Tinubu Insists On Faleke For The Kogi Supplementary Election by Monimatic(m): 6:35am On Nov 30, 2015
There were indications last night that leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) were still divided over the choice of Alhaji Yahaya Bello as the party’s candidate for next Saturday’s supplementary governorship election in Kogi State.

While the national leader of the APC, Asiwaju Ahmed Bola Tinubu and a group loyal to him in the party are insisting that Yahaya Bello’s name be withdrawn for Hon James Faleke (late Prince Abubakar Audu’s running mate) following the submission of Bello’s name by the party last Friday to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), other party chieftains have kicked against this saying Bello’s choice and subsequent nomination be maintained.

This is coming just as the INEC has given the APC until tomorrow to present a replacement for its late governorship candidate, Prince Abubakar Audu, for the Kogi supplementary election.

LEADERSHIP had on Saturday reported that Bello who came second during the party’s governorship primaries on August 29, 2015 was chosen by the party to replace the late Audu after the demise of the governorship candidate, following INEC’s declaration of the Kogi governorship poll inconclusive.

It was gathered last night that although Bello had been nominated and his name submitted to INEC late Friday evening, some powerful stakeholders in the APC want his name replaced with that of late Audu’s running mate, Hon. James Faleke.

It was learnt that the bid by the party to present Bello as its new candidate reached a stalemate yesterday when leader of the party and former Lagos State Governor, Bola Tinubu was said to have insisted that it was either Faleke or no one else stepped into the late Audu’s shoes.

A reliable source in the party told LEADERSHIP that when it became glaring that Tinubu and other stakeholders angling for Faleke would not budge an inch, the national chairman of the party, Chief John Oyegun told them that with their fixed position, the development indicates that the APC might end up not having any candidate for the Kogi supplementary governorship election slated for this Saturday.

The source, a senior party official, who sought anonymity because of the sensitive nature of the matter, told LEADERSHIP last night that if care was not taken, the party may yield to the pressure by the stakeholders who are insisting on Faleke’s candidacy because of the allegation against Bello that he is a mole in the APC working for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

He said, “The argument being canvassed now is that it should not be Bello because he allegedly worked against the late Audu’s bid to become governor. There is so much pressure on us to withdraw Bello’s candidacy in view of the crisis that the choice has generated as well as the fierce protest it is causing in Kogi State.

“Right now, we are at a crossroad because nothing has divided the party like the choice of governorship candidate for the Kogi supplementary poll. Our only saving grace is that INEC has given the party till Tuesday (tomorrow) to take a final stand on the matter.

“As we speak, national leader of the party, Asiwaju Tinubu and his group are insisting on the withdrawal of Yahaya Bello, while another group supporting Bello are also kicking that Bello’s nomination remained. The chairman is presently confused and threatening to withdraw Bello’s name and Falake’s thereby leaving the party without any candidate,” our source said.

The party stakeholders insisting on Faleke’s candidacy are contending that he deserves it because he was everywhere with the late Audu campaigning vigorously for the election, and that it would be unfair to deny him what he laboured for and favour someone who was even working against the APC candidate and the party’s interest.

INEC gives tomorrow as deadline
Meanwhile, INEC has given APC Tuesday (tomorrow) deadline to present a replacement for its late governorship candidate, Prince Abubakar Audu, for the Kogi State supplementary election on December 5.

This was disclosed by INEC’s director of voter education and publicity, Mr Oluwole Osaze-Uzzi. He also said he is unaware that a replacement has been submitted by the APC over the weekend.

INEC had last Tuesday granted the APC permission to fill the vacancy created by the death of Audu, same day it declared that the supplementary governorship election will hold on December 5.

The commission, while acknowledging that the party has officially written to it over the demise of its governorship candidate, notified the 22 political other parties that participated in the November 21 election of the date for the supplementary poll.

When asked if the APC has submitted a replacement ahead of the supplementary election, Osaze-Uzzi said, “I am not aware”. He however disclosed that Tuesday was the deadline given to the APC to submit its replacement for its late candidate

Ordinarily, this matter should not generate so much controversy as it it currently generating if politicians are ready to do the right thing irrespective of personal interest. Audu and Faleke contested jointly and won the election. After Audu's death, it's only normal for Faleke to step up and take over the mandate.

Bringing in Yahaya Bello after over 90% of the election had been concluded and won is very pointless. It can never withstand any legal scrutiny. APC should do the right thing and stop courting trouble.

Has the elections been concluded
Yes or NO
It’s noteworthy to mention that any mistake by the APC and INEC could lead to the PDP taking advantage of such loophole. S 87 of the Electoral act plays a pivotal role in delimiting the pool of candidates through which APC can pick its candidates from. The All progressives Congress had held a Direct primaries for the selection of its governorship candidate and Alhaji Yahaya Bello emerged as the runner up. Permit to reproduce the provisions of S87 (1) (2) and (9) of the Electoral act
“-(1) A political party seeking to nominate candidates for elections under this Act shall hold primaries for aspirants to all elective positions.
(2) The procedure for the nomination of candidates by political parties for the various elective positions shall be by direct or indirect primaries.”
Alhaji Bello gains the advantage of this section has he participated in the primaries as well as screening stages conducted by the parties, the Deputy governorship candidate could have had the seat comfortably and staked a better claim if he had contested the primaries but its quite disheartening to find out that he didn’t S87(9) disqualifies him effectively
Where a political party fails to comply with the provisions of this Act in the conduct of its primaries, its candidate for election shall not be included in the election for the particular position in issue.
Section 141 of the electoral act also disqualifies any other candidate inclusive of Faleke, Mohammed Audu, Echocho and a host of others that may be interested in the governorship ticket as it reads thus
“An election tribunal or court shall not under any circumstance declare any person a winner at an election in which such a person has not fully participated in all the stages of the said election.”
On this basis it is not too difficult to see on what premise the All Progressives Congress bases its choice of Alhaji Yahaya Bello the Runner up in the APC Governorship primaries as its substitute for the late Prince Abubakar Audu

APC won't last as a party. They are just a conglomeration of different politicians with different vested interests.

I wouldn't blame anyone who believes Tinubu was behind the grand scheme of making Faleke a deputy governor so that he will emerge as governor after killing Audu. If Buhari is not a dullard, he should be watching his back as well because Osinbajo must have been planted there for a reason. Tinubu has an agenda which is obviously different from those of Buhari or Kwakwanso or Rochas. They are not united as a party and thus will crumble.

It's a concluded election already bro. Only 25k can vote and will never upturn a 41k deficit, unless if 6 is greater than 9 grin
Even a non-indigene of the state, if fielded will win.

Who made Kogi State an Igala land? Can Igala people produce governor unanimously without the the other tribes? When the Ebiras and Okuns are agitating for Kogi State the Igalas were agitating for Okura state. The Igalas are merely accepted to Kogi State as neighbours and because of lack of unity among the Ebiras it self made them to continue ruling and you are here saying the state is Igala land. Check out the primary election results, 2nd, 3rd and 4th were Ebiras. Combine them together and tell me if the late Abubakar will be able to smell victory if the Ebiras had combined their vote for one person as the Igalas does. Rubbish. Igala People who were called agatu (labourers) in the then Benue state before kogi was created now have mouth to say rubbish because of disunity among other tribes.

May Audu's death cause more confusion to them all, when those Igala's turns to Ebira land during 2007 election, non of sons and daughters of Ebiraland can go home due to the selfishness crises bestow on them by Igala's. As for Faleke who don't know much about Kogi politics, I'll advise him to get back to his Lagos base and continue representing the people who gave him mandate in Lagos. Or else, Tinubu will just waisted his precious life as he has done to Audu. Ask any Igala man that what does their late king tell them before he die and also Does the present king support Audu's third term ambitions Their more into this issue than what is posted online to the public. Last but not the least As Muhammed Audu the first son of Audu accept to step into it

Someone who should be concerned that Faleke may be tried and jailed for electoral CRIME of double candidacy across two states is making noise.
Kogi people I pity una oh. embarassed
Anyway the APShit crooks are used to breaking our laws anyhow.

theoctopus:
This is what is currently happening in Lagos West Senatorial district featuring Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Honourable Solomon Olamilekan Adeola alias YAYI.

On 6th of Feb 2014, YAYI Adeola in Ilaro, Yewa South LG of Ogun State, registered to contest for senate, Ogun West.
All of a sudden, with the help of his in-law Tinubu, YAYI surfaced in Lagos West after losing out in the APC primaries in Ogun West.

There are three senatorial districts in Lagos and Tinubu’s family members are jostling for two of those. It's on record that Solomon Olamilekan Adeola - YAYI married from Tinubu’s family. I'm also aware that Tinubu’s wife is the incumbent senator for Lagos Central.

Are there no other candidates the APC can come up with. Why must they be from Tinubu’s family? Do we need a confused YAYI in Lagos West? Has Lagos become the waste dump of Ogun state?

It is obvious YAYI is after his personal interest and those of his godfather Tinubu. ‪#‎LagosWestDeservesBetter‬ than him and APC

Now you can understand when they say APC is Tinubu's business enterprise

A man would just sit down in his house in bourdillon, ikoyi and start imposing candidates on other states. Let the Kogi people decides, Faleke can't be representing people of lagos and later come to Kogi to rule the people of Kogi state, When we have competent people that are born and brought in the state that can govern.

Is it possible for a Kogi lawmaker to come down to lagos and rule?
