Re: 5 Things You May Not Know About Nigeria - Ali Baba by jomoh: 4:19pm On Nov 02, 2015
When PDP said PMB was "Demarketing" Nigeria, the first question that came to my mind and which I believe should be on any sane Nigerian is

How do you market a bad product?

Nigeria was thrown into deep trouble and we shouldn't create a smoke screen for the world to believe all is well when everyone knows we are in deepshit.

GEJ/PDP made Nigeria a very bad product that cannot be marketed

A good product needs no marketing.

The problem with PDP which is the same thing that got them booted out is the fact that they lived in denial. They claim that all was well when it was obvious that nothing was ok.

GEJ lived in denial for 2weeks before finally admitting that the Chibok girls were actually kidnapped.

He never accepted that Corruption was our major problem. He came up with the infamous "Goat and Yam Theory" instead.

He never accepted that stealing was infact corruption.

He refused to see anything bad in Jim Nwobodo stealing N5million which probably would be around N5billion today.

Okonjo told Nigerians that the country and economy was ok yet she started austerity measures. She later came out to accept that the economy was in bad shape. That the FG was in fact borrowing to pay workers.

The person with the greatest problem is the person who does not know he has a problem or refuses to acknowledge that he has a problem.

The first step at solving a problem is first accepting the fact that there is a problem.

That is what a responsible person would do.

That is what PMB is doing.

No matter how PMB shout that Nigeria is broke, many will still condemn him for saying that. Our country is full of people who like to put up appearances, even when they're dying, rather than speak out, they're rather remain silent and deceive themselves.

FALSE!!!NIGERIA IS WORLD'S 7TH. MOST POPULOUS COUNTRY AND 4TH LARGEST ENGLISH SPEAKING
vivianblog2:
Regarding what PMB is saying about how broke Nigeria is, I TOTALLY SUPPORT it. We are broke. We do not need to keep up appearances when our economy is disappearing. Do we still have an economy or just a market for foreign economies? If you are in a pit that you want to come out of, you must stop digging! Except you are making money from the depth of that pit you are digging. That is exactly why it's hard to assist some people in Nigeria.

One lady met me after an event the other day and told me of how she needs to complete her school fees of 185k. She only has 78k. I nearly gave it a thought then she asked for an #alibabaandi. And brings out an #iphone6splus. I guess that's what many people are expecting PMB to do.

Give the outside world we are OK look. No sir. Tell them of the potentials here. Tell them things have been mismanaged. Tell them that we are dealing with the thing that brought us here in the first place. CORRUPTION. Let the world know that they all had a hand in the condition we are in. Because our stolen monies have developed their real estate sectors & boosted the liquidity of their banks. Our stolen monies continued to boost their fashion industry. Let them know that our industries all died because of corruption.

And that they did nothing to help fight it. Tell them they welcomed the monies stolen with a bowl! And then sent us grants after making profits from same. PMB should not cover anything up! Tell them that whoever buys stolen crude from Nigerian vessels will be named and shamed! Tell them we are broke. Shout it. Tell them that in spite of that, we have natural resources and untapped potentials. We have NOLLYWOOD. We have numbers. Land. Waterways.

Rail sector begs for investors. Huge electricity needs. That's business waiting for them. We have a revitalized Code of Conduct bureau. We have CHANGE! So it's no more business as usual. Don't paint us good when we need help. You can't say your son is an A-star student fit for scholarship, when he can't speak well, read and write. We are not where we should be. It's good the world knows. If you have a load you want to carry, people will only help if u bend to carry it, not by just standing by it!

Many people are comfortable with telling and hearing lies. Thank God we have a president that thinks differently. When ur child comes defaecates in your sitting room, u don't use something to cover it up as PDP and some people want PMB to do. They forget that people will perceive the smell. All u do is to pack the faeces and clean up the place!!! This is where the late Dora (may her soul rest in peace) was trying to do with her rebranding policy but she also took the wrong method. She wanted us to pretend to the outside world that everything was well when it was perfectly otherwise. What some of these people fail to understand is that the world is a global village. If u steal from the state treasury in pakistan and as long as one person sees it and puts it online everybody else sees it all over the world!!! Most of our looted funds are taken outside the country. People see the luxurious lives our politicians are living both within and outside the country. Telling them we have when we don't have is like trying to be what u are not. Telling them we have when we go borrowing from them is hypocrisy. Telling them our system of education is the best when our students are even rushing to sudan for education is a fallacy. Telling them we have the bst healthcare when our people are running to india to treat headache is foolishness. Telling them power is stable when we are the greatest importer of generating sets is falsehood. We export crude oil and import fuel. When u know your problem, then your problem is half solved.

I usually don't pay too much attention to politics, it brings a lot of quarrel and misunderstanding but I am very interested in Statistics, this post states that Nigeria is the 3rd largest English speaking nation in the world after India and USA. Assuming this is true, just assuming o, then it's a shame because I am not sure what our ministry of education, or maybe foreign ambassadors are doing that Nigerians are made to take English language test if they want to study abroad, well, UK to be precise, that one I am sure of. To think that Jamaica is exempted from this test is amazing. That test is supposed to be for countries that English is not their lingua franca. I think our PR is poor. Just saying.

Nigeria has been broke for a very long time. grin

Signs of a Good Economy

Employment: 85% of Nairalanders are unemployed. grin

Stable Power: Generators are still one of the fastest selling commodity in Nigeria.

Security: When last have you felt safe in Nigeria? If in doubt about our security, look at the number of escorts the following types of people move with;

1. Expatriates

2. Government officials,

3. Even the Police and Army chiefs all need heavily armed security,

4. The rich and well to do.

Even Militants sef dey need security once them blow.. Even Abu Shekau needs security. grin

Good Road Network: As we speak, Port Harcourt has been cut off from Owerri.. Onitsha would soon be cut off from Owerri as well. As Soon as Abia cuts off from Owerri too, Biafra can claim independence in Imo State as the only way to reach the State would be by Air. grin

Productivity.. We are a consumer Nation.

Go to the Ports, The Ships that come into Nigeria are full of Containers, when they leave, they are almost empty. We are a Nation that produces Oil but Imports petroleum by-products.

Corruption.. This is a Nation where 20 Billion dollars just buy leg stroll, we lock up do like say Odeshi.. Meanwhile we had to borrow 1billion Dollars to buy arms to fight Boko Haram.

Instability.. The Niger Delta keeps boiling with the ever present threat of erupting. We are still paying militants not to militate in the Niger Delta. That matter is far from settled. Meanwhile Boko Haram are killing men, plundering villages, kidnapping and raping girls and buring down villages in the North daily. In the East, the clamour for Biafra is still strong. The Fulani Herdsmen and still wrecking havoc across stateliness, e.t.c. Political Thuggery is still rife in our democracy, e.t.c.

Education.. Nigeria today is filled with a lot of half baked graduates and our public schools are filled with unqualified and illiterate teachers. Today in Nigeria, quality Education costs way way way more than it ever did in history. The future isn't looking too bright on that front. Many of the Graduates you see coming out of school cant even properly fill out an application form without assistance.

Healthcare.. India is one of the worlds biggest Health tourism desitination in the world and Nigeria is one of its biggest market. A friend who went to get a Visa to India said its easy to mistake the Indian Embassy waiting room for a Hospital emergency room as most of the appicants are literally hanging on to life by the hair of their chinny chin chin.

Look at Akpabio who built a world class hospital in Uyo and commissioned it at a large party. Yet when was involved in an auto accident in Abuja, he rather flew 6 Hours + to London to get treated than fly 45 Mins to his Worldclass facility. grin

Friendly Business Climate: Lol.. Try to buy land, Omo nile dey wait you. Try to start cab business, NURTW go run you down. Try to enter Tanker business, NUPENG go run you down. Try to open store, government agencies from Environmental to health to name it go use stickers and levies run you down, meanwhile na you go still thruway your dustbin, provide your light, provide your water, still pay bills on top join, pay federal, state and local government tax, pay vigilante levy, pay Alaye levy, Agbero dey their own dey wait you.

The list too plenty. The truth is that we are definitely broke. That's why we keep borrowing money from the IMF and Worldbank and China on a regular.

The truth is that there is actually nothing to suggest that Nigeria is actuallya rich nation apart from the fact that we are an oil Producing Nation and that isn't enough to make us rich unfortunately..

Men body dey hot, no be small.grin

Well, I share a little sentiments With you when u mentioned about Indians (rape), USA ( drugs, gun violence etc and Mexico (drug cartels et all).
See, the issue here in Nigeria is that no one is taking about the things we are facing or the predicaments that as behold this country.. Its high time we stopped faking things. The USA might not be talking about their problems to other countries cuz presumably we agree they re world powers... Who should they talk to? Russia?
Bro, things are not going on well in this country and we need help... Help for investors to come in and develop a lot of dead industries.. Especially the rail transportation. sector

God bless Nigeria

How do you market a bad product?

Oh no, u didn't just say dat! Are u for real?? Do u even know wat it means to have the largest market in africa? Do u realize d myriad opportunities for investment in dis country dat is music to the ears of any savvy investor? And u refer to Nigeria as a "bad product"? #smh

FYI I'm not suggesting dat we deny d corruption dat has eaten deep into our economy. But PDP is no more in power for crying out loud! PMB shuld stop making noise abt d problems dat are being worked on and focus on keeping the economy from falling apart meanwhile, which is even more important. Broadcasting to the world dat our country is broke and corrupt WILL NOT inspire confidence for much needed foreign investment. It will only inspire pity at best, then disdain subsequently. Any wise foreign investor would never put his hard currency into an economy dat is unsteady. Moreso when its coming from d mouth of the president!

I am not a politician but i need to make a point here that it baffles me when People blame Jonathan for Nigerias problem forgetting that Jonathan only ruled for 6 years since 1960. Its obvious that majority of us in Naija have short memories and that is why we continue to make the same mistakes trusting in politicians that are only out to pursue their own selfish interest. We have forgotten that Obasanjo spent 8 years and corruption was part of us or Did Obasanjo kill corruption in Nigeria, Did Ya'radua kill corruption, Did Abubakar kill corruption, Did Abacha kill corruption, Did Babangida kill corruption and even with the so called campaign against corruption by Buhari as a military head of state, Did he kill corruption and down till 1960, Did any ruler kill corruption in Nigeria. The only person that really tried to do so in his little time was Murtala Mohammed. My argument is that if any of those past rulers had killed corruption, Nigeria will not be greatly engrossed in corruption till now. Abeg, when you castigate Jonathan, remember to do the same to those past rulers and our system that also encourage and favour corruption. I think its high time the president started working on how corruption will be the thing of the past in this country.
As regards the president going out of the country to paint the nation black in his comments about our poor economy and societal ills, i am not in support of that, and its my personal opinion. No one is saying the president should lie to the world about anything but the truth is that there are things that should be said and there are things that should be swallowed outside. There are infos that insiders should be privy of which outsiders must not hear from the head of a family having in mind that Naija is that big family and Buhari is the head. For many years, the western world has been painting us black and we are not always happy to hear retrogressive statement about us, now what will happen if the president himself is now the one making bad statement about us, How will they take us serious? No country is without one problem or the other. To me , i think the president goofed.
