Housewife dies after labour

Adebimpe Afunku, Abeokuta

• Baby boy dumped in refuse bin

A baby boy, who was born by a middle-aged housewife last Sunday after a protracted labour was later dumped in the garbage bin adjacent to his mum’s house.

The housewife whose name was simply given as Abeke died a few minutes after she was delivered the child.

The incident happened at a house opposite Macgregor compound in Ago-Ika area of Abeokuta.

The baby was found in the dust bin by a sympathiser who had just visited at the home of the deceased.

The attention of the sympathizer was drawn to the dust bin as a result of distress cry of the baby boy from the rubbish and the woman raised alarm.

The boy was at that point in pain from the many termites which were apparently trying to feast on the blood around his body.

Investigation by Daily Champion revealed that the dead woman was allegedly given some concoctions by her friends with whom she was squatting in the house.

When our correspondent visited the scene a few hours later many questions being asked by sympathizers were: How did the baby get to the dust bin since his mother had died immediately after he was born? Did the woman die after dumping the boy?

These and other questions were the subject of discussion as symphatizers milled round the house on the fateful day.

The Ogun State Police Command spokesman, Mr. Muyiwa Adejobi, when contacted on telephone yesterday, said he was yet to be informed about the incident.

He said he was yet to go through his mail when our correspondent called him.
