President Muhammadu Buhari Wednesday in
Abuja declared his administration’s commitment
to boosting national productivity, by among other
things, taking all necessary actions to end
incessant strikes by workers in vital sectors of
the Nigerian economy.
At a meeting with the Permanent Secretary and
Directors of the Federal Ministry of Labour,
President Buhari said that he was particularly
disturbed by the seemingly endless strikes in
Nigeria’s health sector which have contributed to
the fall in the standard of health services
available in the country.
The President directed the Permanent Secretary,
Dr. Clement Illoh and Directors in the Ministry of
Labour to liaise with other stakeholders and
quickly work out proposals for ending the
recurring strikes in the health, education,
transport, oil and gas, power and other critical
sectors of the national economy.
Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, who was also
present at the meeting, urged Dr. Illoh and his
staff to make an input to ongoing plans for the
extension of welfare services to poor and
disabled persons.
Dr. Illoh had earlier attributed some of the
recurrent strikes in the country to the inclination
of some government officials to enter into
agreements with financial implications without
carrying the Ministries of Finance and Labour
along.
He said that the Ministry of Labour has now
introduced a Code of Conduct for Government
Negotiators barring them from entering into
agreements with financial implications without
the consent of the President.

My President has spoken! We believe you sir!......... I remember a certain ex-president that woke up on a certain New Year's day and gave us OVER 100% increament on fuel, and all my fellow Igbo brothers and sisters that travelled home to meet there relatives got stranded for over 3weeks through strike (some of them are all over here shouting marginalisation now, people with short memories). I believe it is only a President that is 'clueless' can listen to that kinda advice from 'thieves' and corrupt souls who 'ate our yams' he surrounded himself with, A New Year's day for that matter! Breathe of Fresh Air indeed! God bless PMB. Nigeria shall be great again!!

* By unleashing the DSS and other security agencies on friends and family members of the leadership of worker union bodies
* By muzzling the ability of the media to pass across to the populace the true state of the workers
* By allowing unscrupulous elements strike mouthwatering dubious financial agreements with the hierarchy of the unions
Don't worry Mr President, by this time next year, you will have the pleasure of contending with about 5 union strikes at the same time.
