5 Reasons To Be Excited About UEFA Champions League This Week by olawalemicheal: 4:52pm On Oct 20, 2015
Europe’s elite club football competition continues today with various teams seeking to solidify or improve on their current positions in their groups. We take a look five reasons to be excited with the round of games happening this week.

The hottest Striker at the moment comes to England.

The League of super-human strikers just got a new member in the person of Lewandowski. The Polish striker who recently smashed records with a blistering 5 goals in 12 minutes travels with Bayern Munich to the Emirate stadium.

Bayern Munich have transferred their superb league form to the Champions league with six points and eight goals in their first two games – without conceding. Unlike their German opponent Arsenal have been having a torrid time at the Champions League this season. Shock losses away to Dinamo Zagreb and home to Olympiacos has left Wenger and his boys bamboozled to say the least and now face an uphill task to reaching the next stage.

With Alexis Sanchez and Walcott offering the promise of pace and power upfront for the Arsenal and the immense brilliance of coach Guardiola’s Bayern side, this fixture promises to be an enchanting one.

Cristiano Ronaldo vs. Zlatan Ibrahimovic

The game between the Spanish giants and French Champions is arguably the hottest match to look out for this week. Major talking point of this fixture is the immense talent and records shared between Cristiano Ronaldo and Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

Both have impeccable scoring records and are all time leading goal scorers of their various teams. Both are confident in their abilities and believe they are the best in the world game. They also share recent history in the qualification for the just concluded World Cup with a playoff game held between Portugal and Sweden. Portugal emerged victorious in the fixture thanks to a hat trick from Ronaldo. Ibrahimovic’s brace was not enough to see them through.

Other players to look out for in this fixture are former Madrid star Angel Di Maria, the Argentine has been enjoying life in Paris and will be starting against his old teammates for the first time since leaving the Spanish Capital two seasons ago.

No Aguero? Super Sterling to the rescue

In form Raheem Sterling and his Manchester City team faces Sevilla at the Etihad. Without the injured Aguero Manchester City crushed Bournemouth at the weekend with Sterling netting a hat-trick and Bony getting a brace. Raheem Sterling’s impact on the team had been questioned since the start of the season but the 20 year old silenced his critics with his hat-trick display.

Another City star to look out for is record signing Kevin De Bruyne who has adapted seamlessly to life in Manchester having contributed to six goals (two goals, four assists) in just six appearances. Manchester City have injury woes in Aguero, Silva, Kolarov, Nasri, Diouf and Clichy and are up against a very determined Sevilla side who will be looking forward to cause an upset.

The question is, will Sterling and De Bruyne inspire Manchester City to a resounding Champions League victory over Sevilla or will Manchester City’s woeful run at the competition continue?

Morata is the new Tevez in Juventus

Last season’s finalist Juventus may be having a bad run in the Serie A this season but their Champions League form remains brilliant. The Old Lady of Turin have gotten maximum points after two games with Morata being pivotal in both victories. Last season saw Argentine Tevez spearheading the Juventus front line where together with midfield powerhouses Pogba and Pirlo they reached the final but lost to Barcelona.

Juventus line up against Borussia mogendablach in the third match day of the Champions League and with victories over Sevilla and Manchester City already are favorites to win this fixture.

3 points for everyone: A short tale of Group B

Group B in the Champions League is made up of Manchester United, Wolfsburg, PSV Eindhoven and CSKA Moscow and here’s the interesting part…

All teams are currently on three points.

Group B: PSV, CSKA Moscow, Man Utd, Wolfsburg

With a win and loss to each time after two games, group B teams would be looking to top the group by winning their games this week. Manchester United’s Memphis Depay will hope he is given a chance to make a statement on the field of play after sitting out last week’s League victory. The Red Devils square up against CSKA Moscow which has Seydou Doumbia and Ahmed Musa in their ranks, the duo have a total of 11 goals between them so far in the Champions League inclusive of qualifiers.

In what some have speculated to be a match of eventual second place winners in the group, PSV Eindhoven play Wolfsburg on Wednesday
