SaharaReporters can authoritatively report multiple blasts taking place in Maiduguri, the capital of Borno State, this evening.

Our SaharaReporters correspondent learned that several blasts occurred in the Bulunkutu Dalla area of Maiduguri between 7:27 and 7:31pm.

A resident told SaharaReporters by phone that "there were three loud explosions in Dalla some minutes ago."

The number of injured and dead could not be ascertained at the time of publishing this report, but residents have told SaharaReporters that the number may be high.

Borno State has been at the center of the fight between Boko Haram and the Nigerian military. Today also marks the 55th anniversary since Nigeria’s independence.
