if PHCN (or whatever they are called) aren't willing to at least foot her medical bills then the parents should sue. this is too much. this innocent young girl has her face marred for life for no fault of hers. transformers don't just explode spontaneously; there must have been warning signs which the so-called PHCN failed to attend to all the while. i can imagine how traumatic this must be for both the parents and the child.

Are there no minimum safety requirements for the installation of a Transformer?

The thing is just right in the street. No wall to protect the transformer or to protect people.

Problem is that we will not learn. There are hundreds of other transformers in worse conditions that pose even higher risks

to people and the environment. In my opinion we are even lucky with the poor safety standards. Arcs flash and blast would have killed a lot more

people that we do not hear about. Yet even after this sad event, no action will be taken. In saner societies all transformers will be identified

and there will be a full risk assessment. Cause Tree Analyses and other accident/incident investigation exercises will be carried out.

Recommendations will be made and implemented through directive and change in guidelines and standards.

But in Nigeria, no. Life is so cheap. If she dies or is burnt and disfigured what is their business there.

Shame on Nigeria and NERC. Country my arse, Regulators my foot.
