Oga Spyder, is it a good idea to connect the thunder arrestor to the (buried) charcoal bag using copper wire instead of the usual copper plate? Are there any pros and cons?

The right thing is to use copper tape as pictured and not electrical wires containing copper. The wires are too thin to act as earthing for the whole house.

The attached copper rod is what is used in lagos. It is attached to wires and buried in the ground.

There is a shaky beam in this house, built when the house was constructed. I have ordered my boys to knock it out and do another reinforced concrete beam on that position.

Thanks Madam Gabby.

Does it matter where the copper rod is mounted? Must it be on the roof, or can it be mounted on a long pole close to the building?

Well, it can be on a long pole close to your house... if you don't mind lightning ignoring the pole and hitting your house.

Seriously, your house - with all the metal in and around it - is a great magnet for lightning, and you don't want to take chances

You have a point. We'll put it on the roof.

Many thanks.
