What a way to go.... You expect bloggers that cannot complete a sentence to stop copy and pasting, they will always find fast lane. |

It is a waste of time reporting to Google, Googlebot naturally crawl all published pages unless the authentic article was never published on your blog or website. It is amateurish to put a duplicate content on your site because it is the quickest way to get slapped by the google penguin and hummingbird update. My advise is that you get inbound links on all your pages. That way, all of your content contribute in giving credibility to your site. |

When you upload your original article or blog post, do everything possible to get that particular page indexed by Bing.com and Google.com. Once you do that, there is no problem - the original article always ranks higher than the duplicate. To find out if an article has been indexed by Bing or Google, just search on your article url. luigiajah: |

It is an orientation issue. Institutions of learning in Nigeria are not doing enough to check plagiarism. They lack the capacity; software and technical know how to curb the menace. Therefore, they turn out graduates who cheated their way out of school. Schools outside are able to check students' work for plagiarism with software such Safe Assign. Safe Assign would tell you in matter of seconds where you lifted even a single line of phrase or an idea. Most people are not aware that copy right infringement is criminal. You may get away with it in blogs because it is not policed. Again there is the issue of fair-use; generally advancing issues that are important to the society. However, it is usually a good idea to cite your source. Agreed, people on social media do it under the guise of fair-use or freedom of expression. But don't stretch your luck too far, in real world it could be detrimental. Since many materials you find online are protected by copyright, my suggestions would be as follows; Typical when you come across something of interest, one or two lines in quote would be ok. You may not use another person's work to draw attention to your thread (work). This is not fair. Lastly, depending on the length of the original work, use discretion when quoting. Think of it, if someone is making a living from writing brochures (manuals), and you copied and pasted it on your thread, don't you think that you have rendered his business useless and damaged his source of income? This single act would cause him some pain and suffering. Finally, for those who maybe following this thread, as long as you are expressing your own opinion, and advancing discussion in true faith, you have nothing to worry about. |

it is always painful when someone of people steal your effort and it is more painful when someone else gets credit for it. It is always better to take solace in the fact that they can rip off your post but they can't do that with your skills. Never. |

coolsix: I respectfully disagree with you. The first and most important people to file a DMCA with are the major search engines Google and Bing (by extension yahoo, duckduck and all the others) controls like 95% of organic traffic. I've been doing this for years and nothing is as effective as getting them kicked out of adsense, amazon affiliate or any other ways they are making money on the site. Reporting them to their hosting company (while some would take action) most would ignore your mail or say they are looking into it. Even when the host close their account the same site pops up within a few days on another hosting account. |

vicdayo: if you can see it in your browser, it means it is been rendered somehow, if it is rendered, then it can be copied. |

MeandSum: Being kicked out of adsense does not remove the stolen content. And what if the person ain't using adsense ? what if it's Nairaland for example who do you want to report to? Google? Yahoo? Seriously. Take your best shot.. the content will remain for d next 10 years |

standd: It's simple: use the Google Webmaster Tool, to fetch the URL as Google and then, request that it should be indexed. Usually, it takes barely minutes! |

damiloladuke: Without giving you credit? How can you be happy if your work is everywhere and you can't lay claim to it? How can you be happy if someone else is claiming your sweat? How can you be happy if someone else is getting the recognition/award for your work and you can't do a thing about it cos the work is free and is everywhere on the net? |

People should learn to acknowledge original owners of contents. For every copied content on my blog, there's a link to the original website, that's how it should be |

coolsix: If the site does not use AdSense then the DMCA would cover it. We file around 100 of these across all our websites monthly (that could go as high as 400 in November/December!) We've filed over 50 DMCA against yahoo (yahoo answer or whatever they call their answering services these days). The results disappears from search results within 7 days. I assume you know how search engine work - if there are DMCA against the content, it would not rank. Even if it would be there for 30 years - it makes no difference b/cos it would not show up in search result. |
