As mixed reactions continued to trail the recent appointment by President Muhammadu Buhari, people of the South East region, have been urged to ‎exercise restraint in making quick conclusions that they will be marginalized under the Buhari’s administration.

The Special Assistant to the Imo State Governor and Liaison Officer, Lagos, Alfred Ononugbo, made this plea on yesterday, while speaking at a press conference in Lagos, to announce a Solidarity Rally and Grand Reception in honour of Governor Rochas Okorocha‎ of Imo State, on Saturday, July 25, at the National Arts Theatre, Iganmu, Lagos.

Ononugbo, who affirmed that Ndigbo ‎cannot be relegated to the background as one of the tripod legs holding Nigeria, however advised that the Buhari administration should be given time to digest the degree of challenge ahead in order to make appropriate selection in his appointments.

Ndigbo

Disclosing that the programme was put up by the Imo State Liaison Office, Lagos, in collaboration with South East APC forum, South East Communities in Lagos, he said: “You can’t talk about Nigeria without Ndigbo, and you can’t talk about Ndigbo without Nigeria. So, we want to make it clear through this Solidarity Rally and Grand Reception in honour of the Imo State Governor, Chief Rochas Okorocha‎, that we are part of the Nigerian project, that we are stakeholders in the Nigerian project.
“We trust our leaders and we feel it’s too early to begin to make deductions. The fact that APC stood for merit underscores the situation on ground at the moment. I think we should allow the Buhari administration find its feet. The administration is studying the situation of the country, because the APC met a totally broken down infrastructure and system in the country.

“However, we have people of Igbo extraction competent enough to handle assignments. So, I think we should allow our leaders time to digest the degree of challenge ahead and make appropriate selections, to find heads that can feat into those caps. Our major problem in this part of the world is that we are too hasty in judging the Buhari administration that has barely spent three months that it’s discriminating against Ndigbo. That is not correct.

“In a country of 170million, if barely 17 people have gotten appointments, I don’t know how we want to assess that. We are not in a hurry. We have no fear and doubt in Buhari. We trust the man we have elected as the President of Nigeria. He won this election based on his personal integrity and we believe ‎deeply in our heart that his integrity will speak for him and he will be vindicated at the end of the day,” he said.

I don't even know where people are getting this idea that they will be marginalized. People who contribute to this nation through oil, gas, manpower, industriousness, etc. how can they be politically marginalized? Patience is needed, Buhari needs time to unwind a lot of things which affect us all, the common people on the streets, let's stop making things so easy for these political thieves and criminals to continue being relevant while we're relegated after being used by them to cause trouble

Politicians have been working on our mindset and fears since 1960 whenever their interests feel threatened, let's resist them now and move this nation forward.

Who cares whether anyone is patient of not. Buhari will do as he deems best for the interest of Nigeria. No zone, ethnic group or religion would bamboozle him into taking rash decisions simply to appease some thirsty politicians.

I keep asking this simple question: what happens if all the ethnic nationalities start crying foul like some people?? Does it then mean Buhari must have a cabinet that encompasses all ethnic nationalities in Nigeria?? And isn't it ironic those that contributed the least to his ascension are those making the most demands??

These guys should take several seats jor. The noise is getting irritating.

The president has made less that 5% of his statutory appointments. They should wait for at least 60% before they start Wailing.

Besides, he has four years to prove himself. Anyone who can't wait can as well take up a different nationality.

You know what baffles me the most with the way 'ndigbos' are clamoring is that they seem not to be realistic but greedy.

There are six geopolitical zones in Nigeria of which three are seen to all as one 'nothereners', forgetting they are made up of North east, North west and north Central which is about 17 states as against the 5 which make up the south east.

I think we all just have to let the President rule the nation by selection based on competency rather than sentiments.

Do we question the personality of any of the appointed individuals thus far?

Maybe they would have been happier if ngige and okorocha was apoointed chief of army staff and NSA respectively.....mtchew

They don't care! As long as it is "my brother" it as all good and fine. That explains why they could carry placards and march on the streets to defend a confirmed criminal.

All thanks to jonathan and his brand of politics.
