Has the Economist described the British equivalent as ''poorly qualified''?

Nope.

Meanwhile all he's got is a bachelors in Modern History.

When did the Economist of London become the judge over who takes any govt position in Nigeria?
If they are so good why is their economy almost into recession?
These white capitalists are up to something. Have their ways to syphoning our oil wealth been blocked too?
Their finance minister is not as qualified as ours because it is only a degree in modern history that is there to show.
Nonsense and ingredient people

Well I think it's a relative term. And after all we had a financial superstar tha wrecked our economy... For those pro-iweala peeps: economic meltdowns don't begin in 6 months... it takes years to occur... The fact is that our economy may have been the largest in Africa but it had no impact on the mostly poor Nigerians. Only the wealthy enjoyed it...

In her first stint she was able to put credible reforms in place that convinced our international creditors to write off our debts. In her second stint our economy achived the status of largest in Africa and she oversaw the take off the SWF and the TSA(which this govt is taking the credit for), as well as being the major force behind the push to introduce biometric verification of staff in the civil service.

You may hate the woman all you want but her reputation speaks for itself.

with a verdict that the Minister of Finance, Mrs. Kemi Adeosun, who has an Economics degree from the University of East London and a Post Graduate degree in public financial management from the University of London, is poorly qualified to manage the nation’s economy.

The report further quoted the lawmaker representing Kaduna central senatorial district in the National Assembly, Senator Shehu Sani, as describing the cabinet as “a government with local professionals and without superstars.”
With this verdict, the NASS members who screened them don't know what they're doing.

“However, the new finance minister, an accountant who cleaned up the books of one of Nigeria’s smaller states, is poorly qualified for the job.

What has Okonjo who cleaned the books of African countries as the then World Bank VP for Africa made of Nigeria economy.
Economist should leave us alone and find something else to write. We desire local people who understand the situation of our economy and not foreign thieves .

Well, she is NOT qualified. That is clear. The post will either overwhelm her or drive her to really work hard to prove us all wrong. She will have to get a very experienced person to be by her side.

She will not get a second chance if things go wrong. In any case, I see a cabinet reshuffle within 1 year.

English newspaper, The Economist, has undertaken a review of the newly constituted cabinet of President Muhammadu Buhari, with a verdict that the Minister of Finance, Mrs. Kemi Adeosun, who has an Economics degree from the University of East London and a Post Graduate degree in public financial management from the University of London, is poorly qualified to manage the nation’s economy.

It however described the Minister for Trade and Investment, Mr. Okechukwu Enelamah, as “a respected businessman”, but feared that he “may lack the clout to stand up to the president”.

According to the publication, “Africa’s biggest economy, which relies on oil for 70% of its revenue, is sputtering as prices fall. Economic policy has been adrift since Mr Buhari came to power, and investors complain about the central bank’s use of trade controls and import restrictions.

“However, the new finance minister, an accountant who cleaned up the books of one of Nigeria’s smaller states, is poorly qualified for the job.

“Her counterpart in the investment ministry is a respected businessman, but he may lack the clout to stand up to a president with statist leanings.”

The report further quoted the lawmaker representing Kaduna central senatorial district in the National Assembly, Senator Shehu Sani, as describing the cabinet as “a government with local professionals and without superstars.”
