The Oodua Peoples Congress (OPC) on Saturday said its attention has been drawn to news “circulating in the media, some with the picture of its National Coordinator, Otunba Gani Adams kicking against the plan of pro-Biafra group to stage their protest in Lagos.”

The group said that the reports were reckless and sensitive, noting that the statement cannot be traced to OPC as led by Adams.

OPC Director of media and publicity, Yinka Oguntimehin, said the group never issued any statement against any tribe or body over their right of association or protest as long as such a protest was peaceful and security of lives and property was assured and monitored by security agents.

“The Igbos have a population of over 35 million spread all over the world, some of them have stayed in Lagos and indeed the South West for over 40 years.

“It is not the purview of OPC to deny such people their right to determine their future and membership of the country as contained in the United Nations Self Determination charter of 14 December 1960.

“The United Nations General Assembly adopted General Assembly Resolution 1514 (XV) under titled Declaration on the Granting of Independence to Colonial Countries and Peoples provided for the granting of independence to colonial countries and peoples in providing an inevitable legal linkage between self-determination and its goal of decolonisation, and a postulated new international law-based right of freedom also in economic self-determination.

“Although the Igbos do not allow Yoruba such freedom in their region as they enjoy in South West, it is not a reason to go against their decision to self determination.

“However, if they step out of line allowed in the constitution, the Federal Government should do the needful by making use of the security agencies.

“The position of OPC on self determination is clear as we are in support of true Federalism and Statism, but we are not in anyway against the choice of Ibos to self determination.”

The statement pointed out that one Shina Akinpelu issued the anti-Biafra protest, advising media houses to shun further releases from the name.

“Akinpelu is a dismissed member of the Congress and he has no mandate of the congress to issue any statement,” it concluded.

I'm not against this Biafra movement. All I want is that they should leave the South out of it.

It is only savage and miscreants that threatens war and dispossession of other men's property when the issue of secession is mentioned.

The worst is that these anti-Biafra are the most haters of the Igbos and their progresses claiming to know what's best for the Biafrans.

I can understand when a loved one wants to say goodbye but the logic of living with "a supposed hated parasite" is beyond logic.

In that case, it is now suffice to say that Nnamdi Kanu is certainly a miscreant and a savage. It is on record that he once told his listerners to kill Pastor Adeboye, Pastor Kumuyi, and to burn all Yoruba owned churches in the south east.

Here is a video clip of him asking the igbos in diaspora to donate him money that would be used to buy guns and ammunitions to wage war against the Nigerian state

This ppl and this their usual way of reasoning. In the religiously intolerant Kano, Igbos have strong presence and influence more than yorubas despite igbos being christians and yorubas being half muslim. Igbos ar the most attacked both in north and west, no record of others being attacked in igboland except in rare cases during a reprisal

The federal government must ensure this miscreant never smells the air of freedom again.....we have enough evidence to convict him for at least a lifetime in jail if not, death by firing squad... angry

seems as if igbo were backward faced in movement, if not, just six years of Nigeria aged, igbo realised Nigeria marginalised them, dominated them, wants separation, went into war, lost not only the battle but the war at large, being a backwards faced elements, ignore the horror of the war, 44 years after, igbo is yet to orient her face forward still clarmouring for war! when do igbo enjoy forward looking movement?

Nobody mentioned Lagos in particular but Yoruba Land. Besides, there had been protests beyond Igboland and even beyond Nigeria and no one is claiming those Lands. It seems the only thing you've got is Lagos.

So far, Kumuyi came to Aba after the so-called statement and was welcomed by unimaginable crowd and congregation and was never stoned.

No Yoruba church has been threatened let alone burnt in the entire Southeast.

The IPOB has never kill any Nigerian or purposefully vandalize goods/properties in the course of their agitation rather Nigerian security forces have murdered defenseless men and women of Igbo extraction to provoke them into violence.

There are no group in the world that has embarked on the protests of these magnitude that are more civilized than IPOB when accosted by hate-filled Security Forces who are inclined to shot to death anywhere in the world

Igbos are the most civilized group in the world that respect the sanctity of life and never vandalize properties at will.

Stop quoting my comment with your stupid sense of hatred against anything Ndigbo represents.

You should be ashamed of commenting on issues that got to do with the Igbos as I have never on this forum bordered about anything to antagonize the north or the west for whatever reasons.

Nigerian evil politics of tribalism n greed pushed unnecessary number of Igbos into trade.

Yorubas unhealthy need for control made government close other seaports besides Lagos and so since Igbos had been 'forced' into trade, they had to emigrate to Lagos because of its seaport.

Thank you OPC.
We will never forget this kindness n understanding.

OPC has been factionalised. This statement was made by gani adams' faction and we all know that gani adam is loyal to GEJ and the new cabal willing to make Nigeria ungovernable for PMB.

The real OPC loyal to the yoruba course has spoken and it means ibos should stay away from yoruba land with their silly biafra protests. Go against it and face the consequence.

This is a show of shame at its worst naiveté. You should have joined the Biafrans in protest to leave Nigeria not south. One wonders if you do have geographical acumen since you hardly understood that Biafra, imaginary or real, is deep rooted in southern Nigeria. Nigeria is a joker for producing half-backed school leavers. No wonder certain individuals do not want anything to do with Nigeria any longer.

Two words : Greed and Covetousness. They cannot help it. Even during the civil war, when fighting was raging in Nsukka, Bonny, and Ogoja, Ojukwu, the land grabbing megolmaniac, decided to invadedthe midwest, marched into Ore, enroute to Lagos and Ibadan before he was stopped in his tracks.
Albeit i am not a Yoruba, but i lnow that their planned biafra protest in the west is DOA

Bullshyt. Your importers are free to direct their consignments to the other SS ports so that excuse doesn't hold water. But then again maybe it's our lovely beaches. cheesy

On a more serious note, even if you all were to start patronizing the other ports, sooner than later you will begin claiming you 'developed' the place, and that it is a no-man's land and having problems with your hosts. Face it -- you are experts at courting trouble with your hosts wherever you are.

Whatever popularity Lagos sea port has today is connected to the slave trade era because that was their main route.

What do you mean by FORCED into trade?
Are igbos the only traders in Nigeria?
Do you even know what you're saying?

Ibaka seaport is on the way...

Per the bolded, Ndiigbo do have any bit of obsession with Lagos. The fact remains Lagos was developed with collective capital generated by the entire population of Nigeria and as such Lagos is a domain of all Nigerians. No Yoruba chap ever became the minister of Lagos yet few ninnies on NL are arrogating everything about Lagos to Yoruba. This nonsensical arrogation of unfounded ownership of Lagos to Yoruba is another reason agitation for Biafra is aptly necessary.

Christmas is here and the ibos are known to return to the SE from all nooks and crannies of Nigeria. I think now is the time to declare biafra or make it real by not moving back to other parts of Nigeria. This will make them to be seen as serious. But alas! they are going to move back to the same country and regions they claim marginalises them, which means they don't really believe in their land.

When is the protest slated for sef? Before xmas or at the turn of the new year?

Dude
Nnamdi Kanu is guilty of treasonable felony and he would be punished accordingly.
You really need to stop playing the victim and innocent card. You lot werent peaceful in your chaotic protest. We know what the biafran terrorists did at onitsha. You burnt a Central Mosque, set six of Dangotes supply trucks ablaze, harmed youth corpers, waylaid motorists/travellers at the onistha bridge head, lit burn fires, pelted security agents with stones, looted shops etc etc
