President Buhari needs to stop creating distractions for himself by projecting male chauvinism. Shaking hands with women as a politician and leader of a secular state can never be taboo. Handshakes stricto sensu do not have a singular meaning or significance. Its meaning varies based on the occasion, culture and intent. Hence it could serve as a symbol of support, encouragement, ennoblement, congratulations, greetings, salutation, farewell, camaraderie and possibly intimacy.

Interestingly, intimacy is the only scenario where some religions sanction handshakes with the opposite sex and it is necessary to note that these sanctions tally with the culture and understanding of religious practitioners at time. The suggestion was about intimacy and marriage. Handahakes are now being made the new poster boy for this misinterpretation.

Well, I think the important message here is that denying female ministers a handshake as a president of a multiethnic/ polyreligious/secular society like ours shows a poor understanding of what a handshake in our modern day political culture signifies. If your intentions are all formal, respectful and clean; why deny your female team members a deserved handshake? It is alien to us to deny qualified women handshakes in a formal work environment when the need arises. Please, these women who have earned their spot on the table deserve to be respected like the Queen. Shaking the queen and denying same to our Nigerian women who have earned their spot on the table, is like telling England you are their slave - whilst you shake their queen, you deny your own queens a presidential handshake - Not good Mr. President, not good!
God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria

@Op should have attached a pic of President Buhari shaking an attractive, sexy, and scantily clad lady instead of that of the President shaking the 90+ yr old queen.

Shaking an old woman like that is quite Ok, but it is better not to shake a woman than to do it and become tempted. If your finger will make you sin, it is better to chop it off.

A typical Nigerian hypocrite; holier than thou; church goer; self deceiver; political bomboy; ndi ebeano, whilst a champion of porn, a chronic luster, a cheat, a corrupt soul, a rotten mind. Now bugger off if you have nothing to say!

You are usually sensible, but I'm afraid this thread of yours belongs in the dust bin.

I wonder if PMB really understands his religion proper as a sunni. As a sunnah, once you shake a lady you ought to do abolution and 2 Rakat. Shaking a lady is comparable to taking hot charcoal.

The question is if PMB is lazy to do abolution and 2 rakats or he lacks discipline to control his third leg?

Reminds me of one prank we did while growing up by an uncle. It involves tickling the palms of females during handshakes.

I heard some old men still practices to subconsciously pass sexual intent straight up on a first handshake.

Maybe Bubu is scared of his fingers straying. Don't blame him cos everyone knows their limits.
