This might be rather odd but i have to post this anyway.

Is there anywhere in lagos where real modification of cars are being done (not the usual rim changes and little stuffs).I mean body part modification, fabrication of subwoofer enclosures, engine pimping and so on.Is there anyone that does that here (or anywhere in 9ja?).

Something like what's in the pictures.Any hints?

@poster,

one of two choices, either make you go owode onirin or Alaba, just take the picture of what you want, Nigerians are versatile with a can do attitude,  'YES WE CAN'

The modification scene [Mod scene] is still in its infancy and almost none existent in Nigeria. I had a mitsubishi fto and Smart car in the past and I can say those are the time I have been involved with the modification scene here in the UK.

While things like body kits made from custom made fibre glass etc, modified headlamps, engine tune up, sexy wheels, complex *paint work and remaps are readily available. I think Nigerians are mostly interested in the car moving them from point A to B. Once there is extra cash for majority of the masses, then we can start looking the Mod scene taking off massively in Nigeria. At the moment, people will probably stick to the basics.

*For example, the colour changes depending from what angle you are looking at it. It may change from metalic grey to sort of a blackish tone colour. cool They look good on most cars, and a single deep scratch may mean a whole car repaint, Who will be willing to do that in Naija? Apart from the rich boys? grin

They are Arabs isnt? I have seen their videos and while they have the money, some would argue that their approach is a bit tacky. undecided

Here is a youtube video.

It can be done in Alaba, you will have to explain to them what you want,
am very sure those guys over there can really love-vendor a car up if the price is
right. cool

As far as the posted images are concerned, this is the best response for clarification so far.

Well i think nigerian mechanics have to start with proper restoration 1st. At least that just entails putting a classic car e.g the Old Passat back to its glory state. After we ve perfected the art of restorations we can then start thinking of 'pimpin'.
I think even an average civil servant wouldnt mind seeing that his Old Beetle parked in his Father's compound come back to life (to its manufacturing state of course) and he will be willing to pay installmentally to have it done. Most of the autostyling you see on web pages actually takes years to achieve? And they never stop modifying.

I agree with that.

I wont mind seeing my dad's 505 evolution restored. cool Or the old chooper bike [anyone remember this?] brought back to live with the gear working etc. cool

you just read my mind,    if that's the kind of modification you're looking  for your car, what if you want to modify your house? Vehicle modification is far beyond converting a car to a studio.

It is very subjective isnt? The link I posted earlier one is an example of tacky and useless modification to a car. Even most of the mods done on "love-vendor my ride" have no taste in my opinion.  I have been to car shows and my god, with the right mind and creative people, there isnt a limit to tasteful design.

Speaking of tacky mods, I remember seeing a 42inch plasma screen at the inner back of a van. I mean, what is that about? Also things like putting massive wheels and spinners just don't dont it for me. I  like subtle design, I like to retain the original car handly or at least improve it. etc,  smiley
Re: Are Real Vehicle Modifications Being Done In 9ja? by ElRazur: 11:17pm On May 26, 2009
Stuff like these are tacky in my opinion.

I dont like the massive wheels or the flamethrower decals.

I dont like this one either, the kit is too "in your face". However, the paint work looks nice. smiley

aren't there more tasteful ways to arrange speakers and subwoofers in a car?
Re: Are Real Vehicle Modifications Being Done In 9ja? by mccloud224(m): 11:33pm On May 26, 2009
It's a lil overdone but still tight though, in any case, taste differs.

Try getting out of the flying car alive while the doors spin!

Boys are their toys!

You need to think though about the lifespan of cars in Nigeria. Is it with those useless roads you will spend thousands pimping out your car?
Re: Are Real Vehicle Modifications Being Done In 9ja? by Nobody: 8:37am On May 27, 2009
Don't have the pictures but a guy at my school had suicide doors( like the type on lamborghinis') on his '98 Accord(baby boy). It was very cool though it started having issues after a while due to substandard fabrication.
Re: Are Real Vehicle Modifications Being Done In 9ja? by emmydee(m): 9:42am On May 27, 2009
if we can get a good car pimping service centre in Nigeria, it surely would b great biz.
Re: Are Real Vehicle Modifications Being Done In 9ja? by atilla(m): 9:45am On May 27, 2009
there was a guy on nairaland about two years ago that used to do this, i think his name was Sean50 or something like that . He used to do paintwork, and suicide doors, im sure by now he would be doing modifications to the interior.

Search for 'love-vendor my ride naija' on nairaland.

musik man, u rock, modifications r possible finishing may b an issue
u will require quite a no. of specialist to work on the car. but ur ears man, u plan on blowing em off ha ha,
plus in my opinion such alterations affects the calculated balance of the vehicle making it unsafe unless its just a paint job, watch out fro molue undecided
Re: Are Real Vehicle Modifications Being Done In 9ja? by richo2: 10:37am On May 27, 2009
instead of wasting money pimpin a car that just takes me from place to place. . . i'd rather make my crib more presidential. u know wat am sayin. . . get a water cistern with  butt massager  cheesy and some first class shit

the poster didnt ask for your opinions, all he asked for was is there a place in Naija where car modifications are done simple . 2 * 2 = 4 . no greater than or less than, too much talk

Suicide doors always have issues in my experience. The only ones who seem to last forever are the real ones found on super cars.

A thread about car pimping, and then people discussing pimpings, modifications et al. Yeah you are right, it is soooooooo not on topic. undecided Only that your contribution so far is not exactly any addition to the topic at hand. Gosh! The irony.
