Politics / 5 Reasons Why Nigerian Senate May Impeach President Muhammadu Buhari by 240naija(m): 7:32am On Jul 14, 2016
This is a list of probable reasons why President Buhari could be untimely shown the exit door from the corridors of power by the Nigerian senate of the 8th assembly.

President Muhammadu Buhari

No Nigerian President or Head of state has ever been impeached, President Muhammadu Buhari may be the first to walk down that lonely road. Since his inauguration in office, President Buhari has become bent on poking the bear. The President seems to be at war at every front, some would say, ''He's not interested in completing his term''.

An army of powerful men from the President's own political party - the All Progressives Congress, APC and the opposition - the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP may be forced to gang up and teach the President a major lesson ''this is democracy not military rule. Chief amongst those who may want the President out are Nigerian senators.

The President has been fingered in the many crisis that have rocked the 8th Senate.

On Tuesday, 12th June, Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe during an executive session openly suggested that President Buhari should be impeached. Here are 5 reasons why the Senate may impeach President Buhari :

1. To save Senate President Bukola Saraki

Since Saraki became President of the senate against the wish of his party there have been multiple attempts to remove him. Today, the Senate President is one of the most embattled politicians in Nigeria. His troubles seem to have no regard for his position as Nigeria's Number three [3] citizen. In country like Nigeria, who else can trouble the Number 3 man except the numbers 1 and 2 men?

2. Northernization of Nigeria

Alot of high ranking Nigerians believe that President Muhammadu Buhari is on a mission to northernize Nigeria. His political appointments have raised major questions about the country's unity. More regions are crying for restructuring of the country. The President is fast losing even the support of Northern Senators some of whom have openly admitted that his appointments have been biased.

3. Disregard for the Senate

''it's time to call a spade a spade and the Nigerian Senate and Legislature deserves to be respected", Senator Biodun Olujimi cried out on Tuesday 12th, July. The outcry cry was caused by a recent remark by President Buhari's highest ranking appointee SGF Babachir Lawal on the National Confab and Intervention Projects.

Buhari and his appointees have shown gross disregard for the Nigerian senate and the Senators are getting tired of being disrespected. They want a President who respects their position.

4. To save their own seats

The Nigerian economy is sinking and the common man on the street is getting more dissatisfied by the day. Most people on the streets blame President Buhari for the hardship. People are increasingly dissatisfied that the President is ''fighting corruption'' while allowing his people to starve. When the Nigerian populace turn against their Senators, President Buhari may become a scapegoat.

5. Handling of 2016 Budget

Over the years, there have been rumours of major budget padding. Nigerian Senators allegedly extort the executive before any budget is passed. The 2016 budget was almost passed in the same way until stories of budget padding leaked to the press. The presidency quickly distanced itself from the misconduct and went on to submit different versions of the budget which were allegedly de-padded to the National assembly.

Without sharp practices like budget padding most senators will never recover their campaign funds. Renowned for their selfish ways, President Buhari may have to go so that Senators can recoup their lost monies.

Culture / 8 Disgusting Habits Displayed By Nigerians When They Return From Abroad by 240naija(m): 8:16pm On Jun 07, 2016
A Nigerian has shared his candid opinion of the antic of abroad returnees who tend to belittle people when they visit their home countries.

Some Nigerians, when they return from abroad often display some nasty and childish habits when they return home, and these silly and childish attitudes are enlisted below;

1. Unnecessary use of foreign accent to intimidate local people:

When some Nigerians living abroad return home, they begin to use these foreign accents to create unwanted scenes. They do this to show people that they are not of the same class. A times when you tell them, you can't understand their statement, they will say "Are u deaf"? The ones that annoy me most are those based in Cotonou, Ghana, Uganda, China forming British accent. Honestly these ones need serious psychiatric evaluation.

2. High level of pride:

Living abroad is not a guarantee that one will be richer than Dangote or Mike Adenuga so why the over-bloated ego? Some will even make it look like they're doing you a favour talking to you. This is common with the ladies.

3. Unnecessary show off:

I know of some Nigerians who have lived their whole life abroad and are still able to be casual. But for some, they will wear socks and jacket under the intense sun and will be screaming to people's hearing that they regret coming to Nigeria.

4. They condemn our local dish:

When a friend of mine returned from Canada, he told me to take him to a restaurant because he went hungry and I was elated he still has passion for our local dish. I took him to one fascinating local restaurant at Ibadan. When they served us pounded yam/egusi soup complimented with all sorts of assorted bush meats. Instead of eating the meal, he walked out from the restaurant telling me he couldn't eat that sh*t . Honestly, I was embarrassed by his comment.

5. They demand for undue respect:

Some of them are so proud that they will give you this proud look because they feel you want to beg pounds or dollars from them. I really don't blame them, after all it is what they experience often when they visit home as friends, family and even enemies want to benefit from their pocket.

6. Hotel becomes their home:

I know most of them prefer lodging in a hotel because they are scared of mosquito bite, non availability of light and other negative factors in their parents' house. Though I wouldn't call this a silly act but I feel staying in your parents' house especially when located in the village will attract more parental blessing.

7. They neglect their old friends:

This is common to some abroad based Nigerians. They tend to ignore the friends they left in Nigeria because they feel they have climbed the ladder of greatness. Last year, a very good friend of mine arrived from the UK and what surprised me most was that he refused to come to my house after a week of arrival. I used my church mind to go to his place and he started acting like I came to beg for money. This silly attitude of common with some of them.

8. They condemn our culture and values:

It's a pity that some Nigerians are so engrossed with the westerner culture that they view African culture as being fetish and archaic when they returned home. For them to prostrate for elders and even their parents is like displaying stupidity act. This is nothing but outright nonsense.

Romance / Ladies, Run Away Fast! These Are 10 Warning Signs Of A Womanizer You Must Avoid by 240naija(m): 8:00pm On Jun 07, 2016
Real men who can truly love a woman do exist but they are hard to find but these are signs to watch out for in a serial womaniser.

Many of us are still looking for The One – the guy we will spend the rest of our lives with. Our soul mate who will be there for us all the time, loving us, comforting us, sharing moments with us and protecting us.

Finding the one guy that is perfect for you is not easy, and many of us are scared of making the same dating mistakes over again. Many of us have dated the creeps, the losers, the lazies, the crazies, the overly sickly sweets, the FIFA players, the machos, the mommies boys, and the over achievers who we can’t keep up with. But what about the one type of man we all fear the most, The Womanizer?

The womanizer is a man who isn’t ready to settle down yet, but he’ll do anything to convince you that he is. He’ll tell you you’re the love of your life and that you’ve got great eyes, great legs and great everything.

But how do you know when you’ve got a womanizer on your hands and not the genuine article? Let’s take a look at the top 10 warning signs of a womanizer.

1. He Gets Your Name Wrong

Yesterday you were Rita, today you’re Lisa and tomorrow you’ll be Priscilla. Sure, he says he’s got fifteen aunties and five different moms but you should know deep down that he’s actually got too many single ladies in his life.

2. He’s Super Vain

For a lot of women, having a great sense of humour is the first trait we look for in a prospective partner. But if a man is a womanizer, it’s highly likely that his sense of humour cuts dead as soon as you touch his immaculate hair.

Don’t try to touch his suits either because they cost a bomb.

“Please tell me you did not just put my dry-clean only suit in the wash? I. MIGHT. DIE.”

3. He Never Lives Up To His Word

We’ve all felt a rush of blood to our heads as our man tells us what he’s going to do for us. He’s going to take us away for a romantic weekend, introduced us to his family, and basically capture the moon for us.

It all sounds so exciting and we instantly buy into his dream. His words have swept us off our feet.

After a few weeks and months, though, he still hasn’t made good on his word. You’ve still not been away for a weekend together (as a matter of fact, he seems to spend most of his weekends away on his own), and you haven’t even met his family. Is this guy for real and are his endless list of excuses just a cover-up? You bet!

4. He Has A Reputation

If women have come up to you or messaged you on Facebook that your new man has got a reputation, you shouldn’t swiftly dismiss this accusations as manifestations of jealousy. Instead, you should hear them out and make up your own mind.

5. He Only Seems To Appear Later At Night

From my experience, this is the biggest tell-tale sign of them all that you’ve got a perennial womanizer on your hands.

Your man should be available day and night, and not just “any time after ten PM.” It just isn’t good enough that he only makes a cameo appearance when the sun has set. Sure, he tells you that he’s been working late or whatnot, but you know deep down that something just doesn’t seem right here.

A man who isn’t a womanizer will want to see you at all times, and not at the witching hour only.

6. When He Compliments You All The Time

They say that when a guy compliments us too much it usually means they’re feeling guilty about something, or they’ve got something to hide.

Sometimes, guys will shower us with compliments whenever they’re feeling good about something – such as a spot of womanising.

When a man looks into your eyes and tells you how beautiful you are, it’s sincere and genuine.

But when he’s hyper and won’t stop covering you with compliments about your eyes, your legs, your hair, your bum et cetera, you should be on your guard.

7. He Moves Really Fast

You haven’t even introduced yourself and he already wants to buy a house with you and have all your babies. Red flag.

8. He Locks His Phone

We all locked our phones when we were kids (still no idea why), but no normal adult does this in 2016.

Except womanizers, of course.

If you notice that his phone is constantly buzzing and he’s always texting someone, it’s a pretty big warning sign. But if he also locks his phone so that you can never access it, it’s a full on red-alert that he’s not the man for you.

9. He Doesn’t Call Back For Ages

You’ve just had a great night with him that you both seemed to enjoy. You had a laugh, some dinner and a bit of romance. It went so well.

But then he doesn’t return your call for days afterwards. What gives?

Eventually, of course, he will return and say that he was busy or something equally empty. He’ll want another giggle, some more dinner and a bit more romance again.

Take all this as a warning sign. He only wants you when he’s got a few needs to fulfil. Once they’ve been taken care of, he’s off to look for other adventures.

10.He Flirts On Social Media

Facebook is often a great place to find out whether or not your man is a womanizer. If he isn’t a womanizer, his photos and comments will be totally normal and respectful. There might be pictures of him enjoying a drink with the lads, and maybe one or two of his mom.

If, however, he can’t get enough of the opposite sex, you can expect to see lots of photos of him on regular nights out with lots of different girls. You’ll also notice flirty comments and invitations to hang out with all kinds of women you’ve never heard of before. No matter how much he tells you he loves you, it’s clear that he can’t control his appetite for girls.

Politics / Assembly Crisis: Reps Summon Kogi Gov, Chief Of Army Staff by 240naija(m): 6:09pm On Jun 07, 2016
The House of Representatives on Tuesday summoned the Governor of Kogi State, Mr. Yahaya Bello, over the festering leadership crisis in the state House of Assembly.

It accused the governor of encouraging five out of the 25-member legislature to continue sitting, defying a resolution of the National Assembly in which it assumed control of the state assembly.

The group of five recently passed the 2016 Appropriation Bill of the state and also approved the nominees for commissioners and special advisers for Bello “illegally.”

The governor is to appear along with the Chief of Army Staff, Lt-Gen. Tukur Buratai, before a panel constituted by the Speaker, Mr. Yakubu Dogara.

The panel is chaired by the Leader of the House, and member of the All Progressives Congress from Lagos State, Mr. Femi Gbajabiamila.

Buratai was dragged into the matter following reports that Bello allegedly secured the services of soldiers to give protection to five members to continue to sit and make laws for the state.

Lawmakers also pointed out that an Abuja Federal High Court on May 19, “nullified the purported” impeachment of the Speaker of the House, Mr. Momoh Jimoh-Lawal.

Jimoh-Lawal’s impeachment had triggered the crisis, which had seen the National Assembly jointly passing a resolution in March to assume control of the state assembly in compliance with Section 11(4) of the 1999 Constitution ( as amended).

Tuesday’s decision of the House to summon Bello and Buratai came after a motion of urgent national importance moved by a member from Enugu State, Mr. Chukwuemeka Ujam.

It was a session where angry Reps also threatened to initiate impeachment proceedings against Bello.

One angry member from Gombe State, Mr. Ali Isa, argued, “We can begin a process to impeach the governor. Before law as it stands today, the National Assembly is the legislative House of Kogi State.”

Ujam mentioned instances of what he termed, “illegality and impunity” in the state beginning from May 31.

He stated that on May 31, masked armed men reportedly invaded the legislative quarters in Lokoja, “shooting into the air and causing pandemonium in an attempt to either assassinate the G-15 members of the Kogi State House of Assembly or intimidate them from carrying out their legislative functions.”

Ujam added, “The House is aware that the armed military men were alleged to be officers of the Nigerian Army led by one Captain Usman from Nigerian Army Records, Lokoja in company with the Chief Security Detail and escorts of the governor.

Celebrities / Why I Am Still Single In 2016 - Actor Osita Iheme 'pawpaw' Makes Interesting Com by 240naija(m): 9:53pm On May 31, 2016
Popular Nollywood actor, Osita Iheme, who is renowned for his numerous comic roles, has opened up on why he has remained unmarried.

Osita Iheme

Osita Iheme, who is known all over Nigeria as PawPaw, has responded to allegations that he and his ‘twin’ in the industry, Chinedu Ikedieze alias Aki, are having some misunderstanding which sprung up after the latter got married, even as he addressed the issue of his continuous state of bachelorhood.

The actor is still enjoying life as a bachelor when colleague and close friend, Chinedu Ikedieze, also known as Aki, has been married for over six years. There had been speculations that the duo are at loggerheads as they haven’t been seen together in movies and social gatherings ‘as usual’.

Denying the reports, the Imo state-born pint sized actor told the Sun, “There is nothing really going on between us. There is no movie to feature both of us so we have been doing our stuff separately. If any producer wants us together in his movie, then we shall do it as usual.”

When asked why he is still enjoying life as a bachelor when Aki has been married for over six years, Pawpaw said he was taking his time.

He said, “Marriage is not a step to be taken because other people are taking it.

“Even if the person is your twin, you don’t have to do it just because he did it. It is something you do when you are ready. I’ll take that step when I’m fully ready,” the 33-year-old comic actor stated.
Politics / Revealed! The Notable Differences Between Jonathan And Buhari's Subsidy Removal by 240naija(m): 7:45pm On May 27, 2016
A concerned Nigerian has shared on a popular online Nigerian forum the major differences between the removal of fuel subsidy under the present and past administration.

President Muhammadu Buhari and former President, Goodluck Jonathan

The current removal of fuel subsidy under President Muhammadu Buhari has forced business and political analysts in Nigeria to look back at the past which entail the fail removal of the subsidy under former president Goodluck Ebele Jonathan on the Ist of January, 2012 which almost threw Nigeria in turmoil and comotion.
Read the major highlights below as written by the concerned Nigerian:

Subsidy Removal under Goodluck Ebele Jonathan

Jonathan's government announced the total removal of subsidy on Jan 1 2012.

The facts:

1. Oil sold at 113 USD per barrel as at Dec 31st 2011

2. The exchange rate as at Dec 2011 was 1 USD to N 162.3

3. Jonathan's predecessor actually dropped PMS price from N75 to N65 and was able to sustain subsidy whilst handling the amnesty program for repentant millitants till his early demise.

4. A more bouyant foreign reserve and growing economy.

The government's major basis of total removal of subsidy was sighted as massive corruption. Rather than deal with the monster, the incompetence of the government was shifted to the masses. Many Nigerians were not ready to make the government have more money to loot, as subsidy was still sustainable at that time.

After the Occupy Nigieria protests, the price of PMS was revised to N97 per littre, with the promise of urban busses, building and rehabilitation of refineries e.t.c. It is interesting to note that the only partially successful programme after the subsidy removal was SURE-P because some Nigeirans benefitted from it without the "u must know someone" clause. Till the exit of Jonathan's government, we had no functional refineries, neither were new ones built.

Please note, Boko Haram was more like rag tag millitant as at the time of subsidy removal but later grew to a sophisticated, machine guns, tanks rolling millitant. So BH as an excuse is not tenable.

Subsidy removal under President Muhammadu Buhari

1. Oil price selling below 44 USD per barrel

2. Exchange rate of N197-N199 to a dollar and N320 to a dollar in the parallel market.

3. An ailing economy, with limited FOREX, and dwindling reserves.

The major reason for the total removal of subsidy by the current government is because of scarcity of Forex and an ailing economy. NNPC could not sustain solely importing petroleum products, and there is not enough Forex to give major oil marketers to handle the importation of petroleum products. It should also be noted that the present government have been able to tackle corruption to a fault in the oil industry.

The oil Marketters have now been given the liberty to source forex from other sources to import fuel which is the major reason for the high price hike.

The current government have made moves which will see the price of PMS drop in the nearest future. For the first time in years we have the Warri, Kaduna, and Port Harcourt refineries working together but some misguided youths and miscreants in the name of avengers have decided to keep sabotaging the efforts of the present government.
There are also moves on ground to build more refineries.

In my opinion, the deregulation of the lower stream sector is right on track at this time and I stand with Buhari on this.

For now, I see no reason why this government should not be supported, as they still have more than 2 years to deliver. Should the government not meet up to expectations before next elections, then Nigerians can take their anger to the polls.

God Bless Nigeria.

“At this moment, Taiwan’s situation is very difficult,” said Tsai in her inauguration speech. “I invite every fellow citizen to carry the future of this country.”
“Taiwan has been a model citizen in global civil society,” Tsai told the 20,000 capacity crowd, “Since our democratization, we have persisted in upholding the universal values of peace, freedom, democracy and human rights.”
