Texas Governor Takes Immediate Action Against Same-sex Ruling… This Is HUGE by impetus: 1:35pm On Jul 03, 2015
‘constitutional right’, one state is fighting back- TEXAS!

Texas Governor Greg Abbott has issued a directive to all state agencies orders all state agency heads to respect and preserve the religious liberties and First Amendment rights of all Texans. In other words, he just shut down same-sex marriage in Texas and ordered everyone to preserve the religious liberties and First Amendment rights of all Texans. (H/T Conservative Post)

Governor Greg Abbott today released the following statement regarding the Supreme Court’s same-sex marriage ruling:

“The Supreme Court has abandoned its role as an impartial judicial arbiter and has become an unelected nine-member legislature. Five Justices on the Supreme Court have imposed on the entire country their personal views on an issue that the Constitution and the Court’s previous decisions reserve to the people of the States.

“Despite the Supreme Court’s rulings, Texans’ fundamental right to religious liberty remains protected. No Texan is required by the Supreme Court’s decision to act contrary to his or her religious beliefs regarding marriage.

“The Texas Constitution guarantees that ‘[n]o human authority ought, in any case whatsoever, to control or interfere with the rights of conscience in matters of religion.’ The First Amendment of the U.S. Constitution guarantees the free exercise of religion; and the Texas Religious Freedom Restoration Act, combined with the newly enacted Pastor Protection Act, provide robust legal protections to Texans whose faith commands them to adhere to the traditional understanding of marriage.

“As I have done in the past, I will continue to defend the religious liberties of all Texans—including those whose conscience dictates that marriage is only the union of one man and one woman. Later today, I will be issuing a directive to state agencies instructing them to prioritize the protection of Texans’ religious liberties.”

And from Breitbart:

“Texans of all faiths must be absolutely secure in the knowledge that their religious freedom is beyond the reach of government,” Governor Abbott wrote in the memorandum obtained by Breitbart Texas. “Renewing and reinforcing that promise is all the more important in light of the Supreme Court’s decision in Obergefell v. Hodges. The government must never pressure a person to abandon or violate his or her sincerely held religious beliefs regarding a topic such as marriage. That sort of religious coercion will never be a ‘compelling governmental interest,’ and it will never be ‘the least restrictive means of furthering that interest.’”

“With these obligations in mind,” Abbott continued, “I expect all agencies under my direction to prioritize compliance with the First Amendment to the United States Constitution, Article I of the Texas Constitution, and the Texas Religious Freedom Restoration Act. All state agency heads should ensure that no one acting on behalf of their agency takes any adverse action against any person, as defined in Chapter 311 of the Texas Government Code, on account of the person’s act or refusal to act that is substantially motivated by sincere religious belief. This order applies to any agency decision, including but not limited to granting or denying benefits, managing agency employees, entering or enforcing agency contracts, licensing and permitting decisions, or enforcing state laws and regulations.”

Texas Governor, God bless you. Democrats are most likely to lose the next presidential election to the Republicans because of their numerous support for immorality laws.

Hilary will definitely get the vote of conservatives and evangelicals in 2016. No doubt, she's winning it.

Mr Governor, you've no point because the judgement of the Supreme Court does not force anybody to be gay, but protects those that are.

Actually, he isn't taking an action against the law itself, he's simply stating that businesses and individuals can refuse services to the homosexual population if they feel as though it is a violation of their freedom of religion. Homosexuals can still get married in Texas, but they can't force a person or business owned by a person of faith to participate in the prep that goes into a wedding such as joining of hands, catering etc. A lot of businesses already practiced this right around the country, even before same-sex marriage became legal in all 50 states.

The law is not even forcing people to do anything against their religious beliefs to start with so of what relevance is the governor's silly and redundant action?

If churches, pastors and others state have issues dealing with gay marriages, they are free to refuse participation, but the state can not deny gay folks marriage licenses and or state services.

His grandstanding and goofy actions is just for show because the supreme court's decision is the law of the land and he has no choice but to obey or get sued, sanctioned and even pay fines and damages.

His actions has zero leg to stand on legally so there's nothing huge about his meaningless charade designed to fool his own people...

The problem with many Nigerians is that they can't separate their beliefs from the Constitution. True believers understand there's no imposition in Christianity. If God has given us all, and individually free will why impose your perspective of life on another. That's a trait of a tyrant. Isis trive on this ideology....If u feel this way check urself
There are benefits that comes with being married in the US, and if the American declaration of Independence says all men are equal regardless of who or what they are, it is only right.
Also America has a separation of Church and State.

I don't remember any law forcing private entities to do anything against their religious beliefs. The supreme court's decision says no such thing so this is more like fools errand and crying wolf over nothing..

Gays can now get married. But they have limited rights.

What is the difference between this and the segregation against Afro-Americans before the civil rights movement in the early 1960s.

I don't think America is ready yet for same sex marriage. Why then sanction other countries who share kindred revulsion towards gays.

Our constitution says the same thing, but we don't have any respect for our own constitution and we can not separate religion and prejudice from our laws and constitution..

I won't say that they have limited rights, at least not cording to law. While being denied certain services might be considered oppressive, you also can't deny someone their freedom of religion. It is not a situation of wrong and right, it is a situation of right and right, and that is what makes it so difficult. Note that most businesses already reserve the right to deny services to whomever they wish, be it a heterosexual or homosexual. Also, no previously oppressed population is ever going to be truly free, especially if that particular population continue to live amongst its oppressors. Even the civil rights movement was not absolute, despite the abolition of jim crow laws and blacks being regarded as equals in the eyes of the law, they're still being discriminated against for nothing other than the color of their skin.

Morality and legality are two parallel lines. What is moral may not be legal. What is legal may not be moral. Abortion is morally wrong in the US, but is legally right in the same country. How many of our politicians have admitted that it's immoral to embezzle and such, stopped embezzling?

You forgot something, the Governor just protected Christians owned corporations from paying marriage benefits to gay couples which is one of contentious issues from this ruling.
