Yes, he is symbol of democracy by accepting defeat in an election he lost simply because African leaders are not known to concede defeat especially when they're sitting president. However, Jonathan was not the first to do it.
who was the first ? your papa I guess...

Jonathan may have just replaced mandela in terms of a global African face for democratic governance.
I won't be surprised if they create a '' jonathan fellowship for leadership'' programme in America just like they did for mandela.

I agree with you dude

But can Buhari do the same?

He lost elections several times and yet did not accept defeats that were obvious..

That's the difference between him and GEJ

I so much love GEJ.

A man of his words. A man of peace. A man who stand to uphold democracy.

A man who lay down his ambitions for peace to rein. Your kind is difficult to find in our modern days politics.

I respect you sire. You are an inspiration to me. A role model.

Let those that want to get HBP for your good governance continue...

Former United States President Jimmy Carter has described Nigeria’s former president Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, as a symbol of democracy on the African continent.
Carter, the 39th US President, said this when he received Jonathan yesterday at the Jimmy Carter Presidential Library and Museum located at the Carter Centre in Atlanta.
In a statement, the two former presidents held a fruitful meeting at the carter Centre where they held wide-ranging discussion on global issues and shared views on how to promote peace, democracy and good governance in Africa and the world.

Speaking on Jonathan’s time in office, Carter said: “President Jonathan is the symbol of democracy in action. You set an example that other African leaders should follow.”

The former American president further praised Jonathan for organising a transparent election and easily conceded defeat by handing over to the opposition, stressing that by doing so, Jonathan showed his deep democratic commitment.

In his remarks, Jonathan stated that his actions while in office were informed by his belief in a peaceful, transparent and people-oriented governance, adding that Africa can only move forward through democracy and good governance.

Jonathan also commended President Carter for the exemplary manner he led in his post-presidential life, adding that he was inspired by Carter’s commitment to causes which advance the path of humanity.

The statement said Jonathan and Carter shared a common experience as one term presidents and have both retired involuntarily from politics while rededicating their lives towards making the world a better place.

The dumbo lost an election and had to vacate the seat, what is special about that? A symbol of democracy that almost left us an empty treasury and encouraged the Pilfering of our commonwealth? Clearly, Carter is suffering from dementia. Jonathan was a mediocre; he has lulled himself into a false sense of competence. angry angry angry

Both Jimmy carter and Jonathan were one-tenure presidents and lost in their second tenure because they were bad performers. Who knows Carter in US achievements. What did Jonathan do in nigeria to earn re-election ? Nothing but outrageous looting of public funds along with those he gives free hands to steal because he fears them. A commander-in-chief afraid of his own people? Rubbish . Had he refused to concede defeat he would have been dead or in prison by now. So he loves his life and that of his family that's why he accepted defeat. He didn't want to behave like orubebe who didn't succeed to stop Jega from completing result announcement. He didn't want to die like African leaders that refused to concede defeat and were captured and killed.
