Wanna be sure if buying a car with a V6 engine is safe or I should opt for something else. Please share your experience using a V6 car engine. Thanks.

Except u hate fast cars and good performance.

When you compare it's fuel consumption with that of a keke napep, then yes it does. But if you do compare it to that of a range rover v8 then it doesn't

It depends on the configuration, engine size, weight of the car and technology used by manufacturers. An old school v6 will consume more fuel than a modern v6 of same engine size. A car with 3.0L v6 will consume more fuel than same car with 2.4L i4 while doing city driving, it gets worse in stop and go traffic. But on highway the difference is negligible and u will surely enjoy driving a v6 on the highway.

But when u take a truck like pathfinder with a 4.0L v6 against a car with 2.2L i4, then the difference becomes really big.

I own a 3.0l V6 and I don't remember spending much on petrol.

Drive a V6 and you will never go back to an i4.

Op, do you wish to own an SUV someday?

6cylinders enghine will give your that instant pick when required, however most 6cyl engines have larger capacity 3.0 and above. Expectedly they will consume a lil more that a 2.4 I4 engine.
If you love speed and have space to run, why Not?

Just go get the 6cylinders.
Try a BMW

I used an Infinity QX4 some years back and swore never to drive a V6 again. The ride consumes an average of N1700/day for a distance of 50KM and it was frustrating, expect the consumption to go as high as N2000 when the plugs are bad or any other engine issue. Eventually sold it for 700k and had to give myself a treat and gave testimony for God's deliverance.

If cost of fuel and maintenance were to be negligible,

If you drive a V6, You will never pray for your enemy to own an I4. The drive is so smooth

No, QX4 are guzzlers. I've used one before mine was a 2001 QX4... It was a guzzler with an abysmal 14 MPG city, 15MPG combined and 18MPG highway. If I drove in city traffic, I'll end up spending about 3,000 to get her up to half tank again.

I have never really owned a v6- my present car is an I4 ; i used to own a V8 as well. If fuel is not a factor worth considering i'd go for more cylinders (v6 ,etc) over an I4 because of the refinement it gives you.

That notwithstanding I do hear recent model V6s like the camry get mpgs in the 20s ;which is pretty decent in my opinion

so high fuel consumption is peculiar with QX4. I thought mine was manufactured from the pit of hell, that ride always ensures constant visit to the gas station angry. Ever since I got my corolla (which I named 'Peace'), I have actually known abundance of peace.

The main reason why I hate the Qx4 is cos of the 4speed gear box
Car makes lots of noise because of late shifting that also leads to high fuel consumption

OP, i used a V6 car in my university days, it was a hell for me considering maintenance cost and fuel, well!!

Advantage

- the ride is sweet and can easily pick and fast, can easily escape with it cos its faster than 4plugs cars.

-if its still very new, no shaking, just go for it, you will enjoy it but be ready

Disaadvantage
if you are buying a V6 car, ensure its a very clean one with a little milaege
the older it get , the more fuel it consume, it will drain your pocket then finish you..lol

you can not manage

you can not ring the engine in-case you have problem with the rings,
when you are broke, just switch to taxi,,lol

its dangerous because of the excessive speed, don't make mistake or drink while driving, you must be extra careful, thou, all V6 are equipped with ABS, Automatic Break System

no matter the mileage your car is packing, maintenance is the key to enjoying it. I bought a car with 300,000km a year after, am still enjoying every bit of it after adding 12,000km my self no delay or issues.

define your excessive speed, I can do 100km/hr and remove my hands from the steering or even bend down and wear my shoes though my eyes never leaves the road and I only do that without traffic on either sides though dangerous but what the heck live life well and enjoy every moment of it

@op if traffic wasn't an issue in lagos I did just buy a VW phaeton with VV12 engine and enjoy the acceleration, handling and the luxury that comes with it and laught at the TURBOCHARGED wanna be speedsters. I know the worst mpg it will give will be highway but with traffic, V8 upwards is a no no for me

Bros, with a VV12? or V12? are you a snail? 100KMPH is a normal slow and stead pace on the road, i dont do less that 120KMPH and my mode normal mode is 140KMPH with a MERC Compressor wink wink cheesy this is because a compressor gives you one nice sound and conserve fuel on high gear, just keep it stead in that mode! i dont take nonsense from commercial drivers, Vectra drivers along Zaria-kano-Jos-Abuja- lol
excessive speed is when you turbo at every opportunity you see, even within the street, you know V6 is sweet..

I believe Nurey meant W12.

Regardless of whether an I4 motor is running forced induction (turbocharged or supercharged) it's no V6 or V8. A V8 will also sound better than any I4. A Kompressed I4 making 300hp is very different from a V6 / V8 making 280.

However, when comparing an I4 to a V6, it all depends on engine capacity. A 2.5 inline 4 will be more efficient than a 2.5 V6, the I4 will be quicker too. The V6 will have more internal friction to overcome.

A better 6 cylinder engine would be an inline 6, with BMW being the benchmark worldwide for the smoothest I6 motor.

It is sometimes difficult to relate to how some Nigerians calculate fuel economy without using a computer program.

You said N1700 of fuel for every 50km

If you paid N100/l it should be ~4gallon for 30 miles

You QX4 should be half of the fuel you were using sso your truck had a problem somewhere.

Yes it does. Go and buy an I4. You can't eat your cake and have it. If you drive in Lagos and drive in areas know for traffic congestion, you are better off with an I4 if fuel economy is your concern.

I think the smoothest 6 cylinder engine is the flat 6.
It was used in a lotta porche and the lykan car too.

Even a Caterpillar won't gulp N1,700 fuel daily, your fuel filter, nozzle and fuel pump were clogged with dirts without you noticing it.

I will repeat, the inline 6 engine is the worlds smoothest 6 cylinder configuration.

Disadvantages are it's length and weight.

The flat 6 is not as smooth, though it is light and compact enough to fit in limited spaces, and gives a lower centre of gravity. It also has shorter service intervals due to it's higher than industry average oil consumption.

And this is where my new Dream Car company Audi comes in with the new TFSI engine. Here is what Audi has to say about it :

Turbo fuel stratified injection or TFSI combines petrol direct injection with turbocharging.

Compared with conventional naturally aspirated V6 engines, a turbocharged direct-injection four-cylinder engine delivering the same performance uses 10 to 15 percent less fuel.

FSI technology and turbocharging make an excellent combination because the evaporation of fuel directly within the combustion chamber in FSI engines removes heat from the intake air. This allows a higher compression, significantly improving engine efficiency. It also solves an old problem in all turbocharged engines – a high tendency to knock at high boost levels.

The integrated turbocharger exhaust manifold module ensures optimum turbine efficiency, resulting in excellent utilisation of the exhaust energy. This achieves both a high power output and optimum engine responsiveness, ultimately helping to reduce fuel consumption and exhaust emissions.

What it basically means is that Audi uses a 2.0 Engine with a turbo charger that is more fuel economical and delivers the same power as a conventional V6 Engine without all the disadvantages that most V6 engines have.

Sienna, your expertise is welcomed to add more knowledge.

take it from me, chucky, QX4 are gas guzzlers. Its got an engine tuned for towing and sports, a 4wheel system tuned for sports, a gear which can hold gear to build up much rev and dump it hard just as sports does, its tachos run revs like sports yet its big, block shaped and heavy approx 2ton imagine a 3.5l doing 240bhp yet 282ib-ft matched to an ATTESA 4wheel sytem which is only found in Nissan Skylines. Thats what that Infiniti QX4 has. That truck gulps fuel badly, its got the MPG of a V8.
M talking from experience because i owned one for 1 full year and it was meticulously maintained by Mike.
