Akuko... Story story, story.

Buhari is gradually trying so hard to reduce freedom of speech and expression. He obviously doesn't like the criticism, well news flash... It's not everyone posting false information that's in Nigeria... This is yet another reason why GEJ is/was better than Buhari. Oya come an arrest those in foreign countries... Rubbish angry angry

Rather than sponsor bills that will create jobs and wealth for the population, reduce their expenditures and formulate new policies that will stimulate growth, they're more concerned about their publicity and image. They haven't seen anything, this is only the beginning.
lolz, the bill was not sponsored by buhari but sent naallah, . If federal high court make a judgement you will shout buhari, if senators propose a bill you will shout buhari, if local government chairman do something you will shout buhari. hahaha, you get beef with am before ni?

That will teach people to say only things they can prove. Your freedom of speech shouldn't damage my reputation.

Why do you think the CIVIL laws for defamation, libel etc and related reliefs in damages and costs to the offender are not enough and we must resort to JUNGLE justice criminalization of democratic discussions?
Why

Must we all run away to the US, Canada, UK etc to enjoy basic freedoms of civilization
Ironically these politicians keep their families there while behaving like monkeys & baboons at home. undecided

That ought to put the silly bloggers and lazy journalists in check. If you cannot investigate a story properly before publishing it, then find something else to do with your lives.
The government is trying to silence you, so you suffer and don't complain, yet, you say this? Oh lord!

Very sad we have finally started our journey down the slope. We now must suffer in silence. How did we even get ourselves this far? Well, time will tell and no thanks to our 'progressive' youths who plunged us into this mess just cos of hatred for one man who God has blessed. Four years will soon be tomorrow. Issorait, carry go.

You are yet to reveal what this jungle justice is. The law clearly legislates against falsehood. If you make a statement that isn't false, you needn't be bothered.

CRIMINALISING acts for which adequate CIVIL remedies exist as is the case in other civilised societies is a return to JUNGLE justice despite the campaign promises of the change chanters.
IF I make a statement that is false, I should be bothered about the costs of civil litigation and damages to be awarded against me. is that not enough What is wrong with that as a remedy to the person who alleges that such a false statement has been made against him. Can you please tell us

If this bill scale through and eventually becomes an act of the parliament, I pity El-Rufai because, he might be the first to be convicted on the account of his malicious posts. Hope they are willing to review the immunity clause for some elected officials so as to create a balance in enforcing this law. Osho, Lie, El-Rufai, Okorocha, etc...

Whatever happened to the law of libel and defamation of character through which a wrongly slandered person can seek redress from the court of law ?
I fear we are about to introduce quasi-military laws into our nascent democracy with very ominuous foreboding for us all.
When you read about the quality of legislative debates in the western world on issues like euthanesia ( mercy killing), Genetically Modified Foods (GMF), Space research with the aim of finding other habitable planets, the role of technology in military warefare, medicine and other issues; you can't but wonder why our legislators love to sponsor unnecessary bills that have no meaningful impact on the citizenry.

The politicians of the ruling party at the federal level are not likely to be prosecuted under such a law.
Why
Only the police, a federal EXECUTIVE agency, can charge offenders to court for CRIMINAL offense.
As long as "you are loyal", nothing do you. The day you show ANY sign that is "interpreted" as disloyal to the party leader you are in soup. FASCISM is here and some of the lawmakers pushing for this RESTRICTIVE bill may be casualties also at some point.

That effectively stifles opposition and constructive criticism that will DESTROY our progress for development.

Why would any sane Nigerian patriot want such for our country
