That's not building collapse. That's failure in formwork being set down for the concrete. Looking at the picture they just they do fresh concrete when the formwork capsized. How building go collapse and people will be untop of it and not injured. That's caused by poor carpentry work because those woods no carry the strength of the concrete pour on it and the vibration of the concrete pump machine. 1 Like |

How come no one is calling for the head of the owner(s) of the building? When the Synagogue building collapsed, you all came here, on NL, wailing on top of your voices - "TB Joshua is the cause. He is an anti-Christ, a fake prophet. He used inferior building materials...punish him, prosecute him, jail him...in fact, kill him!". But nobody is wailing now. Why? Obviously, it was because of hate, jealousy. 1 Like |

Bluffly: I support you on this it's greediness coz they always like to re-use materials even when they know the materials as loose strength. E.g Wood which was the cause of what happen in the picture because they just dey cast the concrete with ready mix concrete ni. The machine pouring the concrete is powerful coz its using pressure pump to pump it. So the rush of pouring the concrete on weak formwork(wood) cause the capsized |

lifenajeje: Dont mind the cretinous retar..ds! The crane hit the cantilever and damaged it, exposing the re-inforcements. Negligence on the part of the concrete mixes supplier and the contractor. Sadly this project was already running late, and this will now further affect the delivery date and a host of other things!!!! |

Nothing like building collapse here. Looks more like malfunction of the hugging/parapets for the roofing |
Re: Maryland Complex Under Construction Collapsed Yesterday In Lagos by Nobody: 11:56am On Oct 28, 2015 |
Its the form work that collapsed not the complex, can't you tell the difference......this post is misleading |
Re: Maryland Complex Under Construction Collapsed Yesterday In Lagos by OMABYK: 11:58am On Oct 28, 2015 |
The incident reported earlier today about the "collapse" at the Maryland mall construction site was due to a failure of the formwork during concrete casting and not a collapse of any portion of the building structure. The props supporting the formwork was displaced by the boom of the concrete pump which led to the failure of a very small cantilever element approximately 28sqm being casted representing less than a percentage of total build-able area. This is not a structural defect in the building but a failure of the false work in the formwork system. However, no injuries have been recorded over the entire construction period till date. |

From the picture i saw, this is not a building collapse, rather it is a tower crane failure that ended up smashing the scaffolding structure and some part of the building. Am sure the damage to the building will be minimal judging by the pictures. |
Re: Maryland Complex Under Construction Collapsed Yesterday In Lagos by alaskido(m): 12:13pm On Oct 28, 2015 |
You call this collapse and people are still standing on top of the building. When you say collapse we intend to see rubbles all over the floor with no building standing. This is just a shift in a part of the building that was not properly erected. |

DICKtator: It might not be incompetence or sub-standards. Sometimes it can be just an accident. Because its a building the news is akin to a plane crash. Someone mishearing something on a two-way radio can bring a building down. |
Re: Maryland Complex Under Construction Collapsed Yesterday In Lagos by Walelavender(m): 1:11pm On Oct 28, 2015 |
Building failure isn't all about sub-standard materials. Other factors include failure in design, non compliance with standard and specifications coupled with weak supervion and the use of incompetent artisans. This is might be a structural failure. Where is NSE? |

That is very good of Nigeria and Nigerians. Let me aSk a Question - have you heard d news of any collapsed structure handled by a Builder by qualification or a Civil Engineer? So anyone who engages ANYBODY outside dese 2 professions and Qualification does this @ deir own risk. Most pple does not want to patronise professionals because dey don't want to pay professional charges. Even if a Tailor or an Accountant have the fund to Build an Hospital, they will engage the sservices of a MEDICAL. DOCTOR but construction av been abused to the entrance of any tom Dick and harry. |

For the sake of greed, we give a task that puts even our lives at risk to "quacks" and "incompetent" craftsmen all in the name of cutting costs and using cheap labour. The price to pay for negligence would always outweigh the outcome of a costly budget. We need to learn to do things the way they ought to be done. Not deceiving ourselves by procuring cheap materials or labour for something that would otherwise improve our well being. For many builders and stakeholders in the Real estate business, the industry has a wide margin for expansion so encourage quality and desist quantity. |
