Its the future, right? Azure and OpenStack, i swear by them. One of the Discos here have a great Hybrid platform for their billing, and yours truly is playing a part.

Trying to get into Hadoop, Django and MapReduce for when Big Data/Machine Learning hits big in Naija.

There's tons of resources on the web, including youtube. Use it wisely.

Cheers.

You thought wrong. Im in the habit of kissing arses to MAKE money. I dont kiss arses to SPEND money. So there.

I dont know what you mean by innovation. To me 64bit is innovative, motion co-pro is innovative, Taptic Engine is innovative, 240 frame slomo is innovative. Except if you're comparing with samsung and consider a range of gimmicks as innovation.

Look! A curved screen! Yay, go science!
Samsung innovations are gimmicks?
Tell that to

Fast Charging
128 GB UFS Flash Storage
Multi Window
UPS mode
"phase-detect" autofocus
fitness tracking capabilities
The SPen
Knox
Rotating Bezel of the gear S2
Group Play
Smart stay..etc

Pah.
As for copying: well, who was found guilty of copying and ordered to pay? Samsung!
On June 4, 2013, Samsung won a limited ban from the U.S. International Trade Commission on sales of certain Apple products after the commission found Apple had violated a Samsung patent

Apple started the whole craze: accelerometers, gyroscopes, proximity sensors, sealed batteries, gorilla glass, capacitive multitouch, pinch to zoom, slide to unlock, glass panels, etc. Hell even the current samsung offerings look so much like the iphone, including sealed batteries, no Sdcards, even the earpods

1. Slide to unlock existed on an old Windows CE device in 2005. Two years before the OG iphone was announced.
2. Samsung glass panels are nothing like the iPhone.

3.Galaxy S6 isn’t inspired from iPhone, but from Samsung’s own Ativ S which wad out way before the iPhone 6

Well, there once was a little device called the Apple Newton which had a touchscreen and stylus, way back in the early 1990s
Samsung is the only reason Styluses are relevant today. Heck, apparently apple brought back the stylus because of Samsung’s success with it.

if it says "Pro", it's not meant for you. In any case the iPad mini is very much cheap for all you scrooges. Or you can try a Galaxy Note.
There's a difference between CHEAP and affordable. ₦ 150 000 is not chesp

Goodluck having the Z5 premium set the world on fire. How many UHD TVs have you even seen? Or 4k content? 4k is overkill on a mobile device, except for when VR goes mainstream. And the Z5 is 4k only some of the time. For most usage it dumbs down to good old 1080p, so nyah!

And the iphone, with its meager 1gb and dualcore, is more fluid than your octacores (decacore is coming) and 4gb rams. That's smart design! So double nyah!!
Samsung galaxy S6 actually matches the iPhone 6 performance in day to day use. Thanks to the E7420

No one buys their hardware just for specs. When steve jobs introduced the original iphone, the emphasis was on software. In that period Nokia was king of the hill, and what was Nokia known for? Killer hardware, poor software? So where's Nokia now? Same thing happened to Blackberry.

While the android world is littered with behemoths packing powerful and excessive hardware (and still lag) just to accommodate an OS centered around a virtual machine (Dalvik and ART), Apple nimbly gets by with modest hardware and clever software.

Why do you think Nexus devices focus more on pure android than raw specs?

And dude, windows cant be optimised for crap. You optimize based around a target hardware combo. Wintel is based around diversity of hardware, so how do you optimise for the myriad of hardware choices and OEM idiosyncrasies out there?

Apple is neither xiaomi, nor is it samsung. It doesnt have to cater for a broad spectrum of customers simply by designing no-margin products (xiaomi), or tossing everything haphazardly at the wall to see what sticks (samsung)

Apple is Apple, catering for people with taste and without the time to start messing around with memory cards, drivers, root and whatnot. Apple is the Burberry of phones. Apple is the Bentley of gadgets. Those without style, substance or purchasing power can step into those Tecno booths!

I make my purchasing decisions baswd on need and budget. Ive a mixture of devices, my next purchase will be the Elephone Vowney. I dont buy specs nor brand. I buy what i feel serves my purpose.

Oh, and those sheep? Totally outclassed the lifeless droids.
Android takes off the training wheels and lets consumers have a swath of hardware and software to choose from, along with access to key technologies, such as NFC pairing and 4K screens that Apple doesn't think its users are ready for.
Google's marketing tagline for Android is "Be Together. Not the Same." That makes sense, because the platform appears on hundreds of different phone models around the world. You can get Android phones with giant screens, small screens, built-in projectors, QWERTY keyboards and replaceable batteries.

Perhaps most important, there are many rugged Android phones that are made to survive being submerged underwater or dropped. If you want a new iPhone today, you have four choices: the a iPhone 6s Plus, a midsize iPhone 6s and three old models: the similarly-sized. None of these is designed to take a beating. Hardware is VERY IMPORTANT. Stop trying to belittle it's relevance. Software also, in comparison, iOS is behind android. We see IOS adopting more android features than android from iOS

For people who are excited about unleashing the best mode their phones have to offer, android rules. I mean, if you really know your game you'll perform wonders with the OS.I once toured with dual booting my phone with Mozilla OS out Linux.

But if you're all about the sleekness of your device and how smooth it operates. You don't want to bother your head with task managers and other geeky stuff, then iOD is for you.

We shouldn't try to impose our tastes on others. Everyone had a right to freedom of choice for the ecosystem they wanna belong to

Seems like we're gonna be doing this all day.

caukerzee:

On June 4, 2013, Samsung won a limited ban from the U.S. International Trade Commission on sales of certain Apple products after the commission found Apple had violated a Samsung patent

The so-called ban was vetoed because it was a Standards Essential Patent; you cant enforce a ban on SEP.

caukerzee:

1. Slide to unlock existed on an old Windows CE device in 2005. Two years before the OG iphone was announced.

And this mystery phone is? I only ask because because US patent number 8,286,103 specifically broadly covers continuously moving an image to a general unlock region on the screen to unlock the device.

If the bolded was prior art (i.e it existed before) why was this patent granted to Apple?

caukerzee:

Galaxy S6 isn’t inspired from iPhone, but from Samsung’s own Ativ S which wad out way before the iPhone 6

Heck no. Samsung Galaxy Ativ S image attached at bottom. looks nothing like the iphone 6. It supports Sdcards, has a removable battery, no glass panel at back, no drilled speaker grilles, and it runs windows 8.

caukerzee:

Samsung is the only reason Styluses are relevant today.

partially true, but only as applies to mobile phones, because Wacom has been doing just fine with stylus, being its raison d'etre.

caukerzee:

Heck, apparently apple brought back the stylus because of Samsung’s success with it.

I thought you Android people kept saying Apple brought in a stylus because of surface? Look, Apple has been doing very well more than Samsung. infact, year-on-year samsung mobile can only dream of Apple's profits. Apple brought in a stylus because it was a natural evolution of a touch interface on a canvas large as the iPad Pro's.

caukerzee:

There's a difference between CHEAP and affordable. ₦ 150 000 is not chesp

All prices are relative. To you ₦ 150 000 is not cheap, but to someone wealthier than you or with more disposable income ₦ 150 000 is chicken feed. A Friend of mine last year bought a Vertu Signature Touch for N2.2m.

caukerzee:

Samsung galaxy S6 actually matches the iPhone 6 performance in day to day use. Thanks to the E7420

Matches? Shame on samsung. A 2015 quadcore phone with 3gb ram is bragging about matching the performance of a 2014 dualcore phone with 1gb ram? how revealing!

caukerzee:

Android takes off the training wheels

The key appeal of the original iphone was "ease of use", and it remains so to this day. Boasting of having a bewildering array of features and customization that only serves to overwhelm and confuse the non-geeky users is hardly a plus, and does not help with user satisfaction ratings, where iPhone is king with the highest ratings.

caukerzee:

consumers have a swath of hardware and software to choose from

Which often leads to one of Android's key issues: fragmentation.

caukerzee:

access to key technologies, such as NFC pairing

This is a somewhat valid point, but then again all 1st party and 3rd party accessories for iphone certified by Apple always work seamlessly.

caukerzee:

4K screens that Apple doesn't think its users are ready for.

I've said this before. 4k on phones is meaningless. beyond 422 ppi any additional pixel is pointless battery drain. most people cannot differentiate between 1080p and 1440p, so UHD is just an unnecessary spec. Until the argument can be made that having 800 pixels per inch justifies the cost, GPU cycles, and battery drain, Apple is better off not bothering. However im perfectly OK with 2k. 4k will be useful only when VR takes where the pixel density will reduce the aliasing.

caukerzee:

Google's marketing tagline for Android is "Be Together. Not the Same." That makes sense, because the platform appears on hundreds of different phone models around the world. You can get Android phones with giant screens, small screens, built-in projectors, QWERTY keyboards and replaceable batteries.

True. So people who want choice or are on a budget have a place to go. However the walled garden approach seems to be doing good, since Apple is the only company on earth with $200b CASH at hand on account of the insane profits.

Here's an open secret: No one in 2015 made any profits selling Android devices!

Samsung is losing marketshare, HTC is going the way of blackberry, Sony is bleeding money, Lg is making loses, the chinese cheapos have zero margins, even Google isnt making much money since its primary revenue stream still remains ads, and ads on mobile devices are an anathema.

Meanwhile Apple made more money than the entire smartphone industry combined; and likewise for its PC business. Sure, Apple's shares took a small dive south but thats perfectly normal cycle of busniess around the time of product launches that are mostly evolutionary and iterative.

caukerzee:

Perhaps most important, there are many rugged Android phones that are made to survive being submerged underwater or dropped

Sony just advised people buying the Z5 Premium against placing it in water. And the Z5 has the highest Ingress Protection rating of 68 (IP68). It's practically water proof! OBviously no one in their right sense would want to chance plunging a complex and expensive piece of electronics device into water just for bragging rights.

caukerzee:

If you want a new iPhone today, you have four choices: the a iPhone 6s Plus, a midsize iPhone 6s and three old models: the similarly-sized

Like i said, doesnt stop millions from buying, and Apple from making a ton of money that your variety-producing Android OEMs can only envy.

caukerzee:

None of these is designed to take a beating

why should "taking a beating" be a necessary consideration, since you didnt purchase your expensive phone to subject it to abuse?

caukerzee:

Hardware is VERY IMPORTANT.

So said Nokia. Today Nokia is a footnote in history.

caukerzee:

Stop trying to belittle it's relevance.

It's irrelevant to the User Experience. All modern devices are designed to mask the underlying hardware, the engine. Because primarily the focus of your interaction remains the screen; thus, you communicate with the software on every interaction. Go watch the Surface launch video: Both members of the Surface design team Steven Sinorfsky (software) and Panos Panay (hadrware) called surface "a stage for windows", with Panos saying they beveled or chamfered the edges to make the hardware fade away into the background just to put the software layer front and center. Its an interesting and revealing metaphor that highlights the principle of the modern smart gadget.

caukerzee:

1. Microsoft Surface Pro 3 (Core i5, 4Gb, 128Gb and a 64Gb SD)

2. Apple iPad Air 2 128Gb

3. Samsung Galaxy Note 5 Duos and Galaxy S6 Edge + (arrived last night, 32Gb)

4. Photo taken with LG G 3

5. Plans to buy iPhone 6S Plus and Elephone Vowney insha Allah whenever i get another job, or contract.

So, i dont stick to one brand or platform. I mix and match.

Why is everyone assuming that the ipad is a direct competitor to the surface pro? When Microsoft anounced surface there 2 product lines: Pro and RT. Pro is x86/64 based to compete with Macbook Air and other Ultraportables, RT was ARM based to compete with iPad and other tablets. Microsoft killed the RT line in favor of the non-pro Surface which is x86 and competes still with tablets and lower end ultraportables.

As for sales, in the first quarter of this year Apple sold $9 billion worth of iPads, while Microsoft made $713 million from Surface. So yeah, Apple is really afraid of Microsoft tongue

These features don't 'confuse', they empower users with choice.

Which often leads to one of Android's key issues: fragmentation.
Android fragmentation in 2014 and beyond is a myth. A large percentage of Android users are still not running the latest version of the Android OS, Lolipop 5.0. And Google is making no bones about that, as itregularly posts the latest OS usage figures on its developer portal. Play Services is more important than OS installs when planning and designing an Android app. Play Services, introduced in 2012, is effectively a background download of core services required to run apps on Android. Putting the OS install numbers to one side for a moment, this is the stat that matters to developers – over 93 percent of all Android users are running the latest version of Google Play Services.

1. How can you say hardware is irrelevant to user experience? For 5K displays to be impactful, even greater levels of GPU acceleration are needed. Additionally, powerful graphics processing advancements are driving new user interface concepts, enabling your device to see, hear, and recognize you, using advanced face recognition, voice recognition, and real-time recognition of hand and finger gestures, biometrics and more.
2. You simply just gave me a really useless history less and didn't answer me. Apple is adopting more features from android than android is from apple. Doesn't matter who started first. A poor copy you say? Tell that to the 80% of the market who use androids.

LTE is capable of downloading at faster speeds than older, 3G technology, Clearly more CPU threads 8vs 2 (Apple A8), Distinctly higher GeekBench result 5478vs 1606 (Apple A8), Significantly faster CPU clock speed 8.0 x 1.5GHzvs 2.0 x 1.4GHz (Apple A8), 14nmvs 20nm (Apple A8), Uses big.LITTLE technology.

These features don't 'confuse', they empower users with choice.

So does Android's

It is a future proof spec. Believe you me, Apple in the future will adopt this technology.
Explain how apple, without those high Res screens produce worse battery life and battery management than most android Flagships?

Again the profits the make is non of our business. How well I'm satisfied with the products they churn out is the case. Android offers the luxury of choice, iOS doesn't.

These features are there, in the case of accidents not for fun and bragging rights.

There's something called accident. It can happen to anybody no matter how careful one is. You think one just wakes up one morning and says; "Hey! I'm feeling lucky today. Let me smash my phone over that wall!".

Tell that to the 80% of the market who use androids.

you know what? I'm bored with this topic, being one of those turf fights that never end. You like your Androids and Samsungs, fine, good for you. ive producst from various OEMs, so this whole thing is moot to me.

It's been an interesting back and forth, but here is where i move on to other things.

See you out there.
