be shared amongst the three tiers of government People love to believe what they want to, these same people know that if Jonathan was there, the looting would have continued and there would be no real progress. I saw someone comment about the oil being from the eastern part. We are so deluded that we can't read between the lines. I am an Igbo Man, and the truth be told that the oil belongs to the NIGER DELTA. there is no way they would let you lump them as BIAFRA, they would prefer to stand on their own. 10 Likes 2 Shares |

The only way to stop these governors from creating financial problems in the country is by making a strong legislation on the rate at which they borrow. Imagine a governor begging that federal govt should allow them to pay money borrowed the last 4-7 years in 20 years. For now, even if the federal government empties her pocket and give to state governors , majority of the money with be used in paying back debts obtained initially for looting sake. Osun state is a good sample of this where the governor is virtually owing everyone and everything ! 1 Like |
