Following their swearing-in, President Muhammadu Buhari yesterday assigned portfolios to his newly appointed ministers and there were surprises. While Abubakar Malami, SAN, bagged the Justice Ministry and Mrs Kemi Adeosun became the Finance Minister, most of the other speculations that had for weeks played in the public domain turned out to be wrong. But the good thing about the placements is that only few people would query the judgement of the President because to a large extent, he placed square pegs in square holes.

With his pedigree as a former Deputy Director General of the World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO), Mr. Geoffrey Onyema comes highly recommended for the Foreign Affairs Ministry while as a retired Brigadier-General, M. M. Ali is very fitting for the Defence portfolio. Mallam Adamu Adamu, one of Nigeria’s foremost and highly respected journalists, is the kind of reformer you need in the education ministry at a time like this. He knows the problems and is in a good position to proffer workable solutions. And with his background, experience and exposure, both locally and internationally, there are few more suited for the Industry, Trade & Investment portfolio better than Dr. Okechukwu Enelamah.

Former Army Chief, General Abdulrahman Dambazzau, with a doctorate degree in criminology, is a perfect fit for the Interior Ministry while Senator Udoma Udo Udoma, who superintends the Budget & National Planning Ministry is the right man for the job. Former Rivers State Governor, Mr Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, has the requisite public service experience for the Transport Ministry just as Chief Audu Ogbeh can now bring his expertise as a farmer to bear on his Agriculture portfolio. And at a period like this, you need a tested hand like Dr Chris Ngige in the Labour and Employment Ministry.

To the extent that the development of Solid Minerals is critical, Dr Kayode Fayemi has a yeoman job on his hands and so does Mr. Suleiman Adamu in Water Resources but they are equal to the tasks. While Dr Ogbonaya Onu’s credentials are most suited for the Ministry of Science and Technology, I don’t know who would doubt that Alhaji Lai Mohammed is made for the Information Ministry. Former University of Ibadan Vice Chancellor, Professor Isaac Adewole comes to the Health Ministry with considerable experience in the sector while Ms Amina Mohammed will use both her knowledge and global connections to help our country in the very important Ministry of Environment.

However, the most talked-about is the three-in-one Ministry of Power, Works and Housing handed to the former Lagos State Governor, Mr Babatunde Raji Fashola, SAN. But then in Yoruba parlance, Fashola is the sort of man you would describe in the superlative as an “Okunrin meta” in terms of capacity to deliver. I therefore believe (as do most Nigerians), that wherever you put Fashola, he is going to perform. What the president has done is merely an affirmation of that faith in the capacity of the former Lagos State Governor.

Finally, there is a popular saying attributed to President Abraham Lincoln that if he had six hours to chop down a tree, he would spend the first four hours sharpening the axe. Perhaps the same holds true for President Buhari, going by the time he has taken to assemble his cabinet. I think it is worth the wait as I wish the men and women the best in their new assignments. So now, let the real work begin.

I don't think President Muhammadu Buhari need much introduction as a talented hunter and a talent hunter.

One of the most impressive considerations in his appointment is the fact that he is not being carried away by the individual educational qualifications or theoretical background on alloted ministries which has been a bane to the implementation of practical and workable programmes, but like a street man, he chooses an on hand experience of passionate men with proven pedigree in the Nigerian soil.

Its a good team no doubt. My only fear is Fashola. That is a huge responsibility!! - ministries of Power; works and housing.
Yes he has handled all these ministries excellently well as the former governor of Lagos. But, performing well as the governor of the most complex state in the country is one thing, carrying it to the national level and sustaining it is another.
I have faith in Fashola to perform in any one of the ministries, but to combine the three at the national level seem rather ambitious. I pray for Nigeria's sake and for the sake of Fashola's political career that he does well and comes tops again.
May God make his tasks and ways easy.

I'm really counting on the finance, power and solid minerals ministers to deliver. These three sectors alone are enough to start a developmental revolution in the country.

OP, In your crooked post, you didn't tell us how Amechi is perfect for transport ministry.
Is it not logical that since Audu Ogbe is perfect for Agric as a farmer, that we should have searched for someone who has been in the transport industry to head the transport ministry. We have aviation experts who has worked in that sector for years. We have the transport moguls who succeeded in transportation business in a bad environment like Nigeria. But no, we chose to compensate those who sponsored our elections whether they can do the work or not. And you wonder why we are where we are.

While writing your emotional piece, you forgot to tell us if you would have chosen the same people if we make you the President.

I am highly optimistic that these men and women will deliver as they are not men from the moon or sky, but tested and proven men in the Nigerian streets.

BRFahola, a proven workaholic that change the faces of lagos Streets and lagosians, arrested a brigadier general for plighting one way, ceased contractor's equipments for non compliance etc.

Fayemi, an articulate researcher who can deliver a workable blueprint for prosperous solid minerals diversification.

Chris Ngige, a known reformer and performer, the avant garde of anambra development projects. He came, he saw and conquered in spite of conflicting interest of the bigwigs then.

Okechukwu Enelamah, a medical doctor con economist, he redefined the private sector in terms of industrious creativity and workable policies in the Nigerian studious terrain.

Ameachi was hailed as one of the best performing governor before distractions of PEJ set in. His doggedness and loyalty to the change movement will surely come to bear.

To be Contd....

Are you expecting the CEO of Young Shall Grow Motors, ABC Motors, Chisco Motors or the NURTW boss to be made the Minister of Transportation?

The Minister from Katsina State, who is a trained pilot is the Minister of State for Aviation. Don't forget, the Ministry of Aviation is now under that of Transport.

You could feel and touch the renewed hope and optimism Buhari's ministers seem to have brought to the lives of different Nigerians, irrespective of tribe or party affiliation.......except for some few disgruntled elements who will never see any thing good in Buhari's government.

Nigeria must be great again by fire or by force.

God bless PMB

God bless Nigeria.

Too much praise when little has been achieved.

If its by theory alone, Nigeria would have been a world Superpower long ago...let the ministers get to work and let us see the desired change and development, then we can start congratulating the Presidents decision making prowess.

Much Ado.

Perfect answer to those people that destroyed Jonathan's administration with their incompetence.

They want us to have the CEO of Ekenedilichukwu Transports as Minster of Transports just because they heard Transport.

No wonder Jonathan failed woefully.

Bunch of jokers.
