3. Decomposition sets in,

4. In the course of decomposition, carbon dioxide and other gases are released,

5. The accumulating water and gases decrease the density of the body,

6. Flotation begins,

7. As more gases accumulate, the density of the body decreases further,

8. At this point, the body floats to the surface of the water.
