I don't have any personal experience and I pray not to.
This happened to the landlord of the house I stay. My landlord also happens to be an estate agent. On this fateful day he collected house rents of two apartments. He went to a bank with the aim to deposit the sum as was the custom but on getting to the bank there was so much queue so he decided to leave that particular bank to another bank in town as he also wanted to do his BVN registration then. So he flagged down a cab going to town. In the cab were two male passengers, one at the front with the driver and one at the back. My landlord got in the back of the vehicle. During the course of the journey a discussion ensued. The topic of discourse was about the just concluded governorship election that held in the state. "Mr. A has the rightful mandate, no no it's Mr. B". My landlord joined in this discussion and that was the last thing he knew. He said he woke up in a bush. The guys showed him dug graves and threatened that they could have him killed and buried there without anybody knowing. He came back home so ruffled up and he said the house rent he had on him had been dispossessed. He reported the case to the police and police said they had several cases like that. That since he didn't take down the registration of the vehicle that nothing could be done.
I think the lesson taught here is to try as much as possible not to engage in conversations with strangers in public cabs.

my cousin's experience
7 years ago:

she was sent to get food stuffs from the market,
after 5 hours she had not return, her mum was very worried, she called all the family members on phone, we all thought she branched at her boyfriend's house as usual, so we were nonchalant

when she returned she went straight to the wardrobe, scattering everywhere while her mum asked her what was wrong and what she was searching for, she gave no reply, she was acting dazed then she just ran out, her mum caught up with her at the staircase, she slapped her twice then she fell unconscious

when she regained consciousness, she told us she was accosted by two men who asked for direction, the next thing she found herself in a secluded area, she was asked to go home and get Money or gold then bring it back to them. she was charmed

are you sure this is true as I'm yet to find any medical explanation for this oh.

As at that time, whatsapp messages kept on coming in from my wife saying it was too late for me to be outside at that time since I didn’t go out in my car. The chat went on and on….the only thing on my mind was to see a bus very fast going towards my route so I can go home to my family.

The bolded should be noted, chatting while boarding vehicles, bike can smetimes be a major distractor(though not ur fault @ op),I've once entered a bus to where I wasn't going because of chats,I learnt a bitter lesson that day. Though the government have a role to play, but we should pray and be our own security. Thankgod there were no casualties op. Remain blessed.
bro your own fear me,because of chat.never try it again.

Erm, not the same but....

It was my last couple of days in naija and I had to visit a family member on my own, so wrote all the info on paper and I got a taxi to the place, I think it was a 45 mins drive from where I was. The ride there was smooth apart from when the driver got lost and I had to call for direction. P.s. I had dropped my phone before I travelled so had to use a really old bb which dies really quickly after a full charge. Anyway, when it was time to go home, my family member told me to wait whilst she goes to hail a cab, she negotiated a price to take me back for 600 naira. Got in and after a couple of minutes I started feeling unsettled as i did not recognised the roads from earlier. We started approaching a bridge where there were police men, that's when I heard the car lock sound, my heart almost jumped out of my mouth. I was not sure why he locked his car right after seeing the police men, that scared me. After we passed them, I pretended that I was on the phone(mind you, it was dead). I started talking about how I will be there soon and also asking the driver where we were. From then on, I just started a conversation with the driver, atleast to be nice just incase. My mind later settled when I recognised the area we were, knowing that I was closer to home. As we were turning into my estate, he said out of the blue, I should not be travelling alone especially at night as I could get into taxis with drivers who would "rubbish" me and steal my things. I thanked him when I got out and i gave him 1000naira for not being one of those drivers or for not going ahead with his plans if he was one of those drivers. Lol, honestly, the way I felt throughout that journey ehn, was horrible. I was told I was just being paranoid but still mehn, who knows. It's good to be nice and friendly oo, it is most likely to soften the hardest hearts because I know when some women enter taxi na so dem go don twist face finish. Anyway, I don't think I will be taking taxi again in naija on my own with all these stories I keep hearing.

My experience in the hands of the dreaded men of the highway popularly known as “one chance” is not one to be forgotten so soon.
It is important for us to share our experiences so others can learn from them and see caution in other for them not to fall prey of one.

My experience goes thus:

It was on a Tuesday evening on my way back from work around 10:30pm. I had stopped over at a friend’s place that normally helps me in buying meat from his customers around Onipan; they sell good ones at very reasonable prices. I quickly rushed down to his house, picked up the meat, pay him for it and head straight back to Onipan bus-stop to board a bus going towards Ketu-Ojota as I stay around Ogudu.

On getting to Onipan bus-stop, in front of the police station beside Forte Oil filling station, I met about five other guys waiting to board a bus as well and the entire highway looks deserted with few vehicles going to and fro. As at that time, whatsapp messages kept on coming in from my wife saying it was too late for me to be outside at that time since I didn’t go out in my car. The chat went on and on….the only thing on my mind was to see a bus very fast going towards my route so I can go home to my family.

After a short while of waiting, here comes a neat well painted (Lagos Commercial bus colored) Volks-Wagen bus with a usual aggressive “conductor” shouting “ketu-Ojota-Mile 12….. N100 ketu-ojota”!! Only two of us ran to the bus with the rest still waiting at the bus-stop. I never sensed foul play as my mind was only fixed with one thing; home. After shouting for a while calling passengers, the driver moved to the next bus-stop called “Aladiye” still at Onipan. A very close friend was standing there busy pressing his phone, waiting for a bus when the bus parked by his side with the conductor repeating his lines “Ketu-Ojota-Mile 12…….N100.00 Ketu-Ojota”. He (My friend) felt reluctant at first; maybe for the fear of too many guys in the bus. Then I called him….”wale (not real name), wale”. He then responded “guy…how far now? You just dey go home?” then I replied “yes o my Brother. Na wetin man go chop cause am o”. So I told the bus conductor to stand up from my side and allow my friend sit beside me, he quickly objected as there was only one person in the back sit. Wale seeing me in the bus felt at peace and hopped in to the back sit. The conversation then continued with blutooth. Wale then said “Ore, why didn’t you go to work in your car”? “Omo with the traffic around Apapa these days, I go on public transport. I only take my car on Fridays…you know as e dey go now?” I replied. The bus had gotten to another bus-stop called “Church”. A Bros I know also entered the bus. I dodged for him; never wanted him to see me cos he is always in need begging for money. And I mean always.

The driver then moved on to Palm-groove bus-stop. With no passenger at the bus-stop, he drove on. Then the conductor started asking for money. I dug my hand into my front pocket, brought out N500.00 and paid for two; myself and my friend. While waiting for my N300.00 balance and at the same time in deep thought of my family, they declared thus “Hey everybody, you have entered one chance….respect yourself…” I rose up my head to this amazement of whether these “crazy bastards” still exist or they are only joking. The guy sitting beside me started struggling with them when one of the “one chance” guys sitting in the extreme end on the same sit started hitting him hard on the head with a big stone and the guys on the sit behind us hit him with knuckles and gun butt in a bid to calm him down. They hit him on the head until blood started gushing out of it.

I then raised my hands, with my Samsung Galaxy Note 4 in my hand and my BB in one of my front pockets. One of the two guys sitting beside the driver collected the Note 4 from me. Then they stopped bordering me as they focused on other victims. Deep down, I was happy as I still had my BB with my N21k in my pocket. At the time, my friend Wale who is obviously taller and relatively huge was their center of focus. The craziest one among them sitting right behind me holding a gun; pointed the gun at Wale; ordering him to surrender all he has to him. While reluctantly bringing t out, the “Crazy” gave him a heavy blow on his lips and threatened to shoot him. “Abi were nie ni…moni ko fun mi ni owo apo e. olo fe ma s’agidi. E be like sey I go shoot one person for leg so una go know sey we no dey joke o” he said as he released a shot in the air. Then Wale started begging; released all the money plus ATM in his pocket to one of them. “How much dey there?” said the “Crazy”. “N50k” said Wale. Then they asked how much the guy sitting beside me has in his pocket, he brought out N350.00, N2k Nokia phone and 2ATM cards. They asked how much he has in his ATM when the guy replied “N3k”. The crazy now said angrily “so na because of N350, N2k Nokia phone and N3k in your account you wan kill yourself? No dey try am again o. we go just kill you comot; nobody fit hold us”.

At this time we were already in Gbagada cos instead of going straight, they made a turn beside Batola Machine Tools Company, Anthony and headed towards Gbagada via Charley Boy before making a turn on the bridge facing Anthony-Oshodi again. I was nursing the ambition of going home with my BB and N21k in my pocket when one of them dug his hand in my pocket and took them. He then said “wetin be this (showing me my BB)? Sebi you say u don give us everything. You even get money” “haa….i no know say the phone even dey there. I think say I don drop everything o……na a your own, take am naa.” I said. Meanwhile, I had my ATM and another N2k with some change in my back pocket.
They then forced others to release whatever they had on them while pointing guns to Wale to release his ATM PIN to them. He quickly gave them a fake PIN. Not satisfied, they insisted he must follow them to an ATM machine where he will make a withdrawal for them. He then pleaded that he had withdrawn everything in his account which they already collected.

They later dropped us along the road in a flower garden very close to Anthony after UPS office, Gbagada. I then took a cab home with my friend Wale. On getting home, I narrated my ordeal to my wife who said she’s been calling my line to no avail. I then remembered I bought a Chicken Suya….”oh one of then eating it in the bus” I realized.

It was really an awful experience as they were so mean and ready to kill anyone found not cooperating.

I urge the Lagos state government to rise up to its primary responsibility of protecting the life and property of every Lagosian by working closely with security operatives in tracking these dreaded and heartless men down before it is too late.
Kindly share your “One Chance” experience if you have any so others can learn. If you don’t, kindly follow so as to learn from people’s experiences.

Please ignore errors and omissions as this was posted without cross reading.

God Bless Nigeria.

Lalasticlala please help move this to front page for better audience

I am happy you came out of the ordeal in one piece. Please as a precautionary measure don't be distracted when entering public transport at that time of the day.Be fully focused and scan the passengers inside the bus well before making a move.Though not everyone can afford it at that time of the day it's advisable you charter a taxi.

I had my own experience at jibowu ten years ago.I just got back from a trip same day and dropped most of the cash I had with me at home before going to Surulere to visit a friend.
I took a bike from surulere to jibowu by 8p.m and waited for a bus going to ketu. The crowd at jibowu bus stop was unimaginable and the struggle to get a bus was fierce and yours sincerely rushed into a private cab known as kabu kabu.I was delighted at my smartness and settled down to enjoy the ride to ketu. The first lesson I learnt in life after my experience was to always be patient and calculative.Never be in a hurry and always have a plan.

The cab stopped at obanikoro close to a BMW saloon car that developed a fault. The owner was disturbed and his friend tried to calm him down while a mechanic was trying to rectify the fault. It was after my ordeal I realised they would have robbed the owner of the BMW and his friend but the mechanic's presence turned the tables against them because it would have been a contest of three against four.

The cab driver and the passenger in the front seat alighted and asked what the problem was while the mechanic told him not to worry that it will be sorted.

In my perfect state of foolishness I got caught up in the euphoria of the two men I pushed aside to enter the cab at jibowu and came back to reality when the driver said pay your money and I noticed we were still within obanikoro area.I dipped my hands into my pocket to bring out my T fare and the man sitting beside me tried to forcefully remove my phone from my pocket. As a sharp guy I quickly grabbed his hand and shouted why u wan thief my phone.

The next thing I heard was a sharp sound and I saw so many stars.Believe me when you are dazed you will surely see stars just like the ones we witness in cartoons. The kain slaps I received right ,left and centre pass the one wey happen to thief wey dem catch.

When the beatings subsided I was subjected to a question and answer segment while the man in front pointed a gun at me and threatened to blow my brains out.

Driver:How much u get before we kill u

Me: Oga I no remember .i beg make una no kill me and I gratefully handed over my wallet.

Driver:oya wey your phone

Me: I replied sorry sir.Oga take your phone.

As I handed over the phone I felt pained that my newly acquired Sony Ericsson T 100 phone dey waka like a candle in the wind. The blue back display lights always thrilled me and those nice ring tones of the phone.

The crazy driver gave me my sim card and I begged them not to push me out of the cab as soon as the devil in the front passenger seat mentioned that to the driver when he started moving at top speed.
The driver slowed down and promised to let me go that I cooperated. As soon as the taxi stopped ,the driver gave me N10 and I was told to move slowly towards the entrance gate of one of the streets at obanikoro as if I was trekking home or else I will regret any stupid action I take.

Na so I dey waka towards gate they recite all the prayers wey come my head.na im I hear the car zoom off.I ran into the street and ran out again.na dat time i sit down for road kerb come dey breathe heavily and I come shout awon were won fe pami.I escaped o.

I trekked from obanikoro to ketu and bought N5 pure water at ojota.Na so I enter okada from ketu reach my house collect money from my cousin give okada man.I didn't sleep till dawn cos I wasn't sure if it was as a result of body pains or the pains of my Sony Ericsson phone taken away by one chance robbers.

That singular event turned me to a pro afterwards as my security level became higher than the one at Pentagon.

My story goes like this, its brief;

So,I entered this bus from here to there in Lagos and just like they use to be scattered in the bus, they collected their loots row after row. I was already steaming hot. Two robbers by my side with their guns and the 3 at the back seat giving orders, including the driver n two pairs.

Like whtt u see in the movies ,I let tthe devil out of me. I struck the two with guns on their wind pipe n they dropped. I picked the first cougar magnum and blast the driver's head on his windscreen. At this moment, the three guys behind just dey stab stab me with dagger wey no dey enter, nah so I turn come dash the first guy slap, the jaw dislocate (ahSwear!grin),I use my knuckle rumple the 2nd guy to coma, the 3rd guy just dey beg.
Meanwhile, the ttwo passengers fr fronnt don run as I blast the driver.

And so,tht was how how all passengers started hailing n clapping fr me.

The annoying part be say I come wake up frm this kind sweet dream.
