Boko Haram terrorists have opened fire on motorists queueing for fuel at a Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation filling station in the outskirts of Maiduguri, Borno state capital.
Thought detail is still scanty as the attack just took place now, Daily Trust can report that the assailants arrived the filling station on Molai road in vehicles.
Details later...

Are these the soft targets that Lai Mohammed was refering to??

At least 14 people were killed and several others injured by Boko Haram gunmen in a Christmas Day attack on a village in northeastern Nigeria, vigilantes said Saturday.
Attacking astride bicycles, the jihadists invaded Kimba village in flashpoint Borno state around 10:00 pm on Friday, opening fire on residents and torching their homes.

“Not a single house was spared in the arson,” another vigilante, Musa Suleiman, said after visiting the razed village.
Hundreds of Kimba residents fled to Biu nearby, where they were put up in a refugee camp already brimming with people running from Boko Haram.
The attack comes just days before Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari’s self-imposed deadline to stamp out the group expires on December 31 and in the same week he said that Nigeria has “technically” defeated the jihadists.
Buhari took office in May vowing to end the six-year insurgency that has killed over 17,000 people and spooked much-needed investors in Africa’s largest economy and foremost oil producer.
Nigerian troops have won back territory from Boko Haram, but in response the jihadists have increasingly resorted to suicide bombers — many of them young children — to wage war for an independent Islamic state.
The militants have damaged what little infrastructure existed in the country’s underdeveloped north at a time when the government is facing a cash crunch as a result of the free-falling oil price.
According to the Global Terrorism Index, a report released by the New York-based Institute for Economics and Peace, it “has become the most deadly terrorist group in the world”.
The UN children’s agency said this week that over one million Nigerian schoolchildren have been kept out of school because of the conflict, warning that the lack of education will fuel radicalisation in and around Nigeria.
The jihadists have allied themselves with the Islamic State group, but experts doubt the scale and scope of the collaboration.
Still, there are growing fears that a once localised hardline Muslim movement is morphing into a regional jihadist threat as Boko Haram launches attacks on Nigeria’s neighbours Chad, Cameroon and Niger.

“They have so degraded the capacity of Boko Haram that the terrorists can no longer hold on to any territory just as they can no longer carry out any spectacular attack.”

Mohammed, however, said that though there were still cases of suicide bombings, it was pertinent to note that such was the nature if insurgency globally.

“Unlike a war between two armies, an insurgency never ends with arms victory

Even in countries like Colombia where insurgency was supposed to have ended decades ago, attacks like this still happen.”

He said that the insurgents had adopted a new style of attacking soft targets like motor parks, schools, entertainment centres, religious centres, killing innocent people mostly women and children.

He, therefore, urged Nigerians to support the military in the fight against terrorism in the country, saying that the military had availed itself creditably

I'm still trying to understand the accusation against Lai. Obviously he clearly qualified his statement with the above bolded words.

That is utter rubbish! Do a proper research on all the attacks that have been taking place since the time of Jonathan; its the same thing; na ignorance dey worry Nigerians!!

All the Major attacks done by Boko Haram and criticised by the then opposition APC has always been on Lai Mohammed's alleged soft targets!!

You sef use your brain; you go to the market to buy fish, only for a Military convoy, in broad day light, to raid the market, the only problem is that the Military convoy is Boko haram! That is what Lai Mohammed is calling a soft target; brazen broad day light attacks in public places, suicide bomb blasts in public places and the bagger lizard is saying new tactics!!

The 2013 Twin bomb blasts that took place at Terminus market road, by Railway line, right opposite Jos University teaching Hospital, and in front of Mr Biggs on ahmadu bello way was that new?? The Viewing Centre in Town - I believe it was anguwan Rogo - that was bombed at 9pm during a European League match, was that new!!??

What of the bauchi road bombings, not too far from Univeristy of Jos, that took place less than 6weeks after Buhari took over; was that new too??

Even the much famed chibok girls abduction, was it not achieved after an attack on a school?? Stop talking out of sentiments or a pathological obsession for a political structure/party of Career politicians who have nothing good to offer for now & are stalling for time!!

What of the last abduction of 107 kids by Boko Haram that they have kept outside the radar of the media; and have used the Dasukigate scandal to armtwist the media to be silent about it and not do follow-up stories on their rescue and the families of the abductees?? Is that new too, or is it because they haven't come for your family yet, that's why you are cool with crap that Lai Mohammed is spewing ba??

How much ground did Jonathan lose as at when he handed over? Wasn't it widely reported in the media that Buhari lost much ground within his first 3 months in office; a report that forced his hand to change service chiefs not too long after, when attacks by Boko Haram became more brazen!

Much of the most embarrassing attacks of Boko haram in the time of Jonathan's administration took place under the cover of dark; but Buhari's tenure na Korokoro daytime!

In case you don't know, Lai Mohammed is both Minister of Information and APC PRO, so he is naturally gifted in talking from both sides of his mouth!!

I personally know folks and friends whose cousins/relatives where among the chibok girls, I know folks who have lost families and relatives to Boko Haram attacks; who make calls everyday to find out what's going on in the villages, from maiduguri to fica, so don't just sit down there and cross leg on top of promo data and talk unguardedly about stuff you have no knowledge about!!

Escuse me? Where were you when Jonathan went dancing 24hrs after a Boko Haram bomblast? Where were you when Jonathan told us Boko Haram have infiltrated his government but refused to lift a single finger to bring them to justice? Where were you when it took a bold young lady to direct the useless President to move an inch before he could be brave enough to address the chibok's issue? Where were you when it took Jonathan six weeks before election before he seriously take the issue of Boko Haram seriously all because of his hatred for the northerners.

During Jonathan's administration Boko Haram were taking over territories. We now know why. Jonathan and his co thieves were looting billion of dollars that were budgeted to fight the scourge.

Jonathan will not have peace in this life or after life.

I didn't want to reply this comment because in my own opinion; it appeared to be off-topic or off the subject matter.

Also, the core of your response seemed centred around what appears to be an Anti-Jonathan passion running in your bones!!

Lucky for us humans, the world is not dictated by what runs through your bones, but let me breakdown your comment into bits and pieces!

The Impression you are trying to sell to Nairalanders is that Jonathan hated Northerners; which is totally false!

The irony of your comment is that Jonathan's kinsmen are of the opinion that he loved the North and hated his own brothers, and for that, many voted against him from his state.

When General Gabriel Owoye Azazi was NSA, there was never a time when major air-strikes where launched against key BokoHaram installations; but when MEND was agitating in the South-south, air-strikes where launched on the most flimsy of attacks by mend - which can never be compared to BokoHaram because MEND never targeted Civilians arbitrarily like BokoHaram!!

It was Dasuki that took advantage of the Air-force, to really deal with Boko Haram from the air; infact both Airforce, Navy even police and Para-military where encouraged to raise Anti-terror squads as opposed to just the army, being the only force with an Anti-terror response squad!!

Also, a look at the Number of Federal Universities built by Jonathan, out of 9, universities, 6 where in the North, only one in the south-south, one in the south-west and one in the south-east!! This is minus the creation of the almajiri schools, for those who live a nomadic life that doesn't really allow for conventional education school system!!

All of those cited instances of "where were you" raised in your comment, in my Opinion are nothing but cheap propaganda tricks, borrowed from the APC campaign arsenal and meant to distract from the debate of this thread! That's cheap arm-chair politics that chooses to address people instead of issues!!

But if I wanted to tow your line of argument, I might as well say that the APC and Buhari hate Northerners too! Why??

From time immemorial, APC earned itself the Moniker of a "Boko Haram Party" for many reasons, two of which are as follows:-

1.) The ACN, which is a major party within the APC arrangement had always been at the forefront of campaigning for amnesty for Boko Haram!! They were openly against the American government listing BokoHaram as a Terrorist group initially - a move that would have mandated the USA to tracke and freeze all financial assets of BokoHaram within america's Macro-economic Jursidiction - and insisted that Jonathan Negotiate with BokoHaram or else he will be regarded as a dictator!!

2.) The APC/Femi-Falana/El Rufai/Buhari had always insisted that the Military should be removed from the streets in the North, up to even Maiduguri; time and time again countless television surveys done by AIT, NTA etc. show that nobody there wants the miltary to go; Why?? The police - including MOPOL - had never been adequate in providing security in the face of ethnic clashes, how much more in the face of BokoHaram attacks!

So if someone is asking the military, that is providing security for everyone to leave the streets; can we say such person loves Northerners??

The only time, in the History of the BokoHaram crisis that Northerners themselves ever asked for removal of the military from the streets was during the second wave of BokoHaram attacks; BokoHaram started guerilla style war-faring proper and changed their Uniform from pure green to Nigerian Army camouflage! So when Boko Haram attacks, most especially in the rural areas, they all believed it was the Nigerian army!

Boko Haram was using this system to boost their campaign, that the army was dominated by Christians and used it to brainwash ignorant youths for recruitment purposes; this is one of the reasons why Almajiri school system had to be created, also the Nigerian Military changed their Operational Uniform in the North to desert Camouflage, and all Soldiers where required to use camouflage vest - with their armed force crested on it - while on Operation or face court martial!!

Also each armed - force was encouraged to design Camouflage for their own armed force.

In any case, as I am talking to you now; 107 children have been abducted by the same Boko Haram, where is Buhari and where are you? And why isn't the media focusing on that issue??

Instead, media houses like vanguard, reported a story, where attorney general of the Federation was quoted saying that Chibok girls where not found by Jonathan because "Dasuki money" wasn't used to buy arms!!

Rubbish!!

I have said this time and time again, that the #Dasukigate issue - vis - a vis the social media bill - has been used to bully the media against reporting widely, like they did - during the Jonathan administration - the errors of the Buhari administration!!

What if I told you, as at now, that Senior Academic Staff of Nigerian Universities are currently on strike, what will you say??

But that information is not reported anywhere in the media, even though SSANU has released press statement, why??

I have lived in the North, still have my apartment there, I go there to chill; when the first Jos bombing took place, I was supposed to be on my way to terminus market!! For the record, the average man on the street in the North sees nothing like hatred in/from Jonathan!! What is mostly doubted are the calibre of people he placed close to him and that's all!!

As for the Dasuki matter, I don't want to go deep into specific details of it because it is senseless/political looking at it on the inside and senseless looking at it from the outside!!

Its like probing the Minister of Agriculture for abusing money meant paid for Oil licensing fees simply because the Oil well is on the ground!!

I have asked these question on Nairaland but no sensible answer has been issued and I will ask you again to show how off track the Dasuki matter is

1.) Is it the Chief of Defence Staff via the Ministry of Defence that is responsible for buying and Budgeting arms for the military or the Office of National Security Adviser??

The answer is Ministry of Defence, anywhere you ask!! NSA will only be involved if getting such arms require the use of underhand/covert tactics outside due process that must be undertaken by government!!

Nigeria was practically under arms embargo, no thanks to our darling APC chieftains who went abroad and insisted that attacking BokoHaram amounted to genocide!! Much of the arms that Goodluck used to prosecute the war against BokoHarm was smuggled in!!

Everyone who is conversant with the affairs of this country; does not need to be reminded that for the greater part of the Jonathan administration, arms for the Nigerian military were purchased through unofficial channels - a situation that was created by the current ruling party when they were still in the opposition, when the first wave of attacks against boko haram were initiated & they succeeded with help of ignorant Nigerians in politicising the Boko haram war. News archives are filled with stories of statements made by Chieftains both of Northern and southern descent in the opposition accusing the Jonathan administration of genocide & ethnic bias against Northerners in different quarters! The result of which, most developed nations refused to sell arms, under various legal codes to what was believed to be a government using military might to oppress its citizens or a government accused to be training snipers to shutup opposition because it didn't want to hand over power. All of which were just lies, at least buhari's swearing in leaves no one in doubt!!

Question, is it possible to buy arms - or anything for that matter - on the black market through due process??

Does it even make sense for someone to legally do an illegal thing - because technically, buying arms on the black market is illegal, abi??

First, consider the damage that such an open probe will cost the Nigerian government in terms of capital within the intelligence community - locally and internationally!! I said open probe because there's nothing that says buhari shouldn't know what happened during the arms purchase, but discretion should have been the watch word!! But because they want to be seen to be working & also the person who was at the helm of affairs is an arch-nemesis - at least we all know dasuki was sent by Babangida to kick buhari out of Dodan barracks in 1984 - you create a press buffet with anti-corruption being the theme!!

The same government is travelling everywhere looking for help to handle terrorism, its the same government that doesn't know when/how to talk and when to keep quiet!!

As for Jonathan having peace....................like I said earlier, this world - or the one which is to come - is not dicated by what runs through your bones!!

Enough said................
