I got irritated yesterday when I realized that this year's police recruitment for graduates require buying scratch card for N1000.

Dont get me wrong, the money is not too much. Personally speaking, I wont join the Nigerian Police for any reason except if I'm to be the IGP or DIG. However it is wrong for graduates or any other category of candidates to be made to pay before volunteering to serve their Nation.

Last year, they made so much money from the sale of employment scratch cards that it generated severe public controversy.

Oh, Where is Nigeria going. We need God intervention here

Oh, Where is Nigeria going. We need God intervention here
I'm  sorry, and please don't misconstrue this as an attack on your  integrity. But tell me what the heck has God got to do with it. Our contry is sliding into perpetual decay and turmoil, ubiquitous corruption in all facet of our government with a few being the exception not the rule, a fast decline civil and technological infrastructure, a sovereign nation that is far from severing judging by the amount of foreign influence, and now a police system that encourages the use of scratch cards and a determinant to whether you serve your country or not. Mind you we have been blessed beyond our wildest dreams with an abundant of resources. Still all we can do is sit and say "we still need Gods intervention?? What else do Nigerians want from God??
I say we need smart human intervention, We need to enforce and abide by rule of law, we need to stop getting pushed around by foreign influences, we need to acknowledge and instill better civil rights law and amend the sobering excuse that we call our constitution of which, we have broken every tenet including the preamble of the constitution which states if i am correct.

"We the people of the Federal Republic of Nigeria

Having firmly and solemnly resolve, to live in unity and harmony as one indivisible and indissoluble sovereign nation under God, dedicated to the promotion of inter-African solidarity, world peace, international co-operation and understanding
And to provide for a Constitution for the purpose of promoting the good government and welfare of all persons in our country, on the principles of freedom, equality and justice, and for the purpose of consolidating the unity of our people".

I think it time to give God a break and stand up for ourself with a prayer in our hearts for strength in our long arduous journey towards the much needed change our great country deserve. Wouldn't you agree?

Even if they collect 1000 naira for recruitment, they should stop recruiting bandits and vagabonds into the system that is what has actually messed the police force up. i feel after the training, they should still conduct IQ tests for the recruits. thats when they'll know who went to buy his own graduate certificate(that's even if those conducting the thing are not guilty as well). They should take a cue from their foreign counterparts.

Infact i run down for everything.

@ Poster, if people had better opportunities, NPF is the last place they would think of joining.

British Govt begs people to join Army and police. You see advert on tv, radio and online everyday. My brother, if u really want to join army apply to join British army as a commonwealth applicant you can even get your British passport in 5 years only if you survived being send to Afghanistan.

On further thought, I realized that if awe all run from the 'bad' police force, who are the technocrats that will occupy it? Who will we blame if our security which is of utmost importance is left in jeopardy as it has been since independence?

In the so-called 20 best economies, highly intelligent people seek to develop careers in the force.
Something tells me its time for Nigerians to emulate that.

Like I said, I can be the IGP or DIG. Is that too much?

Nigeria, is one of the largest country in Africa-landmass and people's population;and according to the last census carried out by the Nigeria Population Commision, the country has about 140million people inhabiting it.Critically,If 40% are graduates(from OND upwards) and the polity still remains as it is,then there is a big problem we have failed to take cognisance of.Many of us came off a society that was bewildered by parents and the elderly jostling for us to get admission into the university to take a course and get a job just for the money to enter one another's pocket and not thinking of the long run effect.Lots of Regards to all those working with multinationals and NGO's.The rate at which Nigeria is lagging behind in all sectors of the federation is quite proportional to the decline in the educational sector, the Nigerian Police Force inclusive.
Come to think of it,success will never come overnite,i wouldn't want to compare the NPF with that of other developed countries. If security takes the highest % in the budget, even much more than the very sensitive educational sector, then there should be an outcry about the NPF and other Forces recognised in Nigeria.
Consequently, there should be a reform which will start 1 day, which i believe have started and before you know it,the NPF will surpass the achievement of the Banking sector in some years to come.
On that Note I wouldn't want Nigerian's especially graduates to give up on reforming the NPF, if you are not there, you can never be an agent of change, and if we always feel everything should be free, then why not a raised eyebrow about other Forces charging a 100% difference on sales of recruitment cards.
Anyways, its about what we can do for our country;if you feel you are a specialist or a professional in what you do and feel like protecting the integrity of your own people, then its time for you.May 18 is the deadline for application-www.recruitment.npf.gov.ng-if we can't change a whole, the little closet we have access to, could serve as a medium for so much change.
