Mr Elijah Ateki, the Chairman, Community Development Committee (CDC), Otuoke, Ogbia Local Government Area, Bayelsa, has bemoaned the scarcity of potable water in the area.

Ateki said in Otuoke on Sunday that lack of drinking water was the major problem in the community.

According to him, the situation is due to the pollution of rivers in the area by oil spilage.

He said the community had suffered inadequate potable water over the years, and urged the State and Federal Governments to provide the people with potable water.

“Otuoke community depends on rivers and now that all the rivers are polluted by oil, it is difficult for us to get potable water here.” Ateki said.

Emmanuel Agede, a member of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) serving in the area, expressed dissatisfaction with the situation and called for government’s intervention.

“You will not believe it that here in Otuoke, we use water from an unused suck-away pit dug near our lodge, for washing clothes and bathing.

“For cooking and drinking, we buy sachet water; life is very difficult here; we spend the bulk of our monthly allowances on water for survival.” (NAN)

Hard to believe.
BUT THIS COULD HAPPEN IF YOU HAD A VISIONLESS AND CLUELESS LEADER AT THE HELMS OF AFFAIRS AT A POINT IN TIME PAST.

If Goodluck Jonathan could not clean up the oil that has polluted the rivers in Otuoke and provided portable water in his community, then it is very regrettable and shameful.
With the money he looted as president,he should provide water for his community and not wait for Buhari to do it

Quite sad for those people to bath and cook with soak away water and spend almost all their salaries on sachet water.
GEJ should do something with the billions he looted. These people are suffering.

Very soon, senses will come into the brains of these people that, the militants, politicians and their leaders are not fighting for anyone but their personal pockets.

As far as these people have the money to purchase bottled water, they wouldn't care about what happens to the ordinary citizens of the region as regards drinking water.

I blame the state Governor.....and the Local government chairman.

Because....unfortunately in this country, people expect Abuja to babysit the governor and the LG chairman.

Well.....the President cannot do everything at once. Just because the presido for the last 6 years was from the area does not give the local leader an excuse to do nothing.
