Aba And Onitsha - Understanding The Energy, Histories And Attitudes by AnambraDota: 10:20am On Aug 01, 2015
From the echos of Ekwumekwu War when Western Igboland comprising of the present day Anioma people in Delta State and Onitsha people in Anambra State resisted British occupation of Igboland, the war raged for 9 years with great casualties on both sides. The Ekwumekwu War later influenced the Mua Mua Uprising in Kenya which was also against British Imperialism and colonialism.
Indirect rule was rejected totally in Igboland because the people were okay with their leadership style(Republicanism) why in North it was success, in. West as either success nor failure as usual.

Western Igboland resisted everything colonialism and always try to erase every colonial footprint in Igboland, even Arab Expansion couldn't get to Igboland because of fierce resistance they must have heard from Portuguese traveling merchants who set foot first in Igboland (Aboh).

In 1929, Aba women Riot erupted causing great disaster to colonial Igboland, the Riot was spearhead by Aba Women led by Margaret Ekpo which ransacked the entire colonial offices of Aba Division and other surrounding colonial outposts in Igboland. The casualty was one too many on both sides of the belligerent which prompted the colonial masters to abruptly close some of their offices in Igboland and took to their heels.
Before the Aba Women Riot, Britain find it difficult penetrating the Eastern Ignited, they were exhausted after fighting the Aro Confredracy and Ibinu Ukpabi.

The colonial masters didn't find it funny setting foothold in Igboland, when they have already ransacked and cornered the North and West and lord over them the way they liked.

If you check the way things are going in Nigeria you will discover the greatest resistance against any form of anti- people activities of Nigeria government always emerge from either Aba or Onitsha, both cities have a long tradition of resistance and energy to carry out any act of violence against any oppressor whatsoever, government agencies, groups or individuals.

Whenever their is riot in North, the Eastern cities of Aba and Onitsha will always erupt, whenever this tension in North FG will deploy troops in the cities of Aba and Onitsha because they know their vengeance is best served hot.

When security of lives and properties collapsed in Nigeria and Igboland was affected it was through the ingenuity of the Aba people that a group know as Bakassi Boys were raised who helped in restoring peoples' confidence in the places they were operating. Aba raised Bakassi, nutured it and exported to Onitsha where their massive and people's orientated works were greatly admired and supported by all and sundry.

You see some people take to tweeter, facebook, instagram, punch and vanguard to vent their frustrations and anger whenever they are attack by strangers in their land or by their hosts in their land of sojourn, Aba and Onitsha take out their on frustrations immediately while people read it in the Newspapers, Facebook, twitter, Nairaland et al.

Ask any police officer where they don't like serving, they will prefer East but Aba and Onitsha are always not their preferred choices.

The more Nigeria know how rigid Igbo culture is the easier they learn how to be themselves, Aba and Onitsha can never be cowed by gun wielding Nigeria police and military officers, the cities rose from the ashes of violence and resistance of intimidation and servitude. They resistance superior powers of British colonial imperialists, their activities sent shock down the spines of those intending Arabs who were scheming on how to invade and annex the land like they did other surrounding nations around them.

The best thing is for Nigeria Police to apply cautions and live happily in the two tough cities, both don't take no prisoner and both have everything in common both negative and positive, both are influential and are relatively powerful depending on the issue at hand.

Thanks my brother, we carry no placards, the reason why the Ekwulobia prison debacle didn't turn bloody was because nobody was sure whether the prisoners were there or not.

Aba and Onitsha are the toughest cities in Nigeria

Even though these 2 cities grew basically on their own without any input from federal government and very little state input, these cities are the pride of igbo nation and could have grown faster if the people look inwards and entirely forget both state and federal government.

An instance is the modernisation of the malls in Aba and Onitsha which are entirely private sector led, aba ipp ,this could be complimented with more real infrastructure in River ports and barges. The east should look inwards now that the central government is no longer igbo friendly.

Ekuemeku war only exist in Ibo historical books. Where else can one find records of this event in war archives? Nowhere!

Ibo and embellishments...trying to convince the world by all means, including falsification of history, to gain recognition.

Last week at Agege another Hausa Scavenger killed a Yoruba Rabbit Seller at Agege Lagos, you did nothing but to come on NL and start looking for Igbo wars to fight.

Igbos have no war to fight with you, Hausas are already decimating you in your own land and your here carrying placards to picket against Igbo women.
