@ Everyone

Got more gist from my brother and decided to share it before i forget the gist.He said when he got there, there were only two officers attending to everyone and the first officer was just rejecting people anyhow and the only people he gave visas too were few of the people that wanted to renew their visas.

He said the other guy(officer) was quite gentle but reject people with obivious flaws.He said he was praying to get the gentle guy's cubicle but got the aggressive guy's cubicle.He said he was just praying in his heart that the guy shouldnt deny him too.He want to the cubicle and the following happened;

Consular officer: Let me have ur passport and application forms.
Bro: Here there are.

Consular officer: Why did you choose this school?
Bro: The school's ----- course goes in depth in ----- an area i would like to specialise in.

Consular Officer: How did you get to know about the school?
Bro: Through research on the internet and also with the help of my lecturer in school. Dr.----,we resaerch online together and he advised me to choose this scool because of research in this---- area.(by this he brought out a letter from the lecturer in school that states that the course will be relevant to industries in nigeria and that my bro was an excellent student during his undergraduate studies ).

Consular: Can i see your GRE test results?(he had about 1100),
Bro: Here it is,

Consular: I can see that you have low scores in your verbal can i see your TOEFL, (100/120)
Bro: Here is my TOEFL score report,

Consular:, ok index finger on the scanner please
Bro: O.k(puts finger on scanner)

Consular: O.k

Consular: So how will this course be beneficiary to you?
Bro: I could work in manufacturing industries, oil and gas companies because this course is highly needed in these places and it will help me get to the top of my career easily.

Consular: What do you plan to do after your studies?
Bro: I plan to come back to nogeria and make use of the education, knowlegde and skills i have gathered from my studies to better use here as there is alot of competition in this field in the USA, whereas the course will be highly appreciated here in nigeria.

Consular: So right now i going to ask you to come back on monday for your passpoirt.   .    .take this(green ticket) for the collection of your passport.
Bro: O.k, Thank you.(collects ticket )

Consular: good luck and All the best in your program.
Bro: Thank you.(walks away)

Whao!!!! You can see that the officer didnt ask for bank statements or house documents etc.  .  .  .  . .

He said just make sure you speak out loud, show some confidence and smile sweetly.

I want to thank everyone that contributed to this forum!!! You guys are the best.  .   .  .  !!! kiss

I know we will all have success stories.  .  .  .!!

@Asil….
Yea, Hopkins is the best medical school in USA. It’s in Maryland right? Good advice! God’s time is the best, if you know that your school would have resumed before you will go for interview, please, don’t go. Because I could guarantee that the percent of getting Visa is much lower than denying. But if you have gotten your Visa even a day before school resumption, you can even leave three weeks after school resumption. First of all, you can lie at port of entry that you were sick. Secondly, they know during the summer time it’s always difficult to get a flight ticket within short period of time that you got your Visa and to travel.
Then, most USA schools always resume in August excepts for some schools that resume early September. So you have this July to do all your processing, if you wait the August, I bet you embassy would have closed down their website for students’ application appointment for fall admission.
If you can get ready before August for embassy or at most August, and you before that date you would have booked your appointment. Anything later than that, don’t hesitate to postpone to spring admission; which means you have to go back to embassy after 6 months.

As per your brother, you can use him too. Because I have seen siblings made with it that way too.
Then, with John Hopkins I-20 to embassy, you have 120% chances to get your Visa. Just like you took Harvard I-20 for business school or MIT I-20 for Engineering. And Embassies respect these schools, because they know before you have their I-20s, you must be sound and financially stable.

@ house, congrats to the guys that just got their visa and thank God for His favours, i'm believing that in 2wks i shall share my good news too by the grace of God.

Please I have two I-20forms, do u guys know if the embassy will have a prior knowledge of this? Just to make things easier i was thinking I'd just stick to having one I-20, coz the 2nd one may generate more questions i.e why leave the best school for my course for a just good school.More details of this gist are in my last post please read and reply, thanks.

Why do you guys like making life difficult? If you have 1 billion I-20's, thats your cup of tea. It doesn't concern the embassy.
You are allowed to apply to as many schools as you want. Na your application fee dem go just they chop.
Pick up the school you want, pay ur sevis fee, and go for your interview. Chikena.
If they ask you how many schools you applied to, tell them. Nobody applies to one school. Even straight A students apply to at least 3 schools .
Why on earth would you want to take an additional I-20 to the embassy.
Do not, I repeat, do not take anything that you don't need to the embassy.

To give you a straight answer, the embassy officials have no information whatsover on you until you appear for your interview. What they know is what you've presented in your forms and documents. The only time they will dig up your profile is if your application is supscious or is on their watch list and they need to run your info through DHS.

@asil
U dont need to be confused.choose a sch's I-20 form, pay for ur SEVIS(which u need d 'N' number on ur I-20 to fill & submit d payment)& select a date for ur visa appointment.U dnt need to complicate issues by taken two I-20 forms to the embassy but you can if u are ready to let them know why you chose one school over the other.

But looking at it again, takin d two I-20 forms could prove that you are well-sorted-after student with good results.

Whatever you do,know how you want to handle whichever decision you make on the forms.

All the best!

@ rachiwise, ur answer was close, i've settled for one I-20 form already and i'm clearer on the embassy's prior knowledge issue.Thanks.

Terrible advice. If you do so, your chance of a denial is ~99%. Two I-20's to the embassy only shows that you are Indecisive.
Virtually every international student has at least two I-20's so that does not help in anyway. If you take the 2 forms you WILL be denied.

Makes no difference. Even if you've been to the US before, they don't check or run your application data before you get to the embassy. Everything is done after you submit your documents.

Thanks for calling my advice terrible.for ur info,u can only have one school written on ur visa applcation forms. And the other I-20 forms is only to be shown if & when you are asked if you were admitted in any other schools and then it is left to u to answer truthfully & or not.so only when u are asked for the other schools' I-20 forms u can show them.

So asil,it's up to you, if u want to tel them u were admitted in other schs, take along the I-20 forms if nt dont.

Cheers!

I think you guys are both right, but i kinda subscribe more to a-towns suggestions.

Why take 2 1-20s to the embassy?it shows indecisiveness and might result in refusal, depending on the consular.

@ rachy, congrats again on ur bro,i am happy for him.

Thanks dear & i knw yours is on the way soon.

While i dont know if you guys made research on the I-20 form thing i did& i found out that they do ask you d schs that admitted u(though my bro wasnt) &it's left to you to say the truth or lie.then u can be told to show the other I-20 forms or nt even asked at all.so either way that cant stand in ur way of gettin d visa. . .at least i cant imagine anyone going to ask d visa officer which sch is d best for him/her to attend.

The issue of indecision should even arise at d embassy, rather find good points to support y chose a particular sch.

Cheers!

Hope you were not offended by my use of the word "terrible". I only used it to signify the error involved. It was not a personal attack.
My statements and advice on here are based on the fact that i went through this process several thousand years back. Been there done that!!
If the embassy asks you if you were admitted to any other school, there is no need to lie. Tell them. They are not supposed to/required to ask you about your other I-20's. They don't expect you to bring any other I-20 besides the school you accepted.
The only time the officials sway away from the basic questions is when they are not sure about issuing you a visa.
Ideally, it is non of their business if you got admitted to segun obasanjo university in toronto.
For example, there are people who talk about NYSC discharge certificates. It is not the embassys business. If they ask you about it, it's probably cos you mentioned it or they have no intention of issueing u a visa so they start asking unnecessary questions.

Remember, take only what you need. Be precise with your answers.
Here are my list of red flags for prospect visa applicants.
1. If your sponsors are not your parents, they will likely scrutinize you more.
2. If you are going for undergraduate studies and you are over 21yrs
3. If you are going for a graduate program that has no significance whatsover to your undergrad or potential job market in Nigeria.
4. If you have siblings already in the U.S. If you have 2 or more siblings that graduated and went on to file for the H-1 visa, they will worry you.
Chances are that they won't give you a visa cos ur siblings already proved that you are all intended immigrants.
5. If you are the last child in your family and your siblings are all in school in the US. They will worry you because they'll wonder why your parents
want to let all of you leave the country.

Lastly, the interviewer is just a regular human being. If your documents are intact and you don't have red flags, ur chances are 99% .
The interviewer is just there to weed out bad eggs. They know Nigerians use student visas to travel and don't even visit the school for a single day.

just to add to the replies above concerning i20 and no i20. i believe you the applicant know the sch u want to attend. to me, taking two i20s will be like 'oga consul, help me choose'. grin cheesy grin
by the way, you can only pay one sevis using only 1 i20 so the question of two i20s shouldnt arise. perharps asil is yet to make up her mind. i also have admission to an ivy league sch, but am not attending due to financial stufz cry , so i did not bother sending bank statement to the for i20 preparation.
then as a poster said, lets not make life difficult for ourselfs, present whatever doc u r asked for and hide the rest.

Let us take time to read posted comments well before replying, not giving preformed answers , I had already settled for a I-20 and was thinking of keeping mute on the admission and I-20 of the other, just wanted to know if they may have prior knowledge at embassy. Thank God I finally got the ans. U guys should keep up this gud work, u're all appreciated. Happy weekend.

@ Kunleweb: SEVIS FEE PAYMENT RESPONSE.
I think d best way 4 u 2 make ur SEVIS PAYMENT is to pay thru WESTERN UNION QUICK PAY, but unfortunatley that mtd of payment is not applicable in Nigeria, Ghana, Kenya and Cameron.
So you might have to travel to Cotonou in Benin Republic to make the payment. I made my payment in Cotonou, through one of the ECOBANK branches, and guess what, it is not in all the branches of ECOBANK that you can do that!!!
If u check the fmj website, even the list of the Western Union Quick Pay agents is not updated as I had to keep looking for the branches of Banque Atlantique in Cotonou as listed on the fmj website, but unfortunatley in the those branches, their system didnt recognise th US BANK DHS name. I was eventually directed to a particular branch of ECOBANK where fortunately the guy who collects the SEVIS fees speaks English n it was so easy to make d payment and in less than 48hours my receipt was online n I printed it.
I have two friends who went to Cotonou to make their payment just this past week. If you want, I can give you the ECOBANK number so you talk to the guy. Once you get to Seme Border, take a taxi to Toppa market (It is a major market) n from there u can call the guy to tell u which bike to take to his branch cos I dont remember very well the name whether Ecobank Garfi or Darki Branch. d guy speaks a fair amount of English, just tell him in light English that u wan to pay SEVIS fee n u r from Nigeria. Let me know ur take then I can mail you his name n phone number if u want.
Goodluck.
