Secretary General of the Supreme Council of Elders of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Brig. Gen.Jeo Achuzia, yesterday charged the Federal Government of Nigeria to respect the right of Biafrans to self determination. The Biafran Elders in an emergency meeting in Asaba, Capital of Delta State said that the recent demonstrations in the South-East and parts of South-South were agitations for the right to “call ourselves Biafrans within the Nigerian equation. They, however, appealed to the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and the Movement for the Actualisation of a Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB) to ceasefire. The council implored all pro-Biafra groups to stop any form of demonstration, and attend an urgent meeting on a date that would be communicated later. Achuzia, in a statement, said the emergency was held in the light of the present stand down of IPOB youths and the Nigerian government on the arrest of the Director of Radio Biafra, Mr. Nnamdi Kanu, and other pro-Biafran activists, as well as pending court cases. He said: “We want to also use this opportunity to appreciate all IPOB youths for your usual obedience to the instructions of Supreme Council of Elders of Indigenous People of Biafra. while advising the Federal Government of Nigeria to respect the right of the indigenous people of Biafra to self determination, and that our agitation is for the right to call ourselves Biafrans within the Nigerian equation. “The customary government of the indigenous people of Biafra in a de facto government as a legally instituted body, represented by Billie Human Rights initiatives in suit number FHC/OW/CS/192/2013 between Indigenous People of Biafra and the Federal Government of Nigeria.” http://www.blueprint.ng/2015/12/10/ipob-elders-want-fg-to-respect-rights-of-biafra/
