you can't update unless you'll brick your phone. Download a new rom and flash. I will recommend the Russian firmware or the Romania firmware

Your phone might need a software update. You can take it to Gionee service centre for software update. I did my m5 software update for free

I dint get u. Can one use TWRP to flash it or its only SPFlashTool one can use? By the way what did u use to flash it on your phone?

to get twrp recovery without first rooting what I did was to overwrite the original recovery image in the ROM folder with the twrp recovery image. Thereafter I flashed ONLY the recovery image with spflashtool

please explain how you root it. It bootloop when I tried.
The Rom is OK only I m not sure is if it has the 16% battery drain. I will reflash, make a recovery and upload it. But don't know if m3dot can just do that: backup without data, select compressed backup and upload

I thereafter booted into Recovery mode to grant permission for system modification while trying to reboot the phone, I got a prompt from twrp that it appears that the phone wasn't rooted. it requested permission to root the phone which I granted. Twrp then rooted the phone
