Everyone knows experience is the koko but Since he has no means of getting experience, should he remain at home and job hunt till God knows when undecided

Also I think some companies like haliburton accept 2-2 with masters/professional qualifications. . I have seen such in some other advertisements. ..
surely he can go for it na. and it wud help later in his career for promotion. bt his aim is for it to boost his chances of getting a job. u and i knw say no be so

It actually depends on which section of the labor market u re looking at. My little experience in the construction industry shows that employment most times are based on years of experience and the certification for that skill. In the oil and gas section it is based on your school qualification and experience. I would suggest you learn a skill and back it up with a certification (if any) while you are still searching for a job. on the other hand do business but first study that business very well.

Which Construction coy are u? I am in seriously searching I have got experience were am working but we are having serious shake up due to no job. help me let me hook up were you are

Guy just look for a professional certificate that will enhance your course and no master. Have friends who went for masters and still teach at small private schools. Profesional Certificates is the way now!!!!

so far so good...I HV done 4 aptitude test...2 at which I lost due to d fact dat I did nt graduate with a 2.1...n d oder 2 I failed, as 4 d CV u have a very good and well formatted CV, no blunders n my communication skill is excellent... u can c from my write up

I doubt if any company will invite an applicant who didn't meet the basic requirements for a job test maybe you left out your class of degree in your resume. That's a good move. You should consult my post again. I ve updated it. As I rightly pointed out, the points I raised are not textbook approaches to landing a dream job but applying them can improve your chances.

The fact that you are getting invitations for job test is a good sign. Do not relent due to initial disappointments. It is not easy even for graduates with first class and 2.1. Securing a job can be a herculean task in this clime.

While you are still opening job portals and waiting for the next interview invitation, there is a need for self development. Professional Certifications are good. Some people have already suggested that. You can also use the social media as a means to reach out to prospective employers. Do you have a LinkedIn account? What do you use your facebook account for? Do you possess a unique skill? If yes, the social media is a good means of showing people what you can do?. Don't ignore NL job sections.

I recently just concluded my nysc this July and have since been trying to secure a job...Now I have been sending many applications since February but still no luck...

The question now is that if I acquire a masters degree, would that guarantee me a job in Nigeria...or everything is based on connection, because I am really confused. don't know whether I should use the little money I saved up during my nysc to pursue masters or I should keep on the job hunt.....

I would appreciate good advice from experienced people here and lastly I graduated with a 2.2 in the dept of metallurgical and materials engineering.

Before going to Master on any discipline or professions, work experience (hands on)is very key.
Since your are a Met/Mat Graduate, look for firms that are into Inspections, Lifting, Welding or Pipeline Corrosion Management, approach them and offer to work for them either paid or unpaid (ie intern), you will gain valuable experience through this means and with time you can do certifications on NDT, CSWIP ie Welding Inspection etc. and perhaps Msc if you still have the interest. Masters can not guarantee you a job.

Goodluck to you on anything you decide to do.

yeah.. nothing guarantees a job, not even a first class, we are all working towards increasing our chances. .. To me, I feel Bsc + Msc is better than just Bsc esp as he has a 2-2...

Simply ask yourself this; Am I smart and brilliant enough. Can I defend whatever result I have bad even when I have a masters. If yes, go for it.
Ask yourself again, have I got passion for my profession of choice, have I got any hands on experience be it internship or voluntary jobs. If yes, go for it. If no to all above, check what you good at and wha u got passion for.

Dat will only help u (M.Sc) if you want to go into lecturing. Nigerian employers can sniff ACADEMIC INSECURITY 4rom a distance. Especially if one haz a 2.2 B.Sc. Like they have rightly said here, self improvement, skill acquisition n necessary certification will increase ur prospects. Trust me,if it boils down to na M.Sc holder who had a 2.2 b.sc and a 2.1 B.Sc holder, they will pick s 2.1 B.Sc holder.

Msc can be an added advantage in the long term...I would advice that since you graduated with a 2:2 an msc can go a long way to help you secure a job...but remember it is those who can crack through the tough apptitude tests that secure the jobs in nigeria...even if you bag distinctions from top notch universities like the imperial college,IFP, stavanger etc you would still need to be the best in the SHL's and DRAGNETs to get that desired job...the truth is the big companies pay msc holders more than those with bsc...like others have said, certification courses along with experience can go a long way to help...in all,msc can help but might not be immediate...

And the OP please I would advise that if you ever decide to run a masters better you think beyond oil and gas...there are very good courses that an msc can expose you to jobs...aeronautical engineering is one field you can think of...run such course abroad and abandon this confused country called nigeria... grin....the field is not congested like the oil and gas...

bros you need to Phd.
Atleast 2.1 , 2.2 is too common,
then you need connections,
then if you dont have connections, you need Jesus in your Life, you need to speak atleast 2 foreign languages french or chinese....

If you have masters degree and you don't know anything, trust me it will not perform miracles for you. i have masters in business education and it helped me secure a lecturing job among 300+ applicants. masters will give you an edge in the midst of BSc holders in any interview situation as much attention will be given to you, but the onus lie on u to convince every member of the interview panel that you are most suitable for the job. I thank you all.

My dear like u said"connection" that is the key, my little advise is that if the little money u saved during NYSC can fetch u a very lucrative bizness.... Start something first,,,,,,,,,u can go for ur master later, master is not a criteria to get job !!!!!!!! .be wise

90% corpers do not save... Its easier to hunt for jobs when you have a little source of income to atleast handle the little expenses that comes with job hunting...

Well, master and working experience are all good it depends on ur status, but the best is for your to know where u are going every morning, so that u can't waste ur time with the jobless train, it builds ur mind and may lead to one or two Coincidental chances, but above all, if u are Confident enough why not ur established a professional welding or panel beating stands. because I learnt in this naija, Handwork is the best way to enjoy one life.

Men u studied a very uncommon course a masters would guarantee U a job. First thing what industry do u want to work. If u have patience u can look for an entry level position where u are not even paid but make sure u are getting the xperience. Or else my dear start finding what u can do on ur own. If u want to rely on certificate now u wld be suprised how much certificates are out der.

Bros don't say what you don't know, have you ever enrolled for an msc, do you know what it takes to complete an msc
an msc consists of 2 years of research work, no one teaches you anything, your supervisor just guides you and your expected to bring out results(thesis) from ur research during the course of your msc u also lecture students, even a 3rd class student(bsc) that has managed to complete an msc is far more superior to a 1st class (bsc), even during interviews when ur interviewer learns that you have an msc they tend to show u some respect because they know academically u are more qualified than them.
