fixed!

Igalas are just being fair to other tribes in the state, and that's why you can come here and cry 'oppression '. They can field an Igala-igala ticket and, it will fly.

I beg to disagree with your assertion. An Igala/Igala ticket will never fly and everyone knows this. That's why it has never been tried. By the way, isn't it ironic that after suffering years of marginalisation in the old Benue state the Igalas are perpetuating the same in a state made up of 3 major tribes? Nothing lasts forever.

Indications are rife that the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kogi state may produce two candidates for the upcoming November 21 governorship election in the state.

This is because the appeal panel set up by the national leadership of the party to review the primary election in the state, has called for the disqualification of the winner of the election, Prince Abubakar Audu, who is also the former governor of the state.

The panel indicted Audu on a variety of allegations, bothering on corruption and violation of the provisions of the constitution of the APC and the guidelines for the conduct of the primaries.

Recall that other APC aspirants in the primaries had challenged Audu’s victory, while the runners up at the election, Alhaji Yahaya Bello, had written a petition condemning the exercise.

Chaired by Dr Sam Sam Jaja, with Mr Ahmad El-Marzuq and Mr Tunde Imolehin serving as secretary and member respectively, the appeal panel in an 11-page report, called for the nullification of Audu’s election and asked the party to replace him with Alhaji Bello.

The panel made reference to the case o of Hope Uzodinma vs Senator Osita Izunaso, where the court insisted that ”a political party must obey its constitution”.

In his petition to the party, Bello had accused Audu of not resigning as a member of the BoT of the party before contesting in the primary, as stipulated in the constitution of the party in Article (I) iii which states that: “Any such party office holder or officer of the party who is interested in contesting for an elective position within or at a general election shall resign 30 days before the date of the nomination or party primary for that office he is contesting for.”

His argument is that “By virtue of his membership of the BoT pursuant to Article 14 (III) (e) of the 2014 Guidelines for the Nomination of Candidates for Public Office, such party officers are not allowed to vote as statutory delegates.”

According to a source close to the panel members, “Part of the findings of the report was that there was video evidence showing Audu casting his vote at the primary election. The appeal committee had already recommended that Audu be disqualified while the runner up in the primary election (Yahaya Bello) be presented to INEC as the APC gubernatorial candidate for the state 2015 governorship election.”

Some members of the party are already suggesting that the election should be shifted by a few weeks to allow the APC address the issues arising from the panel’s decision.

“In the event Audu is retained, Bello is not trusted to be willing to mobilise for him due to the loud cry for power shift by his people in Kogi Central. If Audu is substituted for Bello you, guess is as good as mine. That it has become clear to President Muhammadu Buhari and the party that the anti-corruption stance of the new government and its renewed commitment to rule of law will be jeopardized if it doesn’t do something about the candidacy of Audu.

“Yahaya Bello in his petition also raised the allegations of embezzlement of N11 billion and the court case involving the former governor instituted by the EFCC. Giving President Buhari’s staunch anti-corruption stance and APC change mantra of the APC, it is left to be seen if such a seminal report can be swept under the carpet,” a source told Thisday.
.....
Is that anti-party activity ?

Audu’s replacement: Kogi APC leaders divided on Bello, Faleke

Less than 24 after the remains of Prince Abubakar Audu was committed to mother earth, the leadership of the opposition All Progressives Congress may have settled for James Faleke as the candidate for the remaining supplementary election or a rerun, Vanguard can reliably inform.

There were meetings at Lokoja and Abuja by the leaders of the party on Tuesday, ostensibly to find a way round the circle of confusion engulfing the death of its governorship candidate in last Saturday’s governorship election that had been declared inconclusive.

It is yet to be known if Audu died before the commencement of collation in Lokoja or after the election was declared inconclusive.

It was rumoured that the former governor died after hearing about the inconclusiveness of the process due to the cancellation of close to 50,000 votes.

Meanwhile, a family source told Vanguard that Audu died in the early hours of Sunday. The concealment of the news of his death was said to have been informed by political exigencies.

The source said: “Prince died before daybreak on Sunday. But some people told us to conceal the news so as not to play into the hands of political opponents. The death was shrouded in secrecy because we got to know that Audu’s death was not natural”.

A group, Kogi United Forum has however called on the police to investigate a certain political leader from the South West over Audu’s death.

The APC has since discovered they have no luxury of mourning for two long with the cobwebs of legality weaving around the Kogi governorship. The past 24 hours has led to the appearance of many knives on the day of the elephant’s death. Many legal experts have been shedding light on the way out of the constitutional logjam.

On its part, the leadership of the All Progressives Congress have been holding clandestine meetings at both Lokoja and Abuja.

A source told Vanguard that President Muhammadu Buhari has instructed the National Working Committee of the APC to ensure the law, and not individuals, is satisfied by its decisions on the Kogi matter.

It is believed that the group loyal to Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu may have resolved to project Hon. Abiodun Faleke to take over the candidature of the late Prince Audu. The State Executive Committee of the party was said to have resolved to push the Faleke option through.

However, another group within the party which initially resisted the choice of Faleke as running mate, is bent on fielding someone from among the aspirants who contested the party’s governorship primaries in August.

Efforts at reaching the Chairman of APC in Kogi, Alh. Haddi Ametuo proved abortive as he failed to pick calls made to his phone.

He was said to be attending meetings related to the governorship election in Kogi.

A source who is a member of the State Working Committee of APC told Vanguard on condition of anonymity that the party is under tremendous pressure to go with Faleke.

“It is true. We are under pressure to ensure Faleke becomes the next governor of the state. But some of our leaders are insisting that Yahaya Bello is the right candidate to step in. Nothing has been decided yet but the thinking now among the State Executive Committee is to support Faleke”.

The Presidency’s Angle

The source also told Vanguard that the body language on the corridors of the Villa doesn’t favour a Faleke candidature.

Many chieftains of the party at the Villa are said to be rooting for Alh. Yahaya Bello

They are sticking with Faleke as deputy. So they need an Igala Muslim to replace Audu amongst the 28 governorship aspirants that contested in the primaries that produced Audu. Echocho was not among the aspirants. Ocholi and Faleke is not possible because it would be Christian/Christian ticket. This thing is as simple as ABC. I don't know why our people use sentiments to analyze political issues.
If you look at the results, you would notice that the Igala aspirants got low votes. For instance Yakubu Mohammed of Newswatch and Zakari Jiya got 0. I heard they they gave their votes to Audu. They told their delegates to vote for Audu so that an Igala would emerge as candidate. Ocholi on the other hand has been having problems with Auud. He refused to compromise that why he got almost 1oo votes.
