Here are four ways that you can hopefully start this new day that God has given you off right.


Waking up With Thanks
We are commanded to always give thanks for all things. Paul wrote to the Thessalonians to “ give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you ” (1 Thess. 5:18), so we give thanks for all things because this is the will of God. Waking up with gratitude gives you a better attitude.


The Priority of Prayer
What can we do in and of ourselves? Nothing, at least nothing of eternal consequence. But when we add God to the mix, we can do all things through Christ, Who strengthens us (Phil. 4:13). The opposite of this is true: We can do nothing if Christ does not strengthen us. The priority of prayer acknowledges that we cannot do anything of real value apart from God and that prayer is the portal through which we have access to the very power of God.


Bible Before Breakfast
I have had this custom so long that it’s perfectly normal for me now: no Bible, no breakfast. I need His Word so much that if I go without it, it’s like going a day without food and trying to work. The Bread of Life is Jesus Christ, and He is the Word of God (John 1). In His Word there is real power (Rom. 1:16, Isaiah 55:11). So why wouldn’t we want to start our day off with this power?


Joy and Praise
Years ago I asked my third/fourth grade Sunday school class if Thanksgiving was in the Bible. They said no, but then I said, “Yes, it is in the Bible.” But instead of Thanksgiving being once a year, it should be every day. We are to give thanks to God, but we’re also supposed to give Him praises and be full of joy. The thing is, if you are full of joy, you cannot help but praise Him. He is so worthy that if we didn’t praise Him, as Jesus said, even the stones would cry out (Luke 19:40).


Conclusion
I hope your day can start off with giving thanks to God; with connecting with Him through intimate prayer; by devouring the living, breathing Word of God; and by pouring out praise for all God has done, including the joy that has been given to us.
