Rice (Oryza sativa ) is one of the leading food crops of the world, it is a cereal crop for human consumption and is a staple food of over approximately one-half of the world population (Cantral and Reeves, 2002, Davidson et al., 1979)

Despite the fact that different varieties of rice are widely cultivated in Nigeria, for example Abakaliki rice, but there is an upsurge in the influx of foreign rice varieties into the country.
Majority of the Nigerian prefer to consume foreign rice brand compare to any local rice varieties produced in Abakaliki. This is base on quality preference.
The FG as a matter of urgency should support the local farmers in the state to produce more rice for local consumption and export. These are genuine farmers who would revolutionlise rice production in the country with the needed assistance from the government.
”This assistance can come in form of loans, provision of farm inputs, provision of modern equipment at the mills, among others, to help in massive rice production.”
The rice mill in Ebonyi State currently produced enough for distribution across the country, enhancement of its activities would attract the interest of youths in rice production.
”This will reduce the high rate of unemployment in the state,
Money spent on rice importation should be channelled toward revamping the Rice Mill to meet internationa standard.
We should learn to do our own things and save the future of this country

Waiting for government would be a long thing, private investor local and foreign should be invited instead.

Maybe state government should the facilitate. But for F.Govt? It has just renew the rice importation liecence, it won't like to kill investments on that.

lt is more of the State government's responsibility than that of the FG. They should work towards the standardization of their rice and demand would shift towards their direction. With the rice husk there, they can cheaply generate their electricity.
