Igbos (blacks) claimin d same origin or lineage wit Jews/Israelis (whites)? Dat must b a joke of d century! But on a serious note, wen ar we blacks goin to b proud of our unique distinct identity? Wen ar we goin to stop twistin history just to attach ourselvs to pipo who care little about us (som racists)? Igbos ar typical negroes while d Jews ar semitic pipo relatd to d Arabs. Dere is no tangible similarity btw Igbos nd Israelis in terms of language, culture nd physical appearnce. If at all any tribe shuld claim Jewish origin, dat shuld b d Fulanis because it is well documentd in history dat d Fulanis were products of intermarriages btw negroes (d Sonnikes, Malinkes, Wollofs) nd North African Jews who fled d Maghreb to d Senegambia region of West Africa followin d invasion of North Africa by Arab Moslems. Even up til today, d (whiteman's) physical features common to all semitic pipo such as curly hairs, narrow nose, straigt face, thin lips nd light-skin can still b noticed in d bodily appearnce of many Fulanis.

The modern world Jewry are largely not connected by physical features but instead by religion and unique practices. Jews around the world have evolved to take the physical features of the races in their region of the world. The Bantoid Lemba tribe of South Africa were recognized by the state of Israel as authentic Jews despite their Igbo-like physical features. Same with Kaifeng Jews of China and the Indian Jews. Unique practices and/or the Cohanim Y chromosomes DNA testing were sometimes used to identify these people. That of the Igbos have long been known in Europe dating back to the medieval period with accounts from early explorers and slaves. So its nothing new. You need not look like someone else to be an authentic Jew, a view equally expressed by the current Israeli PM 10 years ago during one of the Ethiopians' airlift to Israel.

It's okay for a black African to embrace the Anglican (English) and Roman churches and the respective doctrines. Go to church every sunday as stipulated by the Roman emperor at the council of Nicea. But would be castigated if he attempts to explore his own essence. Even how his name came to become Chukwudi, Ngozichukwuka or Chibueze all before the white man arrived with christianity. Or question how his own people came about the doctrine of circumcision strictly on the 8th day. Honestly, black Africans are hopeless even as they will be the first to pretend to know all.

What sycophancy is greater than that?

After how many centuries of intermarriage u still expect physical similarity? emphasis is more of similarity in religious and cultural practices. and the connection with biblical "Eri" and "Gad" who we knew as part of our history before we suddenly discovered that they are in other ppl's history after we accepted christianity and read the bible

Is there any linkage btw the isrealis and my brothers, who are igbo........DOUBT!
The truth of the matter is that we all come from Adam and I think that's enough and better than claiming what you are not.

How are you sure say na eri and Gad wey dey Bible na him ur unwritten history dey talk about? Come to think of it.....is there any similarity in ur languages?.....even the Jews sometime ago denied this your claim, remember, they repatriated some black Ethiopians some yrs ago, who are recognized as Jews.
Bros, you may have to do more research, perhaps, to Somalia or south sudan..

LOL, I just dey laugh at this by Force attachment by Igbos to the Jews, some of them are so desperate that they be digging for even the remotest of clues to justify their claim; imagine pasting photos with one or two supposed oyinbo Jews as if that would make them anymore Jewish than dem dey claim; chai, one even went as far as quoting Wikipedia referencing one obscure offshoot sect (Messianic Judaism) without bothering to note that sect was a relatively new invention of the 60s/70s.

LOL, talk of serious insecurity syndrome ppl. na wa oO!
Na so dem sabi borrow borrow from obodo and claiming it as part of their original culture e.g. modern crowns, red and also woolen caps for their Igwes, chiefs etc. - just to name a few.

intermarriage with who millions of Igbo marry themselves.

what are the similarities? similarities doesn't necessarily mean same source. I could show u similarities of some other tribes in Nigeria with the Jews.

note this, your pronunciation of the word "eri" is fundamentally different from the way the Jews pronounce it.

there are also some yoruboid sounding words that the Jews use but Yoruba don't claim to be Jews

there are similar cultural practices all over the world, no big deal.

you guys can do DNA tests and trace your origin though. that is scientific and more believable.

If you truly seek all these things, and not merely a revisionist agenda fuelled by the insecurity of not having a 'great' past as dictated by said Judeo-Christian hegemony, then it is very easily found in academia and more directly from collating multiple oral histories (not ones that point to fantasies of Western Asian origin).

By the way, it was the European Christian missionaries you mentioned who introduced the idea of biblical migrations to the Igbo people.

Plus plus, circumcision on the eight day can be found among multiple civilisations, including groups now known as the Yoruba. Eighth day circumcision has been linked to science.

Seriously, d Igbos ar very funny somtimes. I can even prove to u dat Urhobo/Isoko pipo hav stronger nd convincin claims to d Jews dan d Igbos. We too practice child-naming nd circumcision, 8 days afta birth. In additn, many of d Biblical Hebrew names share similar meanings nd pronounciatns in Urhobo/Isoko language. E.g. Moses-draw out, "Muoze"-bring out here(URHOBO). Marah-bitter, "Nyarah"-bitter(URHOBO). Joseph-may he adds, "Josefe"-may he adds/attracts riches(URHOBO). Judah-praise, "Jiro"-praise(URHOBO). Jacob-he grasps d heel, "Jaboicabo"-he grasps d elbow(URHOBO). Peleg-division, "Bere"-divide(URHOBO). Moab-frm father, "Moibaba"-father's child(URHOBO). Babel-confused, "Ebabel"-difficulty/confusion(URHOBO). Noah-comfort, "Nohomah"-comfort/ease(URHOBO).

Mister, evidently, Ndigbo as a people have "great" present and past acknowledged by friends and foes. Dr. Henry Kissinger, a Geman Jew and the US Secretary of state in 1969, told the world that "

'the Ibo are wandering Jews of West Africa-gifted, aggressive, westernized, at best envied and resented, but mostly despised by their neighbors in the federation'

It wasn't a metaphorical statement. Thus, Ndigbo are only begining to embrace what they are and what the world have always believed they are and rightly so. I wouldn't want to infantilize our discussion by dragging in the Yoruba. There's a whole body of evidence corroborating Igbos' Hebraic tradition. Take it or leave it.

There's no Igbo Hebraic tradition. It's all false. Whatever Americans or Jews say about Igbo people is irrelevant. People shouldn't be basing their identity or celebrating because some Americans 'complemented' them. You don't need a Jewish or western past to have a great past.

We reason alike sometimes. The statement in bold is very true. I believe the Jews are specially favored by God, and so are Ndị Igbo. Ndị Igbo are not Jews and neither are the Jews Ndị Igbo. We are both unique and special in our own right.
That some scholars have referred to Ndị Igbo as the Jews of Africa, doesn't mean it should be taken literally. It just means that they are lots of similarities between the two groups.
